Great loop going to the oasis first then looping around to the east then back to the parking area (about 3 miles). We took off at 1 pm so it was hot 93 degrees- but still a nice walk!

If you starting to Hike like me, this hike is good and easy, it takes me an hour back and forward, I feel amazing after I finish, It has become my place to go , every afternoon I do the smallest one I think is 4 miles or 2? lol ( I should of take a picture ) because I'm barely starting to hike again, later I want to take the other two trails they have

Beautiful hike today! Don't let the heat stop you! Get outside early and just make start on an adventure! You'll be so happy!

Pack plenty of water!! Wear sunscreen. Wear hat and sunglasses. Pack some snacks! There are two parking lots - free! No paid admission. You have to drive quite a bit from the freeway through the residential area to get here. Not a windy road. There's a picnic table if you walk about 5 minutes into the cove oasis trail. I would recommend starting the trail early in the morning or closer to sunset to avoid the scorching sun. If you want to complete the entire loop... give yourself plenty of time. Trail has zero shade! Beautiful and scenic trail. I would definitely come back here again!!

Beautiful desert hike. Mostly flat with a few rolling hills. Good way to start the day

It was my first time going to this hike. It was my first time going, but I really enjoyed how peaceful it was.

The cardio here is real and the sun will come for you, our vacation rental was located in the cove we made it a early hike but still got a nice tan. Don't forget water and be ready to sweat massively. Awesome way to start the day we had fun and will be back. Zen level "3000"

It's a beautiful area. I used to live a stones throw away. I made sure to come back, while I visited. I was by myself for some much needed peace and tranquillity, which there is an abundance of. You will cross paths with dog walkers, and hikers alike. Watch where you step, plenty of ant hills. The farther in you hike, the least likely you are to run into anyone. On this particular day, I ran into more butterflies and caterpillars than anybody. There is beautiful rock formations and an abundance of flowers. Make sure to wear sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, bring water... take your allergy medication, you will need it.

This was our first hike in La Quinta, and what a hike it was. The parking was a breeze, even though our navigation kept sending us in circles in the residential area of the cove. Just keep traveling up Eisenhower until it ends, and you cannot miss the hiking staging area. There were several parking spots available in the slightly under average sized parking lot, along with several spots on the street. The crowd was diverse and friendly. There were also a lot of dogs, so watch out for landmines. We hiked a staggering two miles into the hills toward Lake Cahuilla. After speaking with a mountain man, we discovered it was at least an additional two or three miles away. We did make it to an area that overlooked the beautiful PGA West golf course. The views of the mountains and city were awesome. The trail is marked pretty well, so we did not need a compass. During our arduous journey, we saw several roadrunners, birds, and desert plant life. A large fly did its best to harass me for several hundred feet, and I even took a shower before the hike. After two miles in and two miles out, my classic K-Swiss were getting pretty tired, so we headed back to the car. We look forward to going back and experiencing additional trails, and we will make it to the lake!

Honestly such a cool beautiful spot. 11/10 recommend. Sooo beautiful and dessert air makes it 10x better! It was sprinkling a bit when we went but that didn't seem to stop nobody. A bit rocky in some places but for the most part a pretty easy trail. It's such a big open area full 360 view. It splits up into different trails. Kept up pretty well. Would deff like to come back and check out another

Where to? My girls debating what hiking trail to take for the morning.

We made this an early morning family hike, try to beat the heat. The route we took was a little over 7.5 miles, it was a good workout, but not too brutal. Plenty of rolling hills and cool foliage. The parking was a breeze, GPS got us right here, you can't miss the parking lots and staging area. At the trailhead there is a sign which shows you the various trail options. Once you start, the trail is marked pretty well. During our hike, we saw several roadrunners, birds, and desert plant life. A large black fly will likely bother you, be careful it does bite, HARD. This was a good family adventure.

I was in need of a quick getaway and jumped at the opportunity to wake up early Sunday morning to explore the La Quinta Cove with my best friend and my son. We started in around 730A for a little under two hours. Spring has got to be one of the best times of the year to be here. I couldn't fathom the thought of hiking in the desert during the Summer months which is usually when we visit the area. The birds were chirping and so many of them :) If you know me, you know I love birds :) so this made me very happy. There were so many different types. The skies were blue and the sun was shining but it wasn't unbearably hot. We walked the upper trail into entering near the bear - plenty of flowers were in bloom, some with an abundance of bees pollinating them. We didn't see any snakes, scorpions or insects which are some of the things that I tend to consider when thinking about desert hiking. We went out a little less than 2.5 miles making the total trip less than 5 but it was a lovely time. The landscape isn't the most exciting or gorgeous thing you've ever seen but it's certainly great terrain for a morning jog or evening stroll. I feel it's a great trail/hike for all athletic abilities, and not strenuous by any means. If you're staying in the La Quinta area or you're a local, this is a perfect spot to escape to for a little leisure stroll or to walk the dog. There are plenty of waste baskets and bags to pick up after your pets and drinking fountains to stay hydrated if you've ventured out without adequate fluids. I'd surely recommend it (during the non blazing hot seasons).

