We all came to this cute, Italian restaurant named Tempo di Bacco on Via Lombardi with four of us friends, all of us hailing from California originally, but two have landed in Florida for the last two decades. The waiters, Christian and Uddin, were very helpful to us, bringing out the food and desserts by quickly and fulfilling our requests for either sparkling water or hot water with alacrity. Christian entertained us and kept us laughing about his growing up and traveling in our neck of the woods, living in Los Angeles, Van Nuys, Pasadena, and in Florida, where we've been living, while also giving us the detailed run down on today's specials. We decided to order the delicious clam with linguine, seafood fettuccine, ravioli and spaghetti with meat balls. One of us had the minestrone soup. I had a spoonful, it was tasty. Everyone was happy with their order, and enjoyed eating their respective dishes. Three of us ordered the desserts, including hazelnuts with a pistachio cream, chocolate mousse with dried raspberries and panne cotto with caramel (but no gold chocolate). The desserts were exceptionally tasty, and each of us tried a spoonful of the others' desserts just to try out. My photo of the chocolate mousse was too blurry, but my spoonful was very delicious. The parking is a little tight, like most streets in Rome if you have a car, but it's located near the buses as well. A taxi might be a good choice. If you're in Rome, do try and check out this cute Italian restaurant for a lunch or dinner meal, it's located just one block away from the Westin Excelsior, you will be happy you did.

    Grouper

Got the grouper and it was undercooked. I understand that you can still eat undercooked fish but it really just doesn't match when it feels like it's a medium rare steak.. My girl friend got the fettuccine prawn, tasted amazing but the prawns were over cooked. My gfs mom got the gnocchi muscles, I think that was my favorite dish. if you don't mind eating a bunch of potato noodles then you'll like it. Anyways I give it a 3 star. Food is mid and too expensive.

Stumbled on Tempio de Bacco. Amazing food. Amazing wine selection chris provided us some great insight on wines. Really love the white selections he suggested. Highly recommend this place.

The second place we ate for dinner in Roma. It had good recs so we checked it out and it did not disappoint. Very friendly staff, good English and able to answer questions and make recs. Nice little ristorante. Lots of other Americans in the room. Food was very good. I got steak with rocket (arugula) and Parmesan. Delicious, cooked well. Others got pasta and all were seasoned appropriately. Tiramisu was highly rated, by us, here too. A great combo of cream to lady finger to cocoa powder ratio.

The best pasta ever! The bacon was so crispy and thick, the sauce was sooo creamy and delicious. Big portions. Cute restaurant, outside seating or inside with AC. Workers were very nice and helpful. Great first meal here in Rome!

Superb Cacio e Pepe and Bruschetta. Owner was very welcoming and gave us a nice deal on a bottle of wine to share.

    Mushroom fettuccine. Very tasty

Strolling around Rome, we found this spot for lunch. What a win. Fantastic service and very delicious food. We sat outside and enjoyed the people around us. Thanks for a wonderful time.

Located about a 3 minute walk from Hotel Savoy, this restaurant did not disappoint. Came for an afternoon meal/lunch. We all ordered different drinks and meals and all were very happy and satisfied. I was torn between 2 dishes and ended up ordering the cacio e pepe. I have never had it, though I have seen it made on TV and videos several times. So good! Nice portion size. Inside/outside dining available. If outside, the sun can get intense. No umbrellas, so bring a hat.

    Tiramisu - creamy! Excellent!

Excellent atmosphere (quaint and cozy), phenomenal service and amazing food! Don't be surprised if they run out of your favorite dish if you come in late in the evening. They like to use fresh ingredients so if they run out - they run out. I came in around 9pm and they had served over 300 people today. FYI- Chris speaks really good English! So just go in and enjoy the experience - you will not regret it! I will definitely be returning! Prices are very reasonable!

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

Topped with some delicious mozzarella and black truffle made this appetizer and home run choice. This place was a treat. Yes, it's hot in the summer. Yes, it's crowded and popular. But also yes, the food makes it all worth it. I had the oxtail pasta at the recommendation of the waiter (and a couple Peronis to drink, ofc). This is slow cooked oxtail that just serves to bring even more flavor to the hearty tomato sauce, ladled over the aforementioned thick homemade pasta... and plenty of it. Served of course with fresh bread and regional olive oil and vinegar, what better? We actually had plenty of attentive service here, and it was honestly the only time a tip was ever mention in our whole time in Italy. This young man earned it. As I mentioned before, it's hot inside. There is air conditioning according to my eyes, but you couldn't feel it making any kind of difference between all the people, the kitchen, and the absolutely stifling temperatures of a Roman summer.

It is a large restaurant and was full of lively patrons. The indoor decor is warm and inviting. The first thing I noticed was the camaraderie between the waitstaff - everyone seemed to get along, helped each other and were having fun. We had 2 wonderful Filipino waiters. One had the same Ray-Ban meta glasses as my husband, which they bonded over. We ordered the bombolotti carbonara and lasagna-both delicious. For the mains, grilled Turbot (which was perfectly de-boned tableside) and meatballs w/ mashed potatoes. While the waiter was de-boning the fish, the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver came on overhead. My husband and I both looked at each other and smiled, thinking WTH?! I asked the waiter, "did we tell you we were from West Virginia?" and he smiled and shook his head. But later confessed, he played it for us (I guess we did tell him, lol). It made our night. Rome was the last city in our multi-city 12 day tour and we loved every minute but we were looking forward to going home. Hearing "Country Roads" at a popular and busy restaurant a block away from the Spanish Steps blew our minds. A young couple sat next to us for a quick snack, I asked her what she ordered (it looked delicious) and she said "Im from a different part of Italy but come here just for their artichokes". A few minutes later, I saw a plate full of artichokes pass by, being brought to a table outside. They made my mouth water. Al 34 was one of our favorite restaurants in Italy -- wonderful food (extensive menu), very lively with a mixed crowd (lots of Asians, English speakers and native Italians). It is a fun place to go and the wait staff is one of the reasons I will be coming back. I cant wait to try their artichokes! If you see the word, carciofo (artichoke), order it!
