My husband and I stayed at the La Quinta for 4 nights, and this was by far the worst hotel experience we've ever had. From the moment we checked in, it was problem after problem. First Room (Night 1): We walked in and immediately realized the room had not been cleaned at all. The sheets were clearly used, the side table had sticky drink rings, the floors were dirty, and the toilet had dried urine on it. Every surface was filthy. To make matters worse, the main overhead light didn't even work. When we went to the front desk to ask for the room to be cleaned, there was a cockroach crawling across the counter. That should've been our sign, but we had already paid and my husband had a long work week ahead. We left the hotel for over 3 hours so they could clean the room. When we came back--absolutely nothing had been touched. I had already bought cleaning products from the store because the bathtub looked disgusting and the bathroom needed to be wiped down just to be usable. We notified the front desk again, and they said they'd bring new sheets and have someone clean the room. A staff member eventually showed up with sheets, saw me actively cleaning the bathroom myself, and still didn't offer to help clean anything else. She didn't touch the side tables or any of the other dirty surfaces. We asked for batteries for the remote, a working light bulb, and for the table to be cleaned. Later, a man came with batteries and a bulb that didn't even fit the light fixture, then left without cleaning anything. During all of this, my husband was working a 14-hour shift. If my in-laws weren't with me, I would have been terrified to stay in this hotel alone. Room Change: When my husband finally got off work at 10 p.m., he saw everything and went to the front desk himself. The man at the desk offered to move us to a "bigger" room and said, "Don't worry, I won't charge you more," as if that was some kind of favor. We moved rooms at around 10:30 p.m. -- when my husband had to wake up early for ANOTHER long shift -- only to find that the second room was also dirty. The sheets looked clean, but who knows. The toilet in this room also smelled strongly of urine. When I lifted the lid, there was pee all under it and on the back of the seat... again. I ended up cleaning the toilet, shower, and floors myself just to feel somewhat comfortable. Safety Concerns: The next morning, I woke up to the cleaning staff loudly talking and complaining about something -- right outside my door. They were basically yelling. As a woman alone who had made a complaint, this made me feel extremely unsafe. I left the hotel immediately and refused to come back until after 10 p.m. so I wouldn't have to run into them. Filing a Complaint: We tried calling to file a complaint and were told to call back the next day because the manager wasn't there. After the incident with housekeeping loudly complaining outside my door, we decided to wait until checkout to report everything. Final Verdict: This hotel is not being cleaned properly at ALL -- not just on a busy holiday weekend, but clearly for a very long time. La Quinta Inn by Wyndham in Abilene definitely disappointed. We reserved ahead of time to help us keep on track during our road trip and we thousand it would be a good place to stay for usually "La Quinta" and "Wyndham" Hotels maintain pretty good standards but we were wrong. We didn't leave to look for a different place because we had already paid and we were tired from the road trip. Either way we would only stay one night. I should have totally checked the yelp reviews before reserving because all the bad pictures I saw on the reviews are true. (Except the bed bugs Thank God I didn't see any) so here are a few highlights of my stay: As we arrived around 4pm Un-bagged trash, bags with trash and used loofahs on the sidewalk outside the the rooms. The hotel overall looks old and ran down. Once inside the room.. The carpet was extremely dirty with huge stains. The room smelled dirty.. a mix of cigarettes, sweat, possible alcohol, dust, dogs, cats, etc.. The sheets smelled like sweat and they were plain dirty. The water temperature in the shower was inconsistent. Yup, now as I write this I can't believe I stayed there. Yikes. read more

Holy cow! Where do I begin??? This place is a total freaking zoo! It attracts guests that are loud, rude, inconsiderate and have no couth whatsoever. The pool is open past 9PM and there's idiots in it making all kinds of noise. The rooms are in poor condition and don't have mini fridges or microwaves. My room wasn't very clean and there was long hair in the bathroom sink. I made a huge mistake booking here. It's absolutely the lousiest hotel I have ever stayed at. read more

