We all came to this cute, Italian restaurant named Tempo di Bacco on Via Lombardi with four of us friends, all of us hailing from California originally, but two have landed in Florida for the last two decades. The waiters, Christian and Uddin, were very helpful to us, bringing out the food and desserts by quickly and fulfilling our requests for either sparkling water or hot water with alacrity. Christian entertained us and kept us laughing about his growing up and traveling in our neck of the woods, living in Los Angeles, Van Nuys, Pasadena, and in Florida, where we've been living, while also giving us the detailed run down on today's specials. We decided to order the delicious clam with linguine, seafood fettuccine, ravioli and spaghetti with meat balls. One of us had the minestrone soup. I had a spoonful, it was tasty. Everyone was happy with their order, and enjoyed eating their respective dishes. Three of us ordered the desserts, including hazelnuts with a pistachio cream, chocolate mousse with dried raspberries and panne cotto with caramel (but no gold chocolate). The desserts were exceptionally tasty, and each of us tried a spoonful of the others' desserts just to try out. My photo of the chocolate mousse was too blurry, but my spoonful was very delicious. The parking is a little tight, like most streets in Rome if you have a car, but it's located near the buses as well. A taxi might be a good choice. If you're in Rome, do try and check out this cute Italian restaurant for a lunch or dinner meal, it's located just one block away from the Westin Excelsior, you will be happy you did. read more

Today starts a 27-day visit to Italy, and with that came my first food stop in Rome at Tempio di Bacco near Hotel Eliseo. This little restaurant is tucked tightly along Via Lombardia, exactly what you picture when imagining a cozy Roman street café nestled between old buildings. They offer both indoor seating and a beautiful outdoor patio, and with weather like today there was no chance I was sitting inside. Wanting to keep it simple for my first meal in Italy, I ordered the Spaghetti con Polpette, and it was outstanding. The homemade-style meatballs sat on top of fresh pasta with rich sauce that tasted like it came straight from someone's family kitchen. They also brought out fantastic bread with olive oil, pepper, and freshly ground salt so you could make your own dipping blend at the table. The wait staff was extremely friendly, helpful with ordering, and made a few recommendations for the table that were spot on. And the outdoor seating? As the ladies might say, it was cute. Ordered the Tagliatelle al ragú, they were the worst ragú I've ever had. It was super salty, tomate in the sauce was super acid and paste was undercooked. I complained, they offer to change it for something else. I decided to go for the Caccio e Pepe it was a little bit better but average flavor. Got the grouper and it was undercooked. I understand that you can still eat undercooked fish but it really just doesn't match when it feels like it's a medium rare steak.. My girl friend got the fettuccine prawn, tasted amazing but the prawns were over cooked. My gfs mom got the gnocchi muscles, I think that was my favorite dish. if you don't mind eating a bunch of potato noodles then you'll like it. Anyways I give it a 3 star. The second place we ate for dinner in Roma. It had good recs so we checked it out and it did not disappoint. Very friendly staff, good English and able to answer questions and make recs. Located about a 3 minute walk from Hotel Savoy, this restaurant did not disappoint. Came for an afternoon meal/lunch. We all ordered different drinks and meals and all were very happy and satisfied. Amazing find in Rome! We came here our first day in Rome, after about an hour to freshen up in our nearby hotel (so we didn't all look like zombies), and our hotel concierge recommended this place. It was very easy to find, and when we walked in at 6pm on a Thursday, we were welcomed warmly and seated promptly as the concierge had made us a reservation. Everything we ate was delicious! My family loved the bread and olive oil to start, and we also shared a tomato caprese salad and tomato brushetta. Delicious. The fresh mozzarella on the caprese was the best cheese I have ever eaten. For our entrees, we ordered the fettucine with mushrooms and breadcrumbs, fettucine with lobster, lasagna and salad nicoise. The lobster came with a cracker to cut it open, but my sister said it rivaled the Maine lobster she is used too! My sister ordered the triple chocolate mousse for dessert while I had the tiramisu. Both were amazing. The tiramisu was so fresh and creamy, best I've ever had. Everyone loved their meals and our server was so sweet and friendly. I would reccommend this place to anyone, but they were extremely kind to us travel wary foreigners! And the menus we got were half in Italian, half in English. Found this place by mistake & it turned out to be a nice experience. Small establishment with outdoor and indoor seating. I would have preferred to be indoors due to the cold rainy weather but they were packed & I can understand with it being around the lunch hour on a Sunday. The wait for a table was a little under 10 minutes. The service here is very slow. I believe I only saw two non kitchen employees working the tables both inside & outside. We had an older man as our waiter & he was very friendly, however, he moved dreadfully slow. We almost got up and left right before he came back to take our order. I ordered the ravioli with ricotta & spinach. Very delicious! & the portion size is plenty. My boyfriend ordered the lasagna & praises how good it was. He said it was the best lasagna he's ever had. Our visit to Tempio di Bacco was mixed. We made an early reservation was easy and we were warmly greeted. The person who waited on us was helpful with recommendations. The night we visited they were out of Veal and veal features significantly on two popular dishes. So we opted for the days special a beef ragù with fresh fettuccine. It was tasty. Three stars for the lamb. My wife got the lamb and I do not recommend it. The lamb chops looked good on the plate but that is where it ended. Good lamb can be served med rare, but these were way under done as in "blue"/raw not just rare or red near the bone. Furthermore the chips contained too much connective tissues/grizzle. It made the meat chewy, hard to cut and overall less enjoyable. Sent it back for medium and the meat temp was fine now but the amount of grizzle and silver skin made it difficult to enjoy . The potatoes were tasty as was the greens served with it. If the meat were prepped better and the lamb more tender it would have rated higher. read more

Stumbled on this place just walking around after a tour. Initially just stopped for drinks, but after sitting there enjoying the mild weather and good company we decided to stay for dinner. Between the four of us we had Caprese Salad, Spinach and Ricotta ravioli, caccio e' pepe, pork scallopine ( they were out of veal), spaghetti carbonara, prawns, seafood risotto, and these unbelievably good fried artichokes along with wine, beer, and cocktails. All the food was very good, but those thinly sliced and flash fried artichoke hearts were hands down the best thing we ate. When we actually walked to the restaurant, we were greeted immediately. The staff was friendly and polite. My food was ok- I had the chicken and bruschetta.
