I am very unhappy with my order I received today for la Taquisa. I ordered two tacos and only got one and it was filled with onions which I can't eat due to an allergy. All the toppings you find in a taco were separate and you have to pay for each individually. It was my first time trying them and I don't know if I will try them again.

Atmosphere here was very nice and the decoration and setup within does give a Latin feel to it. The menu is easy to understand and the food come out pretty fast. The portion sizes are good for a taco place. The fish taco options were my personal favorites.

    3 delish tacos!!

My belly is full of absolute goodness and my tastebuds are still tingling from the barbacoa beef, chicken tinga and pork carnitas!!!! This was the best lunch break I've had in awhile!! Thank you @lataqueria for indulging me with the yummiest tacos I have ever had! Service was outstanding and everyone was friendly beyond belief add in that the establishment was impeccably clean, well I am your new fan! I will be back within 72 hours

Two meat, two veggie combo. Clockwise from top right - Mole, el pastor hongos con kale and calabacitas.

I haven't eaten at any other taco places in Victoria primarily because if they're this quality I don't want to. I really really hope for the local people that the other places are better. We were walking by looking for lunch and decided to pop in. However, we decided to just order two veggie and two meat tacos to see how good they were instead of ordering our entire lunch and glad we did! The POLLO CON MOLE taco was actually OK - it was a solid 3 star taco. The taco EL PASTOR was odd - bland pork with cold pineapple on top. It sort of looks right but doesn't taste right. They got worse after this.. CALABACITAS - not bad, HONGOS CON KALE - just weird. Kale on a taco? Really? The manager micro-managed the employees while we were there. There were as many employees as there were customers and he was busy telling them what to do. As far as the previous reviewer that said - "Authentic, Fast, Affordable and So Good!!" - you're right on 2 out of the 4 - Fast and Affordable. There's nothing authentic about this place. My recommendations, keep on going. Maybe try the other places to see if they're better. I can't say from experience because I stopped eating Mexican food in Victoria after this.

This place is my favourite taco shop on the island and one of my favourites back at home in Vancouver. Friendly and efficient service, and no complaints even when you walk in 10 minutes before closing. Their tacos are more of a bite sized nature so I can usually have about 5-6. The beef cheek is my absolute favourite, then beef tongue (lengua), mushroom, ahi tuna (extra cost) and then chicken (pico de gallo). The mushroom one is a little sour which is probably why it is lower on my list, but still good. You may even catch it on special like I did if you look for it on the small chalkboard beside the cashier; otherwise the menu is on the wall in huge lettering. I love the teal decor, painted graphics and tile flooring. Makes a cute casual date spot and reminds me of my time in Mexico and Guatemala.

Good food although the portions were small for the price. Minimalist interior, cold enough to keep our coats on inside.

Looking forward to a nice chicken burrito. 90% beans and rice, paired with a sliver of chicken. Very weak.

The best tacos in town, without a doubt. Vegan friendly and I'd argue the bean tacos rival any meat tacos.

I booked a same-day reservation on OpenTable which had a pretty hefty deposit of $70pp (so $140 for…read morea party of two). They had plenty of reservations available. If you showed up without a reservation, you might have to wait for them to clean off a table, but didn't seem like anyone was waiting outside for over ten minutes. What they DON'T tell you in OpenTable: your deposit is applied to your bill but any remaining balance is given back as a GIFT CARD. This is clearly a restaurant choice, not an OpenTable policy. If you are a party of two looking to splurge, you can probably hit $140 without trying too hard (if you get two entrees, three appetizers, a dessert, and either apply the rest for tip or take a $15 jar of mole home). But I do think it's deceptive for Maiiz to have this policy without clearly noting it on OpenTable, especially since the likelihood you're coming as a tourist seems pretty high. Foodwise, everything was fine, I shouldn't judge the flavors against what I could find in CA. I was here as a tourist, and while I wouldn't come back here again, I wasn't upset about my dinner experience and it did provide a nicer dinner ambiance and zero wait. We ordered the duck confit tacos (the server said this was their top dish but it was NOT good, pretty dry and very small), beef barbacoa quesadila (pretty lacking in cheese, not as juicy as I'd like, but it was better than the duck confit), esquites (lime-forward which I like), butternut squash sopecito (just ok), one tuna tostada (very good!), and the cornbread (also very good!). That looks like a lot but we (two females) went home feeling satisfyingly full, with a leftover box of two tacos and one quesadilla. The only other quibble is that their menus are on ipads which are annoyingly laggy.

OK, let's start with the positives. We loved our waitress! She was friendly and knowledgeable and…read moretotally on it. Also, my husband had just about the best margarita he's ever tasted. I took a drink of it and it was indeed incredible. Five stars for the drink. We ate outdoors and it was lovely. Now for the reasons behind the three stars: the food. As much as I wanted to love it, it was not very good. I love the concept of the restaurant and really wished the food had been more palatable. The barbacoa was over salted and barely tolerable. It also lacked flavor. I was happy to find a gluten-free place with good masa, but almost everything is made from it so it becomes overwhelming and unappreciated. I ordered the Chilaquiles with both green and red sauce; both salsas were underwhelming. My husband ordered the posole also with barbacoa which unfortunately made his dish over salted as well. Overall, we would never choose to eat here again and wonder if it is a tourist trap as it is located in Chinatown.
