This spot has become my MacLaren's Pub (HIMYM). It's my husband's and my go-to, don't-wanna-think-about-it-just-go destination whenever we want to get out of the house, or when we have people over and want a chill spot to hang out. It's also a cool destination for friends visiting from out of town. It's hard to pass up hanging out at the oldest bar in San Francisco, made partially from parts of a shipwreck! It has that classic, old-timey neighborhood bar feel without feeling overly touristy. The staff is always so nice and welcoming! The drinks are great (I think I've had most of the cocktail menu at this point), and the food is delicious. My favorite cocktail would have to be the Pimm's Cup, though it's hard to choose just one. Food-wise, we've had the burger (mine with a Beyond patty), the patty melt, chicken mole nachos, quesadilla, chili, clam chowder, and mac & cheese--can you tell we come here a lot? I haven't personally tried the meats, but the mole sauce on the chicken mole nachos is delicious, almost as good as the mole my parents make. The burger is so good and is my usual go-to, with sweet potato fries. I'd say we've tried a good majority of the menu at this point, and we've never been disappointed. I highly recommend it for a chill night with friends or to watch a game. There's also a small outdoor area that's great if you're looking for a quieter evening. We popped into Old Ship Saloon last night for a nightcap after my partner's birthday dinner at Kokkari, a short walk away. Not our first time here, and certainly won't be our last. Great little bar in the FiDi, open late, and serves food late at night which is a huge plus. Even after a celebratory dinner, we couldn't resist getting the quesadilla here again - this place makes one of the best quesadillas I've had. Get it with guacamole, which they fold into the quesadilla. The drinks are good, and reasonably priced, especially for SF. Good selection of beers. When you walk in, you'll feel like you're on the deck of a ship - or like you've had a few too many - because the floor is slanted. Fun place, and draws in the local crowd. See you soon, Old Ship. As we were touring the wharf in San Francisco, we stumbled into this really cool bar, when I say stumbled I don't mean literally. But after talking with the bartender Todd, he told me that this was the oldest bar in San Francisco. They even had some of the old signage, and of course, the old Ship Saloon established date as well. I did have a bullet on the rocks while I was there and sat at the old bar. Came here after a night at the exploratorium since we were all hungry from not eating prior to drinking and exploring. A nice short walk from there, Old Ship Saloon is exactly what I expected, a no frills pub with pretty typical bar food. A simple system of open seating and ordering at the bar. I got the crispy chicken sandwich with fries, which I believe are beer battered, super tasty and fresh. Crispy chicken sando had good flavor, but I could only finish half, since we split a steak quesadilla for the table. Wouldn't go out of my way to dine here, but would likely frequent it if I lived or worked in the area. read more

Old ship is a solid go to if you're in the financial district looking to grab lunch! I went with a group of coworkers and we highly recommend sharing the chips and guac! I also had their reuben with seeded wheat instead of rye with fries. Their fries were also perfectly crispy with a great texture outside and a creamy middle. The reuben was a good portion but the corned beef was a little tough and dry. Our server was attentive and checked in a couple times which was nice. read more

The day after Valentine's Day. We should have stayed over a 2nd night but early on we decided to go back across the bay. On our way out of town we decided to drop in here to finish of the weekend. It was late so parking was easy. We sat at the bar with only 1 or 2 other people in the whole place. You might think you've already had 7 to many when yoi walk in because years ago during some renovations the floor shifted and is uneven. Mr. Bartender was nice and the drinks were great. I think we shared a quesadilla. I love it when places serve food late at night. The rest of the food menu looked great with several items I'm looking forward to trying. More places need to serve food late at night. We originally thought this was our first time here but soon realized we have been here before multiple times. Prolly other late night stays in SF from when we were here daily. Prior to oir leaving the the bar got busy and multiple tables were filled. The really late night crowd had arrived, in mass. Nice to see after greasy newsom pretty much single handedly devastated the restaurant/bar scene in SF and elsewhere with his illegal draconian policies for a flu like illness that we all now know was delibrate on so many levels. But that's a different story for another time. Great to see this place survived. Like I said we've been here before but have only recalled it once we are in. No more. I'm a California history buff and wanted to see the saloon that was built over the wooden ship that was the original saloon in 1851. The plaque out front was neat, but what was really impressive was the food. I ordered the Patty melt, it came on marble rye and a salad with blue cheese. My wife ordered the Reuben with sweet potato fries, both were EXCELLENT! The seasoning was right on, the salad was crisp. Came here for a late night bite after an event. Located near the Embarcadero. You can park at a parking lot around the corner and it's less than a 10 minute walk. You order food at the bar. Decent food items. I decided on the fish and chips. Service was fast and the food came within 10 minutes of ordering it. The fish was decent. It did become soggy even after a few dabs of malt vinegar. The fries were crispy. Ordered a lager on tap. It was decent. Atmosphere is intimate. The bar is centrally located while there are also tables around the outside. Plenty of TVs for your comfort. Overall good food spot. read more