I actually started at the Cove trail around the way from here, but it was much too crowded. This one was an unexpected find while driving and quite empty. There's several access points all along Avenida Motezuma, and parking in the neighborhood is plentiful. If you want to hit the beaten path, someone made stairs on both sides of the creek so you don't have to climb the steep gradient. Overall, a very beautiful area. I look forward to returning. Pros: - super clean - wide paths - dog-friendly (even a doodie bag station and pet-friendly water fountain) - all levels of expertise - lots of parking Cons: - didn't see restrooms

Honestly never heard of this place until we were looking for something to do. It's just a couple miles from the main strip of 111. But tucked behind some of the beautiful gated communities, you end up here. We didn't know what to expect or how it would be. Thought it would be some park of sorts. Well... It is tucked with the mountains in the background which makes for a beautiful view. Hiking is not far from it and there's loads of beautiful homes in gated communities. We didn't know that camping was also offered here. It's a little drive up to the main gate which there's a fee for entering. The person working the station was gracious enough to let us in as we just wanted to check it out. First off, it's a man made lake. You enter the park area with parking both to the left and right side. There's plenty of spots in both of the parking lot. We went to the right which from the looks of the park, it is well maintained. There's a small little playground on one end, a pool area in the middle and a pickleball court and a basketball court to the other end. That's would be the main park area. If you continue to drive down toward the front, there's campsites. Areas with a grill, a spot for your car as well as water and electricity. Depending on what you need, the fee will be added. You could just camp as if without the electricity. Also the sites are pretty much next to each other. We drove to the other side where there's more campsite which this one is more primitive style. Bring everything yourself. The other side was more of a dirt lot. Not sure what it would be utilize for. Lake area does look man made and well maintained. Looking down it looked as it was like an amphitheater with the steeps leading down. We did find out that you can fish but no swimming or boating allowed. There's a fee if you wanted to fish. Basically a fee for everything. Overall, it's a decent park tucked away. Camping available but not the roughing kind. Small park area but does have a pool. It was pretty quiet when we arrived as it was hot. Would we pay to come in after we've seen this place, probably not. But at least we know what to expect incase we do happen to be back again.

We hoped to possibly see some bighorn sheep but they have put up a fence so they can't get to the lake now.

It's just not easy to access and there are no trails going up this mountain. It's a rock scramble that you'll have to navigate yourself. This past weekend, I ended up going up Martinez Mountain and Sheep mountain. We started at the Cactus Spring Trail and hiked to Horsethief Creek. We were able to filter a good amount of water at the creek with a decent water source and from there hiked to Cactus Spring (about 5 miles from the start of the trailhead). Martinez Mountain was about 8 mile round trip back to Cactus Spring. It was quite a feat to traverse and required some class 3 moves to get up to the summit. Quite a thrilling adventure. Coming down the backside of the gully was not for the faint of heart; I definitely got some injuries I wish I didn't get...if I do this mountain again, it would probably be an out and back, although you can hit Sheep the same day (I ended up doing Sheep the next day). All in all; it's quite a challenge and you probably won't see a soul up here, but it's worth it for the adventurous-minded!

We started about 8 am, and the hike lasted almost 12 hours. All of us are in great shape but this turned out to be a brutal day hike. Starting point is located up the 74. Make a left on the dirt road right after the sugarloaf cafe. Then after the cactus spring trailhead sign, drive down and to the left to get the closest start. Exact location: Latitude: 33.5767109413 Longitude : -116.4422111493 The elevation was 3922 ft The hike starts off descending and you go cross a small stream about a half mile in. At 1.7 miles in and 3400 ft, we crossed Horse Thief Creek, which surprisingly had a good amount of water flowing. No water after that. After 1 mile of good grade it leveled out and we followed a wide wash, making out way to the mountain. We met another hiker who knew the area well and told us where the trail we needed connected to the wash. At 4.97 miles from our start, we took the trail to the right and headed to the saddle just west of Martinez Mountain. It could easily be missed without keeping an eye out. 1.35 miles after leaving the wash, we made it to the saddle and stopped for lunch. We could see Jacinto, Santa Rosa Mountain, and the south side of the Martinez. From here, there is NO TRAIL to the top. Making out way up the ridge was a scramble. It was a lot of work, and there are large boulders and overgrown bushes. Its steep and you will need to be in great shape. At 7.64 miles from the start, and 6543 ft up, we summited! The summit is a group of large boulders and you will need to be able to lift your own bodyweight to get up. We found the summit sign in ammo box, which only had about 100 signatures in the last ten years. On our way down we decided to go a more direct way down, which was very steep and slow moving. Our knees really took a beating jumping down rock to rock. We then got back on the trail in the wash and headed back to the start. In total, we hike 14.8 miles. We had a great time and want to explore this area more!

BEST WEDDING VENUE EVER!…read more My husband and I dreamed of a wedding where everyone could stay together onsite, immersed in nature, with no worries about driving after a night of fun, and Camp Osito Rancho made that dream a reality. Our families stayed in the health center, lodge, and electrified cabins, while our friends embraced the adventure of summer cabins and tents. The venue offers so many stunning spaces, from the spacious dining hall for meals to the stage/amphitheater with fire pits--perfect for s'mores and late-night stories. We exchanged vows at the top of a hill near the outdoor pavilion, with a gorgeous backdrop of pine trees and a view of Big Bear Lake in the distance. We were able to offer our guests camp activities like archery and a pool day, as well as had room to setup other activities like craft tables and lawn games. The biggest perk was the complete freedom to choose our own vendors, allowing us to create a truly personalized experience (huge shoutout to Scratch Kitchen for catering--our guests still rave about the food). We spent a year making signs, collecting décor, buying solar lights, and crafting to transform this Girl Scout camp into a full-blown wedding festival. If you're up for planning the details, this venue is the ultimate blank canvas. Last but not least, the Camp Osito Rancho team is absolutely amazing. A huge thanks to Angel for her help throughout the year, Ryan for his help throughout the weekend, and to Gerardo for the tour that sold us from the start.
