I came to eat here because I read great reviews and also read about how great the meatballs were here. I ordered the meatballs, and they didn't disappoint. These meatballs were delicious! The only thing is that the meatballs are not served with pasta, only a side of bread. Regardless of that, they were so delicious that I wish I could have gone back again. The restaurant is in the charming Trastevere district, and we really enjoyed our outdoor seating. The only downside was the wall right across the restaurant that had been badly tagged. It wasn't the restaurant's fault, but it was an eyesore. On the bright side, the restaurant itself was beautiful. The service was excellent. We have all the things we need with this one. We have quick service. We have a cute patio tucked into a cozy corner of Trastevere. We have excellent fresh Roma food. La Scala is a solid, satisfying dinner spot that doesn't waste your time or test your patience. We were in and out and under an hour. The ambiance is very low-key and rustic. I had high hopes for this place because of the reviews. The service was so so. They were very friendly but didn't come by hardly enough to see if you needed anything specially refills on your wine. The ingredients were really fresh specially the prawns but when I ordered the ribeye which should've been cooked medium rare they made it well done. The steak itself was really good quality but they waaaay overcooked it. If they had cooked it properly it would've been delicious! It was one of the first nights we didn't have reservations so all of the recommended places turned us away at the door. It was next to a famous spot and had nice outside seating, so we sat here. Was easy to make same day dinner reservations by calling for a party of 6. They sat us outside in the patio area where it was quite lively and we could hear live street music. The pizzas are wonderful, thin crust with the right amount of toppings prosciutto and cheese, the grill vegetables were spot on, the appetizers: bruschetta and olives were delightful. We used this restaurant when evaluating the taste of different pizzas we ordered at other restaurants. This place has the right atmosphere and the waiters are second to none. I sought this restaurant out based on the recommendation from a colleague's son who spent some time in Rome as a college student. It did not disappoint and was fantastic. My experience was aligned with most of the other reviewers. In a neighborhood teeming with restaurants, I would go out of my way to seek this one out. Their menu is comprehensive and is divided into several sections grouped types of foods: local specialties, seafood, meats etc. their wine list is extensive. I offered a price range and our server recommended an Italian Bordeaux-style Cabernet Sauvignon blend which paired well with dinner. Some of the dishes ordered/shared by our party of three: a very good tonnarelli cacio e pepe which I was interested in as I had never had it before. Now that I've checked that one off my list I can say that I get it..... the interplay of a few simple high quality ingredients combined with the somewhat unique thick square shaped long pasta was very very good. Carciofi alla giudea, the fried artichoke in the Jewish style A small crock of the meat lasagna which was excellent and recommended! Grilled lamb chops with the freshest, most fragrant rosemary I've ever tasted that were fantastic and reasonably priced I was tempted by the truffles. There is a menu section dedicated to truffles dishes so I ordered the filet of beef topped with shaved black truffles which was perfectly cooked and a nice treat. We also got a mixed seafood grill dish that had large prawns, grilled squid and a very light delicious piece of fish that I forgot to ask what kind. For dessert we got Nutella crepes and a first rate panna cotta topped with a coating of coarsely chopped high-quality dark chocolate. Yum! A complimentary taste of limoncello with some biscotti rounded off the evening. Service was good and typical as indicated for Italy; remember to ask for the check when you're ready. read more

Ravioli is one of my favorites, so when I see Large home-made ravioli stuffed with buffalo ricotta on a menu, I'm ordering it! I recommend these as well! Stuck between 3-4 stars and undecided for a few reasons. Overall, ambiance is very nice. Great outdoor seating right in the heart of travestere, on a lively, very fun street. A bit more expensive than other restaurants in the area, in my opinion. Food was 50/50, will describe that below. Pricing: like I said, definitely a bit higher than some other restaurants, but nothing too crazy whatsoever. Burrata was a bit on the pricier side, and we tried the truffle burrata which was a bit more expensive (and obviously expected). Came just a small piece with nothing else accompanying it. Was very good, but small and pricier than other places. Wine ordered by the half bottle for the same price as other restaurants charge for a full bottle. Pricing of main meals such as pastas seemed normal, main dishes maybe a bit more expensive but again nothing wildly above average. Food: undecided because my meal was delicious, yet friends did not enjoy their burrata risotto at all. Said it was severely lacking flavor, and were very disappointed. I ordered the fettuccini frutte di mare (seafood dish), and that was very good. I order this a lot and I did not have any issues with this dish at all. Dessert was actually very good!! Ordered Nutella crepe and fresh fruit cheesecake. Both were delicious and fairly priced! Overall, can't say this place is a MUST to try in Rome, but absolutely not did not hate it.
