Classic Mexican restaurant with very authentic dishes served by the best people. My server, Mitch, was very attentive, helpful, and very friendly. Big tip for him. So. Here are my thoughts. I've been coming here for YEARS. and I absolutely think the food is outstanding. We do a lot of takeout. The service is fabulous. I have no complaints and only the utmost compliments on the servers! But I just want to gut this place and redo it. The ambiance is so old, outdated and not so clean. That's your down fall. The carpet is so old. I think it's over 20 years old. But don't get me wrong. Food is the best. Just think you need a makeover! I am your biggest fan!!! When I read some of these reviews I scratch my head. Maybe it's because I moved here from Chicago 30 years ago so I've had authentic Mexican food. This isn't it. The only thing that I found very good is the tiny bowl of salsa that is on the table before I ordered. There's too much to go into. I will mention that I had to ask our server if they had a spicy salsa for my tacos and she gave me a blank look and replied, "...we only have that (pointing at the salsa for the chips) and we just add hot sauce." The manager-owner will come to your table apparently IF you're a regular. I'm not The red snapper that my wife ordered was substandard. I noticed this evening that the Mexican options in my town are far too limited. I was craving some tacos. Not the kind of "tacos" that you'd find at the Taco Bell Drive-Thru drowning in cheese and sour cream, but the authentic Mexican variety with lots of chopped raw onions, cilantro and salsa - nom nom nom. I guess that I could have had this made at any Mexican restaurant, but La Siesta is the one place that had the closest thing already listed on their menu. We each went with 3 of the Tacos Rancheros, which were steak, salsa verde, raw onions, and cilantro on a corn tortilla. The tacos were really good in that the steak was tender and not fatty as you sometimes find. These tacos took me back to the perfect tacos I had in Vegas back in January at Asada Tacos on Fremont Street. My only complaint was that I prefer a lot more raw onions -- so next time I will ask for extra. (My other favorite menu items at La Siesta include their seafood chimichangas, the cheese & chorizo appetizer and their enchiladas.) Although the food was perfectly delicious, my experience ordering was a bit of a cluster. I called in my order for carry-out and the girl taking the order was super confused. It could have been a language barrier or it could have been the fact that I have a slight lisp thanks to my braces. Either way, I was extremely grateful when someone else called me back about 5 minutes later to ask what it was I wanted. I prefer having to give my order again then get all the way home and it be wrong and my night ruined. La Siesta still has my vote for the best Mexican food in town! read more

