I've gotten Glossy several times in the past few months. Fun place! I can only speak for the Friday night party though, never went on other nights. First, I like the dress code- or lack there of. If you are feeling lazy, you can def wear some jeans and tank top. If you want to get your skank on, you can def wear just a little bit of whatever. The collective party there seems usually be pretty mixed, so it doesn't matter what you wear. I also like the music there, there was a cool variety with alot of rock, it was new and different from most clubs. Someone mentioned they play some stuff you can't really dance to, but that's ok, you can go get another drink, and before you know it, you've made up a dance for that previously un-dance-able song! And the ladies bathroom attendant is very cool, and do bring some dollars to let her know you appreciate the paper towels, gum, smelly sprays, and lotions. I'm not a fan of the 5 or 6 dollar cover, that's kinda a bummer. And I do wish they would stay open till 2, not 1 or whenever it is that they close. But maybe they can't, I dunno. When I want to dance, I think of Lipgloss on Friday nights. Drinks are reasonable and it is not your typical jock in striped button down/jeans drooling over little itty bitties kind of place. There is a little of that, but the crowd is so varied, it's worth the cover to check everyone out. The music's awesome although at times there are obscure songs which are impossible to dance to but that's ok. It's just fun to watch everyone get their groove on. read more

While I can only speak about Friday's Lipgloss party at La Rumba, it is definitely my favorite spot for a fun Friday night out. The crowd is super diverse, the drinks are reasonable, and the DJs spin a very dance friendly mix of tunes. La Rumba is a blast. I have only been a few times, but I can not wait to return and learn to salsa! Very fun atmosphere!

If you are looking for a great place to Salsa for an evening, this is the place for you! Doors open at 9:00 and they do a quick free lesson until 9:30. If you want, you can pay a little more and get in for a 1 hour group lesson at 8:00. Even after doing private lessons a year ago, it was a great refresher. One or two moves is all you need and you are ready! The band was awesome, like Gypsy Kings awesome! The bar makes great drinks, and there is a lot of seating to catch your breath in between songs. I do recommend getting there when the doors open so you can stake a claim on seating for the night because the place will pack out by 10:30. $7 cover charge to get in. read more

First visit Jan 2017: I just wanted a fun place to dance salsa and my expectations were definitely met. DJ was good, he played a little of everything then there was a live band! Single ladies don't be afraid to come without a partner. I was dancing with several partners while there. Folks are friendly and some are really good dancers. So regardless of your level come out. There's a live band on Saturdays which I thought was great and my drinks were good. Second & third visits: Had a decent time. It was much more crowded on the dance floor which isn't as fun when you have people bumping into you and not apologizing or even caring. My initial review was 5 stars but my subsequent visits left something to be desired (more like a 3 star) so I averaged it out to a 4 star review :) read more

I'm not too sure about La Rumba as a salsa club but I have really been digging the whole Friday night Lipgloss schtick for some years now. Tyler and Trundle have made a club for those of us that are tired of the top 40 scene...if we were ever into it to begin with. No Fergie or Nelly Furtado. Good indie, dance punk, brit pop, soul, and electronica music all through out the night. It's really cool when they bring in celebs to DJ like Peter Hook from New Order/Joy Division, Andy Rourke of the Smiths or Carlos D of Interpol. There is defintely a reason why Westword has named Lipgloss best club for a couple years now. read more

First time going on a Saturday night. Didn't have very high expectations and was pleasantly surprised! There was a live band that was AMAZING, to say the least. The DJ that played in between was great as well. I am from Miami, home of salsa and all things Latin, so trust me when I say the music was great. Went to LipGloss this last Friday for a friend's birthday and I had a great time! It's very hipster friendly with very danceable indie electronica and some rap. Free entrance before 10pm and $5 afterwards. There's a lot of seating and large dance floor. read more

Sure it's easy to succumb to place with a good rep..but I still like to go and see for myself what a place is all about. First off there is a $7 cover on a Saturday night, I imagine this could fluctuate but hopefully not much. Once you get over that hump though be prepared for some live excitement. I arrived at 9:30 or so to witness the beginner 'Salsa' class in session. I didn't catch the instructor's name but she is there every week and full of spunk from what I caught. The class even included a little bit about 'Salsa' etiquette and what to and not to do with you partner on the dance floor. After the class the party begins with the weekly regulars taking charge on the floor mixed in with the first-timers getting their feet wet. Ok, so we live right by this joint and i have to say it's definately not NYC, but they seem to think so because they charge NYC prices for a Grey Goose and Red Bull (they were light on the Grey Goose)!!!!! To be honest I would only go there if I had company from out of town and they really wanted to go dancing. Great DJ on Fridays and a good deal for salsa lessons, but as for a place to drink and chill I wouldn't bother for the prices!!!! read more

My favorite place to Latin dance in Denver - there are really great lessons every day of the week, and the atmosphere is fun and there are lots and lots of dance partners for all abilities. We also appreciate the nightly drink specials - we always tend to go on Thursdays for $3 Paloma's (yay tequila!) but we love Fri & Sat too. If you are looking for more serious lessons, M-W with Jig and Sonora (when the club is closed) is definitely the way to go...I'm much more comfy with salsa & bachata as a result of taking their classes. read more

Employees were nice. Parking was a bit challenging but available around the neighborhood. The music all sounds the same to me after a while. A big annoyance was the people practicing near the bar. They kept spinning into me while I'm just standing there out of the way sipping on my O'douls. C'mon.....get back on the dance floor. They should limit the area these fools can dance in. I went to La Rumba on a Saturday night. Cover was $12, and the live band was pretty good. It was very crowded with mostly experienced dancers. If you don't have a dance partner and don't know how to dance well it can be a bit intimidating. Overall I would recommend this club. Next time I will certainly take some lessons beforehand. read more

