The best gelato I had in Italy. The entire menu is in Italian hut the staff were super nice in helping me pick a flavor. The coke was filled with caramel sauce (peanut butter consistency) which I could bathe in it was so good. I chose the chocolate chip and raspberry which were delicious and rich. It is located around beautiful scenery as you can see by the picture. There are only a few indoor seats and no outdoor seats. Highly recommend you give this place a try.

Absolutely the best gelato I have ever had. Luck to have stumbled across this quaint place in Ostiense for a late night snack. The ordering system is fast and efficient for handling the heavy traffic (which is always a good sign). When traveling I always try and find a spot that the locals are using and not a tourist trap. This place was very accommodating despite my newly learned Italian . They ring everyone up based on the size of the gelati order (piccolo, medio, or grande). No upcharge for cones/cups or any of their amazing chocolate cone fillings. You then head down to the serving area which isnt a large case of overflowing mounds of overly colorful treats (red flag). They have the traditional round metal w/ lid storage containers and you must choose off the posted menu (Italian only). They ask if you would like chocolate in your cone prior to scooping (an obvious yes!) and then load up your cone! I got the pistacchio and the biscotti del nonna. I cannot even choose which was my favorite as they each were top notch in their own right. This is a must try spot on your next trip to Roma!!!

La Romana was a fantastic experience! I can say with certainty this was the best gelato I have ever tried. The flavors are unique. I tried the fragolia with cioccolato; it was just amazing.

This is one of my favorite gelato spots - I was so happy when my Italian friends in Padua (small city outside of Venice) brought me to the one in Padua and I was sad I wouldn't get to eat this gelato again. I was thrilled to find another outpost in Rome. They don't have a massive amount of flavors here (maybe 10-15 to choose from), as compared to other gelato places, but all the flavors are pretty authentic Italian flavors with a bit of a twist. They have traditional flavors like pistachio, hazelnut, chocolate, dark chocolate, but then they also have some flavors like biscotto della nonna (we got this one and it was delicious), yogurt with berries. They also have seasonal flavors that rotate in and out. We got the grande (3,50€) which was 4 scoops, but the scoops were pretty small. It was a good way to try multiple flavors though - I could have easily eaten 2 scoops by myself (I had gotten 2 scoops by myself when I had this in Padua a few days before coming here). A small (1 scoop) is 2,50€, and a medium (2 scoops) is 3€. What makes them stand out from other gelaterias is that they have streams of gianduja and of white chocolate that constantly come out of a stream/spout, that they put at the bottom cone. This lets you get a little treat at the end of your gelato, prevents gelato from dripping out the bottom of the cone, and it's just plain delicious. They also have fresh whipped cream that they top your gelato off with. I would absolutely come back here on another trip to Rome. They have a few locations within Rome, including one close to Termini train station. Make sure to stop here to try their gelato - it's inexpensive, not touristy (you'll see a lot of locals here, and there's always a well-deserved line out the door that moves quickly), and the quality is excellent.

My favorite gelato and desserts shop we visited while in Rome. So many different flavors and atmosphere was really great as well. You could tell it was a hot spot for dessert as there was a line at 9pm in the middle of December for gelato, but the atmosphere inside is so warm and inviting why wouldn't you eat gelato in the winter right? The cakes they had were so cute too.

This place always has lines out the door (yes, even at midnight), so we lucked out by living right across the street from it during our visit to Roma. They have an extensive selection of creamy (not fruity) gelatos, and then up the anti by shooting a shot of white or dark chocolate to the base, and add whipped cream to the top. So, so good! Our daily (okay sometimes more than once a day) trips to La Romana were not good for our waistlines, but oh so good for our taste buds. A must try if you're in Rome! Tip - get it in a cup, or get a cup to go with your cone. They melt quickly, so a cup is necessary so that you don't miss out on a single drop!

This place was right across from my hotel and while there is gelato on every street corner in Rome, I feel like I got lucky because this was my daily ritual while in Rome and apparently there's such thing as bad gelato. Luckily, I was walking 12 miles a day because it's rich, and I always got coffee-flavored whipped cream (which was so thick it was like ice cream on it's own) and was probably about five million calories. It was not, however, very expensive, with one serving starting at 2 euros and going up to 4 for the largest serving. I tried a different flavor of gelato each time and this place has a range of flavors, from dark chocolate, to pear to biscotto with chocolate and vanilla toppings running from an indoor fountain. I agree with the reviewer who said to get it in a cup because it does melt fast and while I was there (late October) it was busy but I was always served within a few minutes of entering the store.