They put some work on the outside of the building but the inside needs some work. The name is La Siesta and I think they're taking a siesta in the kitchen. The restaurant is chilly during the winter months. Food was so-so. Guacamole was terrible it had no flavor and no spice. I think they must add sour cream to it. My first time here, I went with 4 tacos (two ground beef, two chicken), refried beans with rice, and a platinum marg to was things down. Food was awesome and the hot sauce they provided was hot as hell and delicious. My only gripe with this place at that time was the cleanliness. Maybe I just missed rush hour, they were under staffed, or it was near closing time, but I feel that up keep and cleaning should always be a priority. This is my favorite restaurant in the Kankakee area. Good food, margaritas and fun. The prices are fair. This place can get a little loud on weekend nights so if you are the kind of person that doesn't enjoy that sort of ambience, do the rest of us a favor and stay home. Horrible customer service! Tried to place a take out order and the man working the phone was EXTREMELY rude to me. Very short and basically hung up on me twice! Then when went to pick up he hadn't even put the order in. He was actually surprised we came in the pick it up. Assuming because he knew how rude he had been. I ordered a fajita chicken salad and it came out with cold peppers and onions which I thought was...different for a menu item with "fajita" in the name. The chicken was also cold. It wasn't what I was expecting or particularly what I wanted but I ate it anyway and it was satisfying. Not a huge deal but the owner was having a very loud conversation about what is "wrong with youths these days" and also conversations about crime in Chicago with a couple sitting at a booth. I was sitting directly behind the people in the booth that he was having these conversations with. He did apologize and I said I didn't mind - which I didn't, really, it was pretty entertaining. I love them... love, love, love them! I also love their salsa. I like spicy but La Siesta's is mild and I could honestly put it on everything. Prices are reasonable, free chips with meal, service is good. Probably the best Mexican food in the area. It was a bummer to read on the menu, though, that there aren't free refills. That was disappointing. The food is good and comes in really big portions. This place is good times... Let's say this: The walls are painting obnoxious colors. La siesta has a few dishes that I love to death. You can't make a bad decision on their menu, but I highly recommend sombrero tacos, chicken or steak estrella, and when you are sick get the chicken soup. It's hot, spicy and served with limes. The atmosphere of this place seems to have diminished as of late.. Seems the past few times we have been here the floors and tables are significantly dirty. None the less the food has always been delicious. They have white queso dip which is a rarity. Also they offer a wide selection of flavors in margaritas including grape and "blue". So I've lived in Bradley my entire life and had never eaten at La Siesta until the other day. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. I got the siesta burrito (I think that's what it was called) and it was SO MUCH FOOD. I only ate like half of it. Their frozen mango margarita was super delicious, also, so make sure you order one. Worst case of food poisoning I've ever experienced in my life! There were six people at our table and four of us ordered something with chicken. All four of us got violently ill. My illness lasted for five days. After calling the health department, I was told I'm not the only person to report this place, but for some reason they did very little about it. I had the chicken enchiladas suiza and they were very good. The salsa that comes with the chips is very oniony, so we got guacamole and cheese dip to go with our chips both of which were very good. Nothing special about the guacamole, but still good. The cheese dip is very rich so I'd recommend the smaller portion. My boyfriend got steak chilaquiles with egg even though they were not on the menu the waiter (possibly owner) hooked him up anyway. They were amazing and I would recommend them to anyone. This place was dirty! Very dirty!! The carpeting was filthy and had huge spill marks on it and it looks like it was coming apart. The benches were also broke and they had old vinyl tablecloths on some of the tables. The decor is not even average for a Mexican restaurant. The food is overpriced compared to some other Mexican restaurants in the area. The cashier was checking someone out at the counter while she had someone else on speakerphone, and it was a personal call! We eat out all the time, this place is not worth it! read more

Absolutely a waste of time. They serve a flavorless tomato sauce as a salsa and have no other option except to put in your own habanero sauce from what was on the side there. Then they use the same Bland tomato sauce on every meal. I got the enchiladas suizas and they had this same Bland tomato sauce on them. The whole meal was without flavor even the rice and beans. This is one of our family's favorite Mexican restaurants in the area. The kids love the unlimited chips and salsa. Mom lives the margaritas! The food comes out pretty fast and is absolutely wonderful. You will normally find one of the owners here all the time either assisting with the food prep or waiting tables. They're all very friendly and will surely have a good conversation with you if you get them started. If you're considering tacos, stop by here first instead of one of the fast food joints. They put chunks of potato in the taco meat and it adds a great flavor where you wouldn't normally expect to find it in a regular taco. read more

The food is ok. We found out when we got the check tho, that each tea/lemonade refill is charged full price as is any chips brought after the first basket. They also charged for any additional salsa they brought. A weekday dinner for two quickly added up to $60+. The food and service aren't good enough to justify the nickle n dime. read more

Food was ok. But the service was horrible and the place was dirty. Even the menus had food on them. Gross. I got the 4 tacos which were good but I asked for soda no ice got ice. Didn't complain, she comes back sets down a different soda down without ice and took the one I was drinking from. Could have just left it instead of wasting it. The limes were dry no juice in them at all. But I couldn't believe that there was as much food on the floors like there was as if someone had a food fight before we got there. read more

Been frequenting La Siesta for years. Good salty chips, medium heat salsa. They are an above average Mexican joint. Flavorful bistec a la mexicana, they aren't afraid to go very spicy with it if asked. Pollo jalisco is another standout dish. You can also just opt for tacos a la carte with a few different styles. Service has never let me down, Jorge (George) is one of the owners and a very nice guy. read more