Night clerk wasn't much better. No phone In room. "Sorry, we're out of them now". No tissues in room. "Sorry, but the truck hasn't come yet". Tables in the breakfast lounge sticky. This place is just filthy!! And to top it off there was a big roach walking into the breakfast area as we were leaving. The board of health would probably have a field day with this place. Having stayed in LaQuinta Inns before, we knew to expect basic accommodations, but we were always satisfied with our stays. However, this poor motel is suffering from neglect, which is unfortunate because it has the potential to be a really nice little motel. First, the positives: our beds were made up comfortably and they slept well. There is a nice pool and courtyard, but it was closed during our visit due to COVID. But that's where it stopped. Our room was so dirty - the tub was stained, there were stains on the carpets, and the tops of the headboards were dusty, so I knew they hadn't been wiped down in a while. At other hotels we stayed at on our trip, there were reminders that the room had been sanitized and the remote was in a plastic bag. None of that was present in our room. I had brought Lysol wipes, and I ended up wiping down every surface with them. Even still, the room was just so dirty that it was impossible to feel like you could relax in it. We aren't smokers, but we were told quite emphatically that there was no smoking in the rooms. That's fine - but there's no designated smoking area, so smokers stand outside their rooms to smoke then drop their cigarette butts in the ground outside their doors. So when we got to our room, the entry was littered with cigarette butts and the corridors smelled like smoke. I think I've been put off of LaQuinta Inns for a while. read more

I rarely stay at La Quinta properties, so I wasn't sure what to expect here in Abilene. Let's say that it could definitely have been cleaner. My first impression was that the outdoor corridors had a very strong odor of smoke. If turns out that there is an excessive amount of smoking outside the rooms at all hours. Walking around felt like I was in a casino. The room itself looked okay, until I noticed a lot of hair all over the tub and shower walls. It's like someone just brushed their hair all over the place and housekeeping didn't bother cleaning it up. At least the bed was comfortable. Oh. And the toilet tissue felt like straight-up sandpaper. I wouldn't stay here again. read more

The bedsheets had bloodstains on them and were wrinkled like someone had slept in the bed and housekeeping just went on ahead and made it, didn't bother to change the sheets. The water in the bathroom was luke warm at best, no hot showers. The front desk lady was very nice but this place was so gross we could not stay. Got a refund and left. WTF?! Mold in the bathroom, plugs that do not hold anything in, and a VERY rundown exterior! This was by far the worst place we have stayed. To make it worse it's been the most expensive as well. These people should be ashamed to be charging this price for such low quality space. We WILL NOT be back. And just for icing on this cake the room we were put in did not have AC. This place is Awful. At first, I thought, "Oh! This place might be nicer than I thought!" because the pool looked so clean. Well what meets the eye is deceiving. We had to switch to 4 DIFFERENT ROOMS. The first one had stained sheets, the second was fly infested, the third was infested with the smell of weed, and the final one which finally had clean sheets was ANT AND FLY INFESTED. The room was really dirty and crusty. The bathroom was just filthy and overall it was just disgusting. We ended up staying in the fly and ant infested room because the sheets were the cleanest, but we still had to use our own blankets because, in a hotel like this, you CAN'T trust looks. We also had to wipe down so much and it still wasn't clean. NEVER coming here AGAIN and I most definitely DO NOT recommend. read more

Bed broken on right side so noisy anytime either of us moved. Shower went cold within five minutes. Shower head needs replacing as it was spraying out of where it's screwed in. If I could give zero stars I would. Front desk lady is unhappy with her job and so she's here to make everyone else miserable. I arrived shortly before midnight, waited at the desk for several minutes as I could see her doing something and talking on the phone in the office. My sister made our reservations- I asked to check in, I've never had a problem doing so before including AT THIS location. We have a pretty unique last name, I always chalked it up to that. After 2 calls to corporate who advised my name was on the reservation front desk lady still wouldn't let me check in. I literally stood there as the phone rang (corporate calling her while I was on the line with them) and she ignored it. This place has always been budget friendly, I haven't stayed here in almost 2 yrs (since my siblings graduated from college) and I won't come back to stay here again. Currently working with corporate to get a refund. Update-- now they won't let my sister check in because my name is on the reservation. read more

