It's neither overly crowded, nor overly loud, which is perfect for getting work done. Since it was the World Cup and many guests would be camping out for the entire match, table service has a per person minimum spend of $25. This is a really a non-issue because a cocktail is around $15, so two drinks, or one drink with some food, will easily hit this minimum. My wife and I shared crispy pork schnitzel ($17) and an order of their deviled eggs ($12). The deviled eggs were nicely seasoned and included a small salad shrimp on top for some variety. The pork schnitzel was perfectly fried and the potatoes in the included side-salad was well-cooked and not over dressed. I would recommend enjoying the schnitzel with some mustard. Both drinks that I ordered -- an Old Fashioned and a Boulvardier, were well prepared. No notes here. Service here was top notch. Throughout our stay, our server checked up on us multiple times and we never had to wait long to place another order for drinks. Tipping options on the receipt include pre-calculated 18%, 20%, and 22% options (on top of the 5% SF Mandate). Last but not least, the restaurant had clean bathrooms and a bunch of large TV screens on every wall. If you're looking to watch a sports match, Sam's Tavern is the place to go!

I haven't personally tried the meats, but the mole sauce on the chicken mole nachos is delicious, almost as good as the mole my parents make. The burger is so good and is my usual go-to, with sweet potato fries. I'd say we've tried a good majority of the menu at this point, and we've never been disappointed. I highly recommend it for a chill night with friends or to watch a game. There's also a small outdoor area that's great if you're looking for a quieter evening. Just awful. The sign outside reads, "Where locals meet tourists". How right they are, as local a-holes from the neighborhood rub shoulders with slack-jawed yokels from god-knows-where. Any bar that immediately cranks the jukebox to deafening volume as soon as a reggae song comes on is 'chock full o' douche'. Any bar where 90% of the guys are significantly shorter than their girlfriends is 'chock full o' douche'. Any bar in which there are overly competitive frat guys surrounding the bar, playing dice for shots and shouting at some pledge on the phone about how they're gonna totally make some guy do a 'ton of kegstands' when he gets back, just might be 'chock full o' douche'. read more

Too bad there is no option for zero stars. Enjoying a beer with a bartender screaming at the top of his lungs "You stupid liberal motherfucking idiot. You have no idea what is going on in your country" is not what I expected. My country is nine timezones away and this person visited at one time in 1970. That apparently gives him a perspective that tells him that my home is a war zone with events I know for a fact happened in other countries. Trying to talk him down was just met with "You're a F-ing idiot!". Unless you enjoy annoying, load and incoherent verbal abuse, stay far away from this shithole. read more

A COUPLE OF PATRONS WHO FREQUENT THIS BAR ASSAULTED ME. My first time attending this bar, and will definitely not be back. Was attacked by a man and woman here last Sunday - a couple poor sports who decided to take their anger out on me after not speaking two words to them the whole day. The bar has a fraternity mentality and protect "their own" no matter who is right or wrong. Although the bartenders working that day both seemed very kind (and we had a great time up until this point), these people need to be held accountable for their actions. read more

A terrible terrible place in my opinion that I wouldn't suggest anyone go to. We felt it smelled like piss. We mentioned being Nats fans (they were beating the Giants, 10-1, go Nats!) and the guy asked if we were Redskins fans as if it was funny to insist on using the slur. Then he asked if we saw a woman was nominated to lead the Navy and said, "Yeah because that will keep us safe". No thank you, pigs. We left. He treated me disrespectfully and asked me something absolutely absurd. After he continued harassing me, I reacted by giving him a small slap across the face. Instead of taking what had happened seriously or making sure I was okay, Jason and Jesse decided to kick ME out of the bar and ban me, while the man who sexually harassed me was allowed to stay. What made the situation even more disturbing was the way they treated me afterward. They laughed in my face while telling me I needed to leave, and as I was walking out with my girlfriends who witnessed what happened they were laughing and calling me crazy to the group of friends that harassed me I understand that a bar may have policies regarding physical altercations, but the complete lack of concern for the harassment that led up to the situation was appalling. I was the woman who had been sexually harassed, yet I was the one removed and banned while the man who made sexually explicit comments toward me got to remain inside and was seemingly treated like a friend. Based on my experience at night, I absolutely would not consider this a safe or supportive environment for women. Being sexually harassed is already upsetting enough. Being laughed at and punished afterward while the person who harassed you is allowed to stay made the entire experience significantly worse.