We decided to meet at this spot for dinner ahead of an evening work function. I was running late so I asked the rest of the group to place an order for a breakfast burrito packaged to go for me just in case we ran out of time. The ambiance is accurate to the name as the dining experience felt very old-school and rustic. I want to say that it took a while for my burrito to come out as I had sat down and chatted for a bit with the group after my arrival before it got to the table. Yes I ordered a breakfast burrito for dinner, and I have no regrets about my decision. I will say that the burrito didn't come with any salsa and it would've been so much better with a sauce. Luckily, I happened to have brought my own special sauce with me which definitely added the missing component. Yeah this is a bar, the menu isn't going to have the greatest selection or be of the highest food quality. My bf and I ate dinner here this past Sunday and had a positive experience. The setting was clean and casual, with exposed brick walls, minimal decor, lots of wood, and several TV's for watching sports. Service was prompt and professional, and the wait time for our food was reasonable. The menu at the restaurant seemed to offer more options than what I saw online, so it was hard to choose what to get, but had to go with something different. The bowl of mac & cheese with added hot dog was the perfect comfort dish on this lovely evening, cheesy and creamy, with generous amounts of delicious grilled pieces of hot dog mixed in. The wedge burger salad was tasty as well, the fresh lettuce with juicy flavorful meat, a tad too much dressing (should have ordered it on the side), but all of the ingredients came together well. I just took over a building around the corner and this has become one of my go to spots. First time I got the hamburger wedge salad and buffalo wings. It was a pretty large portion. The second time I got the regular burger with bacon and fries. Today I just got an order of grilled broccolini and a hamburger patty. This place is just around the corner from my house so I had lunch here yesterday with a friend. Unfortunately got food poisoning. It's likely the fish tacos. While they were small, I couldn't even finish the third taco and got a horrible stomachache. Ended up coming home and emptied my stomach completely right after. I do intermittent fasting so this is the only thing I ate yesterday. I have had a stomach ache for the last 24 hours. I called the restaurant immediately after and left them a message to let them know what happened. I haven't heard back. I wanted to make sure they check the fish tacos and not serve it to others and get the same infliction. If you are looking for a place to eat or grab a drink, this place will work! I was on the search for clam chowder but I was tired of going to the same places I go when I am in town. So I landed here. I ate at the bar which from a far looks fun but there is a huge lip on the bar that makes it impossible to get close to your food. To make matters a bit more complicated, I sat on the side of the bar with a slightly slanted floor. Between the two, it made for an adventure! Worrying I would tip (I wouldn't but it felt like it!) and trying to make it over the lip to my mouth with soup. I chose the bar top because it was one of the remaining spots that was open. This can easily be avoided by picking a table! I was a solo eater so picking a 4 top (or more) isn't my top choice, out of respect but I will next time. This is a funny place because I felt like I was on a ship and I had a grumpy captain (bartender). One of the bar keeps was a grumpy, curmudgeon-y man. I like to break the grumpy seal when I encounter these types of people but he held strong! I appreciate a grumpy person that stands their ground. It wasn't a problem for me, I just kept it simple and didn't engage, of which I think was their goal. I get it, I too have worked in the industry and survival skills are sometimes needed during shifts. The good news, there was another bartender that was kind so he evened the old grumpy bar captain energy. Clam chowder was thick and decent. I would get again. Looking around the room at the other food coming from the kitchen it looks like there are some excellent options. You will be satisfied with what you get. Just don't get soup/chowder at the bar (sandwiches would be fine!) unless you are excited about testing your eye-hand coordination with hot chowder. :) read more

We went there for lunch and this place has decent amount of people, and it seems like these are return customers, so this place must have done something right to get a lot of return customers. I got the chicken sandwich which I like it, it's a big portion so I can't finish it. Old Ship Saloon is fun. Its a solid little horse shoe bar with good wings. I had the Patty Melt - it comes with swiss, I think next time I'll ask for an American cheese (but that's just me). The lighting is high, even in the evenings. So not a romantic place / no booths at all. But for a neighborhood bar that serves food relateviley late (for san francisco on a sunday), I liked it. This is a straight up city corner bar that you stumble into before/after doing something else. The bartenders are pretty nice and the drinks are standard. It does sort of feel like you're in an old ship with the U-shaped wooden bar. This is a solid bar hopping spot if you're just roaming around the area living your best life. read more