The positive: suites are pretty large and the lady at the front desk was friendly. The negatives: the tub drained very slow which means you're standing in water ankle deep during your shower. The entire hotel, even "non smoking rooms" reeked of cigarette smell. Dust/dirt could be seen in the corners on top of the carpet along the wall. The whole hotel needs to be renovated. They still have popcorn ceilings, the bathroom tile, bath fixtures, carpet all needs to be replaced. I'm sure it was a nice hotel in the 80's. read more

I stayed there 1 night, and I will never stay there again! It was so nasty. It wasn't very clean to start off with. And there was (someone else's) hair everywhere--on towels, washcloths, back of the bathroom door, etc. The worst part was waking up to a bed bug crawling on me. Then I saw a huge roach on the wall. I emailed the general manger and he never even responded. I lodged a complaint with Wyndham. Wyndham told me that if the general manager didn't take care of it and make it right, they would. All I wanted was my money back that I spent on that disgusting room. They gave me 6,000 points. However, that won't even cover one night's stay. They absolutely wouldn't give my money back. They said that the general manager would have to do that. I was told (by someone else) the general manager at this hotel doesn't take care of anything like that. He clearly doesn't care. I will never stay here again. And, instead of spending hundreds of dollars this summer on our trips, I am considering using another hotel chain other than Wyndham. This review is for my grandparents. They are not great with technology, but that shouldn't prevent them from being able to share a review about a business. My grandparents were driving all the way from California to North Carolina to visit with me over the holidays. This was their 4th stop out of 6th in their journey. Upon arriving the service was decent. The lady checking them in was nice and helpful. The rooms on the other hand were a different story. The first room they were given was not the worst. BUT after driving 8 hours, you want to be able to kick your feet up and relax, watch some tv, take a shower... none of which they were able to do. The light in the bathroom didn't work. The toilet was not flushing correctly. The tv wasn't working. The floor was messy and the bed was not made. They just laid the comforter on top and called it a day. My grandpa went to the lobby to request a room change. They did do that. Which was nice. But the second room wasn't much better. The room they moved them to was ALL the way across the building up the stairs. Lights didn't work well, only two small towels were provided and again, beds weren't made. Grandpa gave up on trying to switch rooms. They just wanted to sleep early so they could get out of there ASAP. They were pet friendly. My grandparents were traveling with a small dog. So that's nice for others to know when traveling with dogs. My grandparents didn't think to take photos, but a review is a review. With or without photos. read more

Pretty decent hotel. The reason we chose it was because it is pet friendly. The staff was super friendly. The room was better than I thought it would be. Cleanliness could be better. There was some dust bunnies on the floor which tells me it hasn't been properly swept. So that's the reason for only 3 stars. Beds was comfortable for the most part. So overall it was a good hotel for the price. I would recommend it especially for a pet friendly hotel. read more

Once around building found room on second floor, there was a group of men on the first floor corridor leering at me. The most unsafe I felt was when I was in the room with the door locked and I noticed the phone line was cut. I have seen that movie and it didn't end well. Stayed here many times. This room was one of the dirtier rooms I have experienced . When we moved the sleeper sofa, you could tell that the staff had not vacuum under that sofa in awhile. Also the grout in the shower had noticeable mildew on the grout and several bugs in fixture . It was also very hard to pull up on the stem to turn on the shower. The staff was excellent and always very friendly . I would return here! read more

