I'm not big on seafood, so finding an open alternative to seafood on the wharf on a random weekday during non-peak season was a bit of a challenge. This place basically ended up being the only real food option aside from dessert spots. I ordered barbacoa tacos and they were actually very good! I'm from Los Angeles, so I was a little hesitant to order Tacos because I didn't want to be disappointed, but I couldn't have been more wrong. They were very flavorful and the tacos were stuffed full of meat, topped with onion and cilantro with a spicy red chili salsa on the side. The service was great too, they were very friendly and my order was ready promptly. Definitely a good option while waiting for a tour. read more

It wasn't busy. This is located within the courtyard of Uptown. Lots of people walking, kids playing, water fountain nearby to cool down on those hot summer days. I ordered the Carne Asada Tacos. It tastes like genuine Mexican tacos and tortillas. The steak tastes good well done, even better with hot sauce. It says on the menu its on large tortilla tacos but I guess its a relative word. Looks small to me. A little on the expensive side for this reason $16 and change for three tacos. Most items on the menu is approaching the $20 price. There's plenty of patio chairs outside. This is more like a permanent stall rather than a full restaurant. Parking for the whole plaza is underground and it's free. read more

The warf is a cute spot to stop with multiple choices of places to eat. Great if you have a family who all want something different. Imagine food truck lot but floating. Pretty cool! Outdoor seating. You are one with the elements, so plan accordingly. I grabbed baja fish tacos and mango salmon tacos. This is the best Tacos I have had in Canada. I am a tourist in Victoria. I love Seafoods and I believe Victoria has good seafood dishes. Then I went to Fisherman's wharf. Then I tried Puerto Vallarta Amigos. I ordered Salmon Mango Tacos and they were delicious. Salmon was big. Mexican restaurants in Toronto rarely give us such a big piece of fish! It is amazing. The CUTEST restaurant on the dock of Fisherman's Wharf. I immediately fell in love with this place because of the fun colours and the inviting patio. And yes, the food lives up to the expectations too. This is an authentic Mexican restaurant, owners and workers are all Mexican, you won't get any of that "Tex-mex" stuff. Tortilla soup was alittle bit too thick for what I'm used to but still packed with flavour. I was very pleased with the enchiladas I ordered, nothing was missing any flavour for me. I can't speak for the Esquite because I have an egg allergy and it came with mayo but I did take a bite of the corn niblets and I still liked what I tasted! read more

I went on Cinco de Mayo and it was busy. The news was there, which is the only reason I didn't complain and ask for my $20 back. I got a salmon burrito with guacamole and chips and the salmon was bad - still had the skin on which was slimy and fishy. After a few bites and unwrapping it completely to find the weird smell, I realized the tortilla was moldy. Green, fuzzy mould at the bottom of the tortilla that I would have seen immediately had I opened the other end of the wrapping. The guacamole was so old the onions had ceased to be purple anymore. And I got 6 chips, which also seemed stale. I had two bites of the burrito, half a chip and I threw the entire thing in the garbage. I won't be going back. Barbs, 10 feet away, is still consistently delicious after years of operation. Go there instead. read more

For the price, you can't get a bigger portion of food anywhere nearby. The food is delicious too! We split their "salad with your choice of meat". It came with a salad of lettuce, tomato, onion and a green salsa dressing, refried beans, 4 corn tortillas, and we went with shredded beef. The meat was super tender and bursting with flavor. This place offers water cups for free ice water and has a nice Coke machine right outside. It's great for filling up water bottles too on a hot day. Our food came out in about 10 minutes. The restaurant is right next to a huge white tent with tons of picnic tables underneath, perfect rain or shine. Great views!! There were 6 different types you could choose from. All of our tacos were good. The pork had a unique flavor to them. The beef barbacoa tacos were my favorite. This place is not great. We got their baja fish tacos, crispy tostada with beef, and shrimp quesadilla. Overall, everything we got was very bland and had no flavour. When we got the food, it looked like it was going to taste amazing, but really, I have no other words other bland and boring! The shrimp quesadilla was by far the worst. It was literally shrimp and melted marble cheese in between two pieces of tortilla, like what the heck?! I could've made that myself at home. It didn't realize it didn't even come with sour cream and salsa and if we wanted those, we'd have to pay extra. What kind of quesadilla doesn't come with sour cream and salsa as a part of the meal?! This was hands down the worst meal. Other than the view and getting to sit by the water, the food was terrible, that the view didn't even make up for it. Would not recommend. read more

