Located on Sugar Road in between the entrance to Walmart and the Golden Chick, La Taquiza offers a variety of authentic Mexican tacos and loaded baked potatoes. There are wooden booths lined up on the right as you enter, as well as a number of tables and chairs in the dining room, which is large enough to accommodate families or groups. Bright colors of yellow and red on the walls and Mexican paper cut out (papel picado) brighten up the ceiling. You can order at the front or take a seat, and one of their servers will take your order. This evening, their servers were friendly, attentive, and fast.. I ordered at the counter. Once at my table, I was brought some frijoles preparados and my drink. They had several aguas frescas (limonada, horchata, and jamaica), and I chose the limonada, which was well-made, not too strong, nor too tart, nor too sweet. My RB tacos arrived promptly. They are bistek, avocado, and cheese on freshly made corn tortillas, served with grilled onions and cilantro on the side. An order was five tacos, which were well stuffed. There were two salsas from which to choose: a mild green salsa and a spicy red one. I put some of both on my tacos and enjoyed it. The food is delicious. The service was great. The prices were a bit high considering what other taco places offer, but the quality was good. The only thing I didn't care for was the style of music, norteño style música de banda, which was just loud enough to make a conversation a chore. I would have preferred a softer jaliciense style mariachi, but that's a personal preference. There is a sink at the end of a hall where you can wash your hands, but there were no paper towels in the dispenser. I looked in the men's restroom and could not see any paper towels there either. What was more serious is there was no toilet paper! Perhaps, like in some restaurants in Mexico, you have to ask for some at the counter? Or maybe I caught them at a bad time. There is plenty of parking in the private parking lot, which is shared with a few other businesses. Overall, I enjoyed it, and I think you will too. Awesome tacos! Super good and full of meat. The Porfirio style with the double mini corn tortillas dipped in oil is how I prefer them and they sure know how to do them here. The meat is tender and flavorful without being all fatty or stringy. The Garras de oso tacos were a wonderful, delicious surprise! Two homemade corn tortillas filled with a meat and cheese stuffed jalapeño. Can't wait to try the rest of their tacos. We realized that if we took the 2nd tortilla off the mini tacos, we could have made 5 more with the filling of the giant tacos. You actually could use a fork to eat those! Overall, great tacos. And they cater too. Edit: Tried an order of the Porfirio style RB tacos with cheese and avocado and boy am I in love! So delicious. The taco was a little dry. We went around 3-4 pm, but we were the only customers there. The decor is a little old. The waiters spoke mostly Spanish. Overall just ok. The price was low though, so I guess it's still a fair deal. read more

Man I don't even know where to begin! As always I was in town for work, seen this place pop up on Yelp, so popped in for lunch and my goodness I was left speechless! I decided to get their combo number 2 it had three tacos, papa, beans and a coke. Everything was delicious, the tacos were on freshly made tortillas which I really appreciate. The potato was creamy with the cheese and the beans....out of this world! I wish I could have finished my plate, but sadly couldn't fit anymore in my belly. Next time I'll just get a bunch of tacos because they were to die for! With all the queso fresco, avocado, cilantro and grilled onions on the side. I'm still speechless.... read more

Tacos RB: RB means Rio Bravo. The tacos have avocado and queso fresco. The bistek is made on the grill and NOT boiled, like other places. Overall, you taste seasoned beef not boiled junk. Potato w/ combo: the potato is not the highlight but it is tasty. The servers are attentive and paying is simple...at the cash register. Only bad: big parties, people love this place so get there early or you may not find seating during the lunch rush. read more

We had an apple soda and guacamole on the side. The city is full of great food and these are the best tacos in the area. If you have a chance go in you can t go wrong. The food is fresh, made to order and clearly an Authentic Mexican Family restaurant. The entire menu is Tacos, however the flavors are busting in every bite. I recommend the RB Tacos and a side of tostadas and guacamole. Wash it down with a Mexican Coke or Dr. P. The complimentary bean fajita soup is also fantastic. You won't be disappointed. Great, low key taco joint. They serve Charro beans for free as an appetizer. The crew was wonderful, informative and polite, they gave us more beans; we didn't even ask. I got a mixed order of the RB (fajita) and al pastor tacos. They were delicious, 5 tacos to the plate. The al pastor marinade was great. The fajitas tender. I'm used to cilantro with fresh onions but they serve grilled onions, a pleasant surprise I didn't mind at all. They would have given fresh if you had asked, when in Rome... This restaurant is amazing! The tacos are delicious! Definitely my favorite taqueria in Edinburgh! Another plus is that if you attend UTRGV it is located behind Walmart, less than five minutes away from the university. First off, the tacos are DELICIOUS! They have great deals going on for lunch time, where you can get a soda, tacos, and a potato for about 7.00 or less! The food is inexpensive and delicious. The tacos are packed with cheese, avocado, and comes on the side with onions, and cilantro. The potato is also delicious! Staff is great, very attentive and friendly. Our family has eaten here on a consistent basis for the past year and this is prob our fav place in the Valley. We love the beans that accompany each meal. We usually order the combo that comes with three tacos- w/onions, cilantro, cheese, and avocado, a cheesy baked potato, and a drink (we usual get a Mexican Coke) for $6.50-$7.50 depending on meat selection. It is a very simple minimal restaurant (which I never care about as long as the food is good). The service is great. It's located in a small quiet strip mall close to campus. I seriously would eat here multiple times a week if it was closer to my house. read more

The tacos here are really good but not the best place in upper valley. Coming from brownsville and traveling to Mexico often, I am particular about the quality and service in a taqueria. The salsas here are really good but I can't say ooou they're awesome and super spicy my mouth is numb. They, thankfully, do offer free tap water. They fill they're tacos up but I wouldn't say they're overflowing with meat like in some other places I've visited. However the location for students at UTRGV is convenient and they are one of the best you can get in the Edinburg area. The beans are not my taste and I wouldn't get the combo with the potato. The potato was nothing exceptional. But the complete tacos de bistek were quite satisfying :) would definitely visit again! read more

We came in with less than $20 in our pockets and walked out happy and full. The service was fast. We bought 2 of the Combo #1 for $6.50 each. That combo included half a potato (which might I add was so soft and creamy all the way!), 3 delicious tacos, beans, and a coke! It was definitely worth the price. Terrible service, got there, sat down at a table waited for 5min. Couple behind us got there and were served Immediately. Literally had to wave someone down. Ordered our food to go because we felt unwelcomed. I ordered the cucumber lemonade and he looked back to make sure they had, confirmed they had it, also added avocado to my order. We receive our food in a bag and it was wrapped like shit in foil. Went to pay and he added a dollar, I asked why and he started talking about 3 percent, I just said ok Bc it sounded so stupid and didn't want to argue it was just a dollar. Anyway, I get home and find out that they gave me regular lemonade and didn't give me the avocado I ordered on the side. Why lie about having the cucumber lemonade? Best place for tacos in the McAllen/Edinburg area, the tortillas are home made and are not dipped in oil like in most places. The meat is also not greasy and you don't run into chunks of fat in the meat like you do at your local taqueria Zarape. Me acabo de chingar una orden de tacos "RB". La Taquiza has the best tacos in town (Edinburg). Tortillas fresh and thick, not like the store bought variety you find at most taquerias around here. The place is always lit with the music blasting and there is never any judgment if you walk in solo to "get your taco on" on a Friday night. Try them out if you like good tacos..if not, go to the steadily declining Taqueria el Zarape down the street, and punch yourself in the nose while you're at it.
