Really beautiful restarant on the inside. It doesn't look that great on the outside, but when you walk in, you'll see a vibrant and colorful traditional seating area. And the people are probably the nicest they can be. The staff was really excellent. The menu is extensive and they were also flexible when I needed to make an adjustment. I just think some of the flavors were fine. I think the beans look rich and flavorful, but there were just fine. It does not matter whether I come in at 11 AM when they open, or if I come in in the evening on a weekend. The service is amazing and very conscientious... I like to practice my Spanish here, but they speak English very well. My boyfriend and I normally split Fajito nachos. Today I am rolling solo and opted to get the shrimp cocktail, along with a lime soda and of course a margarita (because I'm fun like that) lol Fresh cilantro, lemon, lime, avocado, and onion, a wonderful sweet salsa and camarones, served with absorbing crackers --just like in Mexico. Food, service, and ambiance were great! The food was classic Mexican food you would find in any good restaurant. When you're seated you are served fresh chips and salsa roja. This was great because we were so hungry from a long day. The stars of the evening were the burrito with steak fajita inside and the horchata. Both tasted so fresh and delicious. The horchata was maybe the best I've had and I've been to a lot of places. It had the perfect amount of cinnamon and didn't taste at all artificial. The burrito was big enough for two meals so I saved it for lunch. I did not enjoy the beans... they were orange and tasted bland and not like I'm used to for pinto. The rice was ok. Horrible service. My boyfriend and I always had lunch at this place and it was fine. Today, we had a rude server, he gave us the wrong order and said he couldn't change anything about it and then when he offered to give us rice, he overcharged us for it. Family owned Mexican restaurant with friendly staff and atmosphere. They have also remodeled the restaurant recently and it looks amazing (looked great before the remodel as well). This is a go to place to eat when me and my family are out and about. The food is flavorful, with good size portions, and the menu items are well priced. Plus, free chips and salsa! This is one of the few Mexican restaurants that I feel comfortable taking my daughter to eat at with her dairy allergy (severe). I have been going here for years. The transformation is just amazing. They reinvest in the restaurant on a continual basis and it shows. I loved the carved wood raised relief scenic booths and the overall warmth of the decor. The food's amazing. I always order the fajitas portions are large. Quite a value for your money. I love it here! My hubby and i eat here once a week between work and our Thursday night Scout meeting. We live a bit of a distance away and running back into kankakee wouldn't allow any time to sit down and eat. Everything we've had here is very good. The service is great, the food comes quickly and i can't say enough good things about this place. I have something different every week, usually whatever the special is, and my hubby has the Burrito Grande. The food is consistently good and made fresh to order. We decided to try this place because of some reviews. So disappointing. Chips tasted store bought. As did the salsa. Ordered a combo plate - enchilada, chili relleno, and a chicken chalupa. The enchilada had a brown sauce on it. It looked like mole- had to check with the waiter. The chalupa had loads of refried beans with so little chicken I had to search for it. But the worst was the chili relleno. It was filled with ground meat. Like sloppy joe meat. Needless to say only the enchilada was eaten after sauce was scraped off. My husband ordered enchiladas also, with the same brown sauce. When we went to pay the bill - the owner/manager asked how everything was. My husband told her of our concerns and lack of eating what was served. She said that they do get complaints on the chili rellenos - next time she'll have Martin serve us - like that would change the quality of food. She did not even take one dollar off of the bill. I had enchiladas seafood and a elpastor pork taco. My wife had steak enchiladas and tacos. I also had flan. It was the best I ever had. By the way, we passed by the restaurant when looking for it. Popped in on my way back to champaign urbana and had a good feeling about the place. After the nav had me circling micky D's three times I found it! To the south I spotted a ladder and some flags and a paint bucket. No sign just yet but I knew this must be the place along side a hair cutting place. I entered to a very roomy nice looking space with a bar near the back. Being by myself I moseyed on up. Had a seat and perused the tequila selection on the back wall. I chose a frosty cold sol cerveza and a shot of don Julio. I decided to try a tamale and a combo taco with chorizo and carnitas. Super tasty and I will be returning. I've lived in Cozumel for over two weeks and there's nothing on this menu that is native to that Island or even the region. Even the art and decor is from a different region in Mexico not from Quintana Roo. This place is just your standard midwest Mexican restaurant. Not much seafood flare or exotic options available here. The food they do have is bland and unappealing visually. Went with a large group one time and it was an absolute mess like.