Puerto Vallarta Amigos opened about a year ago and it just continues getting better. This truck is the only place you can get a torta in Victoria. The buns they use are fresh and good - they tend to be spongier than the ones used in the trucks in SF. They also have a number of specials to look out for. One Friday, they made a fantastically rich and flavourful Pozole (a stew with hominy, pork, garlic, and a number of other herbs) As the owners of the truck are Hindus (I think) from Puerto Vallarta, they do not serve Burritos (a California invention), but they offer a number of vegetarian fillings, including Soy Chorizo, Beans and Cheese, and a Potato/Spinach combo. The pre-made tortillas they use for the tacos and quesadillas pale in comparison to the fresh, homemade ones at La Taquisa or Hernande'z, but they also enable you to get your food in less than 5 minutes instead of about 20. read more

My wife and I just finished an order of fish tacos, prawn tacos, and chips with guacamole. I'm going to keep this short: by far, hands down, the worst tacos I have ever had in my life. Not just the worst fish tacos, tacos in general. Stale corn tortillas that fell apart, little to NO fish in the tacos, and a gross mayonnaise-like house sauce that was a single glob on top. This is a surprising little place. I guess it is quite unfortunate to be besides two famous fish-and-chip places, so this little gem gets neglected. I happened to not wanting fried food that day, and decided to opt for something along the line of "shrimp diablo". The staff are very friendly. Food was delicious!! The shrimps were huge and fresh, and the tomato-based soup base tasted fresh and flavorful. I saw the kitchen staff punching fresh tomato on the spot, and I am guessing they were making tomato sauce! Oh my gosh! This place as so tasty! It's been a couple weeks since my visit but I'm still thinking about the delicious burrito I had here. First off, I was impressed with how many veggie choices they offer. Their menu is pretty short to begin with so the fact that I could choose means a lot. Afte rmuch deliberating, I settled on a burrito stuffed with soy chorizo, rice, beans, and cheese. It was outstanding! I don't know how I managed to eat the whole thing as the portions are huge, but somehow I managed. Since we were visiting in December, there wasn't any outdoor seating available. The only options were to eat in the houseboat or take our food to go. My friend and I opted for the former. It was a pretty windy day so we were definitely moving around a bit. I don't usually get motion sickness but I was definitely feeling a bit queasy before our food arrived. Definitely not the fault of the owners, but good for people to know ahead of time. I definitely plan on coming back the next time I'm in Victoria. Hopefully I can make it in the summer and see how it is on a busy day. read more

Stop at the taco van at Yates and Wharf for a quick lunch, and a good place to eat solo al fresco and watch the tourists go by . . . . It's a certain fair weather craving; this is my third visit in two years. I always get the 6 taco mix ($7.50 - seems expensive for the size/quantity, I know). The tacos are palm-sized, soft corn tortillas topped with a couple of tablespoons of filling (choice of six), topped with chopped white onion and cilantro. The variety and quality of the six fillings is the attraction. Green and red hot sauces available if you want to add some heat. The only thing is that while they are fresh and tasty, they may not be filling enough if you are really hungry. Pops (soda) in the can for $2.00. Light lunch for under $10, and you can practice your Spanish on the friendly staff. Viva Mexico! read more

We went to the wharf and decided to try this Mexican food over the two fish and chip places right next door. I orders the Baja fish tacos and my wife ordered the salmon burrito. After one bite we were disgusted with the over cooked salmon that must have been reheated or old and frozen. There was no flavour what so ever and the meat was so dry you could barely swallow. We immediately took our meals back to the counter and got a refund. The customer after us was waiting for 15 minutes for his food but they forgot his order - after seeing us return our food he told them to refund his money as well. Went to the Fisherman's Wharf location with some friends and... it was OK. The portions were large for the price (we had the Baja Tacos), but the flavor -- even with a generous amount of their sauce -- was bland. The salsa was pretty good and would have kicked up the tacos. But they were already pretty loaded, and I didn't want a mess on my hands. I'd say the best part of the experience was the location (on a houseboat) and the environment (happy, upbeat, beautiful late-August evening). I visited their newly opened location at Fisherman`s Wharf this weekend and the food was a excellent as ever. Victoria's first taco truck! I just moved up to VIctoria from California and was stoked to see that Victoria's got its very own taco truck. The shiny exterior and spotlessly clean interior had me convinced it wasn't going to match up to the killer food that comes out of the dirty, run down taco trucks I'm used to in California. But the shredded pork tacos were to die for, and at only $1.25 a piece, or 6 for $6 they were a bargain. They've even got vegetarian options, tortas, and on Tuesdays serve up a rockin bowl of tortilla soup. This place is a must! read more
