Since its pride month, I am reviewing this lovely wine bar once again as part of reviews of places that are open-to-all and LGBTQIA+ friendly! I love this place so much. They have a great list of alternating wines, and the food is super good too! I like the old bay fries and the Brussels sprouts. Staff is always warm and welcoming. It's get busy, but people turn over enough that there is usually somewhere to sit. We believe in second chances. And by we I mean me, my friends, and Tom. We showed up last night and immediately the atmosphere was different. Every single table was full and bustling. The people were laughing, the drinks were flowing. It smelled really good, which we would later find out was from the food especially that Mac and cheese. We started off with different wines, some that Tom recommended based on what we told him we didn't like or did like. He apologized for our previous experience and was genuinely a nice guy. Honestly it's very admirable for a business owner to take feedback to heart and want to incorporate it. Plus he's a really cool guy when you get to know him. The staff was busy running around but still made time to come check on us. Our final verdict is we came on a bad day. This time we got the actual Waystone experience. We finally got to try the chicken bites with a creamy aioli, fries with yogurt sauce, and the star of the show was the Mac and cheese. Tik tok did live up to the hype and we will have to come back for one of their jazz nights. Be warned this place gets busy! But it's worth it. read more

Came to Waystone on the Friday after Christmas hoping for a cozy wine bar vibe, but the experience was pretty disappointing. As soon as we approached the bar to take a quick photo, the bartender snapped at us that the kitchen was closed. No greeting or welcome. It immediately set an uncomfortable tone. We ended up ordering one bottle of wine which was fine. When I asked for water, the bartender rudely dropped the bottle on the table. The service felt dismissive and unfriendly the entire time, which really overshadowed the space. Unfortunately, between the service and the overall vibe, it is not a place I would return to. The art decor is also a bit odd and may not be for everyone, especially the paitings of white girls with dreadlocks. Overall, not the warm wine bar experience we were hoping for. read more

However, it quickly filled up, and we enjoyed our weekend night at this bar. I tried their Rose Zinfadel. The drink was light, fruity, and not overly sweet. Incredibly cute bar in North Beach, I love the vibes inside -- mild but cozy lighting, a mix of bar and table spots, and overalll very chill when I went after dinner on a weekday night. I don't profess to know a lot about wine, but I got a flight here of red / orange / white wine, and each one was pretty light and flavorful. Would recommend as a spot to bring a date or hang out with a few friends. I popped into Waystone on a Tuesday evening and the jazz was incredible. It is loud but really great of an experience. The food was surprisingly solid. I just am always amazed by places that can do good food and ambience and have a wide selection of drinks and entertainment and waystone checks off all of those boxes. My friends and I came back to Waystone this past Friday and the experience we had was a complete 180 from the first time we came. The ambiance was lovely, service was amazing (thank you Tom!), and the food was incredible. Yes, the wine is excellent..(not selling you 'natural' actively fermenting bottles) thoughtfully curated... the cab franc , interesting without being pretentious. Yes, the bites hit (shoutout to the watermelon salad). But what really makes Waystone magic is the people. Everyone who works here is warm, funny, and present in a way that makes you feel like you belong, whether it's your first visit or your 50th. Live jazz nights here are their own kind of therapy. I once saw a harpist who made me feel like I was floating inside the music. No cover, no pressure, just ridiculously good musicians making the whole place glow. One thing I love: the rotating local art. The walls change every so often as new artists take over, and it completely shifts the energy of the space. You might not love every piece, but that's kind of the point--it's alive, it's personal, and it's supporting real artists in SF. And if you do love something, you can take it home (yep, everything's for sale). Whether you're here for the jazz, the wine, the art, or the people.. waystone shows up with soul. This is my new favorite wine bar in the city with the most delish food menu! My out-of-town girls were visiting for the weekend so a wine bar was definitely on the itinerary. Came here on a Friday at 5:15pm and was able to grab one of the last tables for 3. We started with the red flight, chilled winter red flight, and the rainbow flight to get a good taste of what kinds of wines were offered here. We got a bottle of our favorite glass out of the tastings, which was a unique and unknown (to me) Blaufrankisch from Slovenia. To help all the wines go down, we ordered brussels sprouts, Old Bay fries, spinach dip, mac & cheese, and the fried chicken bites. All the food was delicious and exceeded my expectations for wine bar food, with my favorites being the fries and warm spinach dip. I loved that we were here just as the sun was setting and got to see the vibes go from daytime casual to a moodier space with bumping house beats, low lighting, and buzzing energy. Service was great, everyone was so friendly and clearly very passionate about wine. This is such a good spot to start a fun date night or catch up with the girlies. My favorite neighborhood wine bar! The owner is so much fun and makes you feel right at home when you walk in! All the wine choices are amazing - Did the chilled red wine flight last night and it did not disappoint. The food is also so good - my favorites are the warm spinach dip, mac and cheese and brussels sprouts, but I have tried almost everything on the menu and nothing has disappointed. Monday nights they have open jam where people from the community can bring their instruments. It was such a fun and unique experience to stumble upon last night. So fun!! Came here for the first time with a friend and we had a great experience. It's a small, cozy spot with some tables, larger tables towards the back and of course bar seating. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable, he talked to us a bit about orange wines and gave us some tasters. A lot of different wine and food options on the menu. We both went with a glass of wine and also ordered hummus which came with bread, cucumber slices and pickles. It was good but I'd want to try something else next time (maybe the whipped feta). This place is a must go to if you're in San Francisco. We called in for a light bite and drinks and were overwhelmed by the service, welcome, food, wines and beers. Matt the manager is a delight! He was so knowledgeable about wines and also spent time giving us suggestions for other places locally to visit. It was the nicest afternoon we had on our holiday and his hospitality made it for us!! The jazz band on tuesdays rules the restaurant. It was way too loud. We were one of the 4 tables that complained about the volume and we were the furthest away from the band. The servers also agreed and informed us that they already told the band numerous times to turn it down and they wouldn't. It's a shame because Waystone has great food, the wine was FANTASTIC (rose pinot noir), the servers were a pleasure, and overall the atmosphere was wonderful. But, if you have to scream to communicate to the person directly next to you and fear for your hearing, its hard to say you'll come back. read more