I had paid for a first floor double bed room. I recently had surgery. I got there in the evening after driving 12 hours exhausted, and was told they canceled my room because they thought i wasn't coming. This was around 11pm, and every la Quinta I've done this with has given me no problems. Then, I ended up on the second floor in a king bed room that looked like it hadn't been updated since the 90s at best. I thought it was a smoking room because of how bad it smelt, but there was a no smoking sign. Then, the sink smelt like stale beer. My girl and I stepped on exposed carpet staples (great way to get a disease). There was dirt everywhere. The chair had a knarly layer of dirt on it and must have been 20 years old. I used to love la Quinta, but I'm not planning on ever going back to one after this experience. If I hadn't already pre paid I would have just left. This was my first solo stay in a hotel or motel, and my first stay of any kind in over a year. I felt it was a good choice when reading the website's promise that due to COVID-19, extra measures were being taken to ensure rooms were clean and safe for check-in. I arrived, and after check-in I examined the room in order to notify the desk of any issues ASAP. I observed the bathroom, floors, sink area, bed and bedding. There was mold/residue in the tub drain, a toenail clipping on the carpet, what appeared to be a chewed blob of meat on the floor, a pile of dirt and dead bugs in the corner by the door. The mattress had hairs, crumbs and debris where I inspected for bedbugs. There were flies in the room, and debris on the floor. Where it had been mopped were streaks from dirty water. The room was damp, and there were stains where it was clear people had entered after the pool. I did not feel confident that other areas had been properly sanitized, since I would not be able to notice either way. I went to inquire about how the rooms were cleaned between guests. The man at the front listed some methods including vacuuming, so I informed him my room had not been vaccumed. He informed me that because I moved the pillows they could not relet the room, and I told him I was going out for a couple of hours and would be back. He informed me he would ensure the place was vacuumed by the time I returned. I observed that the breakfast tables were still grimy mid-afternoon. I did not observe this change. I later returned to change quickly before the reception. I entered the room and observed no changes. I returned to the desk and the same man appeared surprised when he saw me. He indicated he forgot about my room and took a vacuum cleaner himself, asking me to point out the items I noticed. I did not feel comfortable changing while he was doing that (I did not feel scared, I just prefer privacy), so I told him I would return later that night. I changed in a Starbucks bathroom. I returned to the hotel that night. I had already spoken with a friend who lived nearby, since I did not feel comfortable staying at the hotel. She offered to put me up; I told her I would check back with her after returning to my room. Upon return, it appeared a quick vacuum had been done, but all of the objects I pointed out had not been vacuumed up (the meaty blob remained, and there was dirt and debris in the corners). I decided I did not feel the room was safe, as I was not confident attention was being paid to cleanliness, and checked out, never having settled in. The woman at the front appeared stressed but polite. I left and did not stay in the room. I will not be returning to any La Quinta Inn, and would recommend against doing so. I understand that the pandemic also causes staffing issues, but rooms should not be given that have not been tended to properly, especially when it is advertised that the hotel is ensuring extra precautions are taken for every guest's safety. If there are staffing issues, only the rooms that can be paid proper attention should be opened. When informed, the issue was not addressed until I returned, after it had been forgotten. Once addressed, it was not addressed completely. Another couple checked out upon arrival. We were both informed our rooms could not be relet because we had moved bedding. The lack of cleanliness should have been the reason, and the hotel should not have relet the rooms in their initial state. I was very disappointed in the lack of import given to my concerns. I was fortunate to have a friend nearby, as I had contemplated driving 4 hours home after the event late at night. I do feel that claims about guest safety are being made and are not being followed. Someone who is unvaccinated and/or high risk should not have to navigate this situation. Even if there was not a pandemic with rising cases, I would not have stayed in the room. read more

Grease marks on the door, reeked of cigarette smoke, blood on the comforter, floor clearly had not been mopped in a long time and a plastic bag was wrapped around the smoke detector (presumably so someone could smoke in the room). But please make sure you wear your face mask in the lobby as required. We will NEVER stay here again and highly recommend avoiding. Wish I could give zero stars. read more

The manager "Julia" has absolutely NO people skills. she's honestly terrible at her job. she seems like she can not handle it when the pressure is put on and as manager she should take the initiative to go over & beyond. it's a shame. truly. the other men/women working there do EXCELLENT jobs! Well, let's just say if I had picked the hotel we would not have chosen this one. Husband booked La Quinta's for our 3 day move from CA to TX and all of them have been horrible - but this one is the worst. We booked this weeks ago as we were planning our trip. We called this morning to request a room on the bottom floor near the back (as we our traveling with cats) and a trailer. The lady at the desk said "oh yea no problem I noted that" Guess what? Didn't happen. I literally JUST checked in 10 mins ago and am already writing this review. NONE of the trashcans in the room have trashbags. The toilet seat had a pubic hair, the chair at the table is broken, and there is barely any hot water. Not only will we never stay in another La Quinta - I recommend definately not staying here at this particular location. There are many many other options nearby. read more

The hot water goes in and out so your shower is miserable. I have never been so disgusted in my entire life.
