Now, I did not have a single bad gelato in Rome! This place has the largest variety of gelato that I found though. It is somewhat hidden in plain sight, near the Spanish Steps. It looks like an old ice cream/soda store from the USA on the inside, so that was nostalgic. Such a wide variety of desserts and gelatos! I got some gelato and a dessert as well. Very rich but so good! You cannot sit in the dining area unless you are ordering off of their food menu--so be prepared to eat outside or at one of the counters. Definitely recommend going here if you are in this area.

Creamy, Sweetie, Fresh I got you twice for breakfast My love, Gelato That's my haiku about gelato. It's called "Gelato." I genuinely think this is the best gelato I've ever had -- maybe tied with La Carraia in Florence. I tried the following flavors : Raspberry Pistachio Walnut Blueberry Also they have some dairy free options

This place lives up to the hype. Such high quality. I got a little sad when I finished it so fast. Definitely recommend this location over the more central one. There was absolutely no wait and tables were available to sit down and enjoy. I will say this place has less flavors than the other location. Super affordable prices as well. Almond and the eggnog-like flavors were my favorite.

Been here so many times and would never think of coming to Rome without a few stops here! No matter how full I am, I have to have it! This time I got pistachio, Coconut, and Gianduja. I also love cassata and anything with hazelnuts! The line is always long, the place hopping busy, but all moves fast. I eye the cookies but have to go straight to the gelato. Get three flavors. Trust me on that!

Giolitti was okay. The service was good, but I heard that if you came earlier on the day it would be packed. We went around 11:00 pm so it wasn't as crowded. The gelato was pretty decent not the best gelato in Roma but alright.

Great find. Best I've had so far. The strawberry was amazing and then I got chocolate chip. They added some type of cream on top which was also good !

AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. The line was long but well worth it. Once you're in the gelato area it can get quite hectic as there is no real queue so you need to be assertive and move to the front lol. The flavors are incredible and hands down creamiest gelato I've ever had in my life. Nothing compares. If they ask you for cream, say yes. It was a great touch and has a unique taste!

This is REAL gelato. Thanks to a food tour we learned how to tell what is real and this is as real as it gets, as they have been doing it the real way since 1914. This is where you find an owner who takes pride in real made out of quality ingredients. Remember to pick TWO flavors! But pick wisely as some do not go together, and you don't want to get thrown out for attempting to mix the wrong ones. :) Be especially careful of fruit flavors with non-fruit flavors. Just sayin'. Oh, and real means nothing if it doesn't taste good. This gelato very much lives up to its hype!

Things you need to know about Gelato (per the food tour we took): 80% is fake gelato, gelato is churned and therefore dense and does not sit in mountainy-pillowy piles (in fact, it will barely sit above the gelato container), and it does not have artificial colors (banana flavor will not look yellow and mint will not look green). With that said, this is THE ORIGINAL GIOLITTI and was the most amazing gelato we had. It doesn't have 501 flavors like other places, but what they do best, they do it phenomenal. We ordered the pistachio, zambaigne (I think I'm butchering the name), limone, and cherry (con panna - with whipped cream, you are crazy if you don't ask for it), all AMAZING Being rated the top 3rd gelato place in Rome to stop by, you can't miss it!

Ok, I can confirm all the hype around this gelateria is true, this place is da bomb! Forget the flagship store on Via degli Uffici I del Vicario, this one in Testaccio has no queue! I've tried a few famous gelaterias in Italy that are recommended by the locals and so far my favorite is Giolitti!! Hands down the best zabaglione and nocciola!!! With the whipped cream on top they taste amazing! For 3 flavors I only paid €2.30, the super affordable price made me even happier. Must try!! Ottimo gelato a Roma, e spettacolo, non delude mai! Prezzo molto buono, consigliatissimo!!!

One of the best place for ice cream with a great service. We went out to buy an ice cream, we were going to pay and they only accept cash, they sent us to the bank but they let us take our ice cream and go to the bank, that is, they trust TOTALLY in you. This does not happen anywhere anymore. THANKS!!!

Amazing gelatto. Super simple place and in the middle of a neighborhood. Really recommend.

The gelato was super good. I pick Blueberry and Wild Cherry. I love all the fruit gelato. It was $2.50euro for a great experience. Only thing is the workers are not too friendly. It was a very busy day. They all have kind of attitude but I guess I can understand how tired they must be. I'll definitely come back again!

Expecting it to be there one year, I walked over to Piazza Navona and Gelateria Navona had evidently closed. I would then get gelato here and there. I then learned that Giolitti is a long standing gelateria and it's also in the historic center. I filed the name away in my head. Then, one day, I happened to walk right in front of it without even looking for it, so I went in. Giolitti is popular and it can be crowded. I'm going to say that I waited about 10 to 15 minutes. You pay at a counter first, deciding on what you want and how much of it, such as scoops and whether it will be in a cup or a cone. Once up at the counter, they don't rush you, which surprised me. I don't take that much time since I don't experiment much, but I still appreciate the courtesy. The price is roughly what everyone else in the historic center is charging. I always opt for the gelato it in a cup so you can "control" the dripping. The gelato - a mix of dark chocolate and two citrus flavors - was "molto buono." That said, just because it's so popular, I'm not going to downgrade Giolitti for it and complain about the crowds. You downgrade gourmet donut places in the U.S. where their fame has gone to their heads. There is also a spacious salon with nicer decor in which you can eat inside. At this point, Giolitti is really the only gelateria in Rome whose name I remember. I would gladly go back and I recommend it.

Tucked along the lively streets of Trastevere, this little spot delivers gelato with genuine craftsmanship and flavors that taste as authentic as the city around you. The first thing you notice is the freshness. Each flavor looks vibrant--not overly piled or artificially glossy--and you can tell everything is made with real ingredients. One spoonful confirms it: the gelato is creamy, smooth, and beautifully balanced. The fruit flavors burst with natural sweetness, especially the mango and strawberry, while the classics like pistachio, hazelnut, and chocolate showcase that rich, deep, true-to-ingredient taste that only well-made gelato can achieve. Their specialty flavors are equally impressive--unique without feeling gimmicky--and everything is served at the perfect temperature so the texture stays silky, not icy. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the cones have that fresh baked aroma that adds an extra layer of enjoyment. The staff is warm and welcoming, happy to offer suggestions, and patient even when you're debating between ten flavors that all look incredible. The atmosphere reflects Trastevere itself--relaxed, friendly, and full of character. If you don't know what real gelato should look like check my photos. First it shouldn't be piled high into mountains. Secondly the colors should be natural. We said our goodbyes to the tour and the gelato was so good I wanted more. We ended up getting an affogato and a few more scoops in a bowl the second time.