I recently returned to Lipgloss after many years, and sadly, it is not the Lipgloss of old. While it still drew a mixed queer/straight crowd it was much more tame. The crowd actually dwindled as the night drew on, not a good sign. The heinous 80s videos were a nice touch and added a useful distraction from the pathetic drunken men that were desperately trying to catch the eye of some unsuspecting victim. read more

We were visiting Colorado for two days so we decided to get some exercise and practice a few salsa moves. We went Thursday evening about 9:30 and it was lightly packed. By 10:30 the dance floor was full. This place is clean, the people were friendly, the up-lighting was colorful and the dance floor was large. In the restroom was a friendly lady attendant. Love this place! I can't do salsa dancing to save my life, but no one cares. Sure I can dance but I've never had to keep my upper body still. I felt like Robin Williams in 'The Bird Cage.' Ha! Brought my husband here for a dance lesson for his birthday. He is a nice dresser and a great dancer so I was really excited to celebrate with him here. We were turned away at the door because he had shorts on. They were very nice dress shirts. When I asked to speak to the manager, they called over a guy who "rents pants". I had dressed up and my husband had a nice dress shirt on. It was his birthday. They could not make an exception for a great guy dressed nicely on his birthday. I've never been to this place when it was La Rumba, but I've been to Lip Gloss (as it becomes on Friday night) a few times. This is the only 'dance' club worth going to. They play a wide variety of songs instead of the usual hip hop / techno you find everywhere else. They also serve $2 gin you call its. I've never walked away from this place unsatisfied and I can't wait to try out La Rumba. read more

The music is a little hit and miss at La Rumba. They don't play top 40's, but the trade-off is not always danceable jams. It's mostly electro-pop, but sometimes they throw you a curve ball, like with last night's super-painful guest dj. I left within ten minutes of him opening his set with a Kid Rock mash-up. No thanks. No cover before ten, $5 after, and pretty well-priced drink specials. The crowd here is weird. The music and the trannies keep this place from being entirely overrun with backwards visors and popped collars, but they are definitely invading the space more and more as the music genre is becoming more mainstream. If you're of age and want to go out on a Friday night, this is certainly one of Denver's best options. read more

I went to this place with a group of friends from the Colorado School of English... ie Foreigners.. shh don't tell immigaration. Man it was a good time, from the reasonably proced drinks, to the older cougar of a woman who grabbed me and danced several songs with me. Man I had no idea you could still be hot at that age as long as you knew how to shimmy and shake my god! I must say thoug hthat my freind gave me sound advice, before salsaing (especially if you are only faking it) you must dirnk a beer, take a shot and drink another beer. Unprofessional. This was our first visit, probably our only. Mainly the male instructor was rude. During class he said he could kick people out if he wanted to, loud enough for people to hear but not direct. First of all, a business has the right do so, but in class while instructing? No thanks, and under his breath but still loud enough for some to hear? Rude. Next if a student is having trouble with a move, instead of getting annoyed, go show them. I've taken Dance classes, solo ones but at times some would incorporate a partner. The instructors usually would come and show the person if they are having trouble. They would give the students guidance. If the instructor does not want to be of guidance, then get mirrors. Because as a dancer it helps to see what you are doing so you can learn to do it right. Last, when we walked in the first time before they started, no one said hello. We said hi but no response. Even the female instructor past us. Next time say hello, ask if their there for the class? It comes off inviting that way. This place is dark, awkward and we thought we were at the wrong place. If it was not for my birthday, I may not have cared so much about the snotty, I am better than you attitude. However as a previous manager, a professional, and a former dancer the lack of display of professionalism is not okay. Other dance studios in Denver, even Austin TX would not let this fly. read more

friday night, went before 10 so got in free. the penalty was listening to a live band that was cool at first, read 80's new wave-y then turned bad. i have nothing to compare it to. but it was ok, because we didnt have to pay a cover and were able to have a few drinks before the dance party that is lipgloss commenced. after that, much fun was had, i'll for sure go back. it was a very eclectic crowd. that's a plus in my world. read more

Great dancing; sleazy management. The dancing instruction was fantastic, and the atmosphere is great. However, the advertising on their website did not match what they charged in terms of door/cover costs, and they would not provide a glass of water from the bar when requested. read more

We arrived after 10pm so we had to pay $7 to get in. The music was great, a DJ and live band mix. You must be prepared to dance, because you will constantly be asked if you are standing near the dance floor. Overall had a great time until we left to find that my car had been broken into while it was parked outside the club. The police officers in the club were reluctant to help. It made me nervous in the first place that the club has two police officers on duty in the club for the whole night. Now I know why. read more

La Rumba taught me how I they can take my money!! We came here on a THURSDAY an hour before opening time for a lesson. It's $80.00 for a punch card but there is a $10 cover anyway so to me the lesson is for $10.00 and you need to pay go get in. The instructor was rude. There was a good crowd of 20 people so it was hard for the instructor to really show you how to dance. I would not go to la Rumba any more! read more

I go to Lipgloss a lot. They don't even have a VIP area. Also, I work in a bar. You can't let a passed out person stay in a bar because the fire marshalls can fine you thousands of dollars and close the bar down for up to 2 weeks. The place is a lot of fun. I don't know which bar Sandra wandered into, but I don't think it was the same one I went to. read more