Very good. Such a cute place. It's a little hectic inside with a ton of people, but love the decor. In the back there is a display case with gelato popsicles and sandwiches that looked delicious as well.

Very clean and modern interior. Reminds me of San Fran or So Cal ice creamery. The refrigerated desserts were mediocre. The gelato was very creamy. My favorite was the zabiaone come una volta and caffe.

If you want to try a gelato that is creamy, and fun to eat this is your place. The ambiance is modern & you can add toppings if you want, but the amazing not too heavy yet creamy consistency is what stands out. It is definitely among the top gelaterias in Rome. It's few blocks away from Eately, so if you're in neighborhood give it a try.

Cream whipped cream, limone gelato, crema gelato

This is probably my favorite gelato place in or around Rome! I have gotten some fruiter, lighter flavors like fragola and limone but also some richer, creamier flavors like crema. The service is great and they will ask you if you want a dollop of warm, milk chocolate at the bottom of your cone (I highly recommend it). They also have a crema whipped cream (think: custard whipped cream) that I cannot recommend enough!

    Amazing!

Pure and unadulterated pleasure…read more Whatever you have been working towards, You have now encountered Life's Rewards. * * * The leprechauns were confused when they thought the Pot of Gold At The End Of The Rainbow was in Ireland. The pot of gold is not in Ireland. It is in Rome at the Pasticceria Barberini. * * * Pasticceria Barberini is an old school 1920's pastry shop. Yeah yeah yeah, they play Italian rap on the sound system. But the tile on the floor, the decoration on the walls, the marble, the benches and the tables, these are all old school Roma from before the war. I wish they played Neapolitan tenors of 1925 from when the bakery was founded and not Sferra Ebbasta's and Capo Plaza's hits from last week. But for THESE pastries, they can play whomever they like, whenever they like. * * * The pastry selection is vast and massively massively tempting. Prudence limited me to two pleasures. Those pleasures were epiphany, nirvana, and the concluding moment of passion all in one. The first item was a chocolate bigli. (That is a cream puff or beignet - but in an Italian shape.) This. Is. The. Little. Kid. Chocolate. Dessert. Of. Your. Dreams. A sudden Niagara of chocolate happiness. The pastry is small. But you could not take any more happiness in one dose. * * * The chocolate bigli was the second best pastry I had. Yes, you heard that right. Second best. * * * The first best pastry was more of an adult pleasure. Not so much chocolate storming around you in every direction. But a subtle mix of complex tastes with as many flavor-colors and striations as a pillar of the finest Italian marble. I am referring to what they modestly call their carrot cake. Carrots are what merely held the cake together. Inside was a kaleidoscope of different savory touches and ribbons of taste. Orange was a regular accent. Hazelnut was a regular accent. Almond weaved in and out of the proceedings. The longer I tasted, the more I found. I could have studied that carrot cake for an hour Eating three slices but taking twenty minutes on each one. (I only had one slice but I wish I could have had three slices.) Each new forkful pulled out a different accent I had not noticed before. A flavor I thought was one thing turned out to be something completely different entirely. That cake was a crossword puzzle and an atlas of the world and a great big history of art book all in one. I could have gone over the details for ages and ages and ages. Each new detail made me happier and happier. * * * Just for the record, Barberini's was originally a milk store. (Yes, in the 1920's Italy had milk stores. Supermarkets were rare and city people did not have a cow. So you went to a milk store to get your daily milk.) The milk store evolved into a gelateria. They added the pastry and became famous for the pastry. The rest is history. Out of a sense of tradition, they do keep a stock of their own gelato on hand. For all I know that gelato could be wonderful. * * * 3/4 of their glass case however is devoted to pastry. With pastries like this, you can easily see why. Someone someday should let me know if the gelato is any good. But it would take the Chains of Prometheus to keep me from ordering a whole plate of pastries the next time that I return here.
