We ordered a fish taco and churro to go as we only had time for a quick bite. So happy we did and I would certainly return again. Everything about the taco tasted fresh from the battered fish to the texture of the soft taco. The churro was even better. I don't know if I've actually had a better churro. I ate lunch here yesterday and it was about 3 star experience. I took my wife here today and it was hardly a one star. The service was terrible. The hostess was a smart "a..." I ordered two tacos which were ok but the chips were burnt and tasted terrible. On our way out we notice several abandoned tables on which the chips were not eaten so our experience was not unique. We order two draft beers but received bottled beer which was $4 more than the happy hour draft price. So at the end of our happy hour dinner the bill was over $30. We use to love coming to Victoria but since Covid the city has become rigid and uptight. I don't see us returning any time soon. So disappointed!!! read more

I haven't eaten at any other taco places in Victoria primarily because if they're this quality I don't want to. I really really hope for the local people that the other places are better. We were walking by looking for lunch and decided to pop in. However, we decided to just order two veggie and two meat tacos to see how good they were instead of ordering our entire lunch and glad we did! The POLLO CON MOLE taco was actually OK - it was a solid 3 star taco. The taco EL PASTOR was odd - bland pork with cold pineapple on top. It sort of looks right but doesn't taste right. They got worse after this.. CALABACITAS - not bad, HONGOS CON KALE - just weird. Kale on a taco? Really? The manager micro-managed the employees while we were there. There were as many employees as there were customers and he was busy telling them what to do. As far as the previous reviewer that said - "Authentic, Fast, Affordable and So Good!!" - you're right on 2 out of the 4 - Fast and Affordable. There's nothing authentic about this place. My recommendations, keep on going. Maybe try the other places to see if they're better. I can't say from experience because I stopped eating Mexican food in Victoria after this. read more

This place is my favourite taco shop on the island and one of my favourites back at home in Vancouver. Friendly and efficient service, and no complaints even when you walk in 10 minutes before closing. Their tacos are more of a bite sized nature so I can usually have about 5-6. The beef cheek is my absolute favourite, then beef tongue (lengua), mushroom, ahi tuna (extra cost) and then chicken (pico de gallo). The mushroom one is a little sour which is probably why it is lower on my list, but still good. You may even catch it on special like I did if you look for it on the small chalkboard beside the cashier; otherwise the menu is on the wall in huge lettering. I love the teal decor, painted graphics and tile flooring. Makes a cute casual date spot and reminds me of my time in Mexico and Guatemala. read more

Recently remodeled into a dim noisy expensive and unfulfilling experience. The food was delicious. But the portions were tiny and too expensive. Two tacos and a side of beans was $20 and left me hungry. May try the burrito next time, if there is one. The paint, omg! What were they thinking? It's dim and dark, even on a bright sunny day. I was visiting vanada for a few days and had not had mexican food for awhile. I decided i wanted a good taco. I love steak tacos. When i arrived at the place i thought it looked really cute. I liked the music playing. I liked the decor and i liked the smell of the food. When i finally orderd i got the steak taco. With just the carne asada and cheese. I really just wanted a basic taco. After all i am picky. To help wash them down i got a jarritos to go with it. My favourite soda. When the tacos came to the table ti realized that they were pretty small. But there were 2 of them. So i just chowed down. They were really good. The meat was super juicy to the point where it was falling out onto my lap, but who cares if they are really good right? The sprinkled cheese went really well with it too. Did i mention that you have to order the cheese on the side? I horked the taco doen in a few bites the had a sip of soda. Then i horked the other one down. My tacos were so good that i had to order another one. Anyways i really like this place and i would reccomend it to anyone. There were not specified in the wall menu either. After leaving and driving too far away to return downtown and park, I realized after one bite that it was smothered with raw onion. We've passed by this place on full bellies a bunch of times, but finally went by when hungry. Simple concept, menu up on the wall and you go to the counter, tell them what you want, pay, sit down and they bring it to you. Easy!! I was skeptical at first because I'm a bit of a picky eater. The menu has beef tongue and beef cheeks on it, I wasn't stoked for that. They had straight up steak too, thankfully. They have chicken as well but it's mixed with sausage and I don't like sausage. Anyway, I panicked and ordered 3 of the non tongue & cheek Asada beef tacos and a chicken & sausage taco ( I decided to be brave). My hubby ordered a variety because he's much more brave than me. Anyhoo, they offer 4 types of salsa to add yourself including a spicy habanero salsa. It turns out the beef tacos were super delicious. I loved them and I loved the habanero salsa. I didn't like the chicken & sausage one as much, but that's no surprise. My hubby loved all of his tacos. They come on small, round proper taco wraps, very tasty and authentic. We got a better look at the menu after and saw that there are also some delicious looking veggie tacos to try. While we were eating, we were already discussing when we would come back for more. The staff are super friendly and upbeat. They told us about their beer and taco deals on certain days of the week. We will definitely be back for that sometime soon. I don't even like fish. But damn those Baja fish tacos are what dreams are made of. For about a year I would walk by this place wanting to go in but not enough to actually do it. but one fateful day last week I did and I'm sooooo glad I did. The menu has something for everyone. I tried a few of the smaller tacos and they are very yummy but I mean it's a taco. I wouldn't say the smaller tacos are mind blowing but they are very yummy. The Baja fish taco, however, was life changing. The flavors and combination of the hot, crispy, savoury fish to cool, spicey salsa is perfect. the fish has just the right amount of crispness to make your mouth water. The location is great, just a few blocks from downtown Vic and the atmosphere is fun and inviting. Music plays over a very open concept with plenty of seating. It is high seating so not recommended for those with mobility issues (as the tables are high) or little ones and it's again quite high off the ground. If you are craving an authentic taco please give this place a try, you will not be disappointed. read more

Very good tacos. Fish tacos are crispy and flavourful with the right balance of sauce and slaw. The sauce selection varies from mild to hot and made in house along with traditional style tortillas. This is tacos in the style of Mexican street food and different than Tacofino across the street which are Baja West Coast style so no comparison.
