Yikes! Our experience was actually quite good here. This was our first night in Brugges and this restaurant is in the busy square and close to our hotel. Our waiter was very polite and attentive. He even brought out blankets for us as we were sitting outside and it was getting a bit windy. I ordered the mulled wine. It hit the spot as I was freezing. It's not sweet but comes with a packet of sugar if you would like to sweeten it a bit and a speculous cookie. Hubby had the beef stew which was tender and moist. We also got a steak. It definitely needed salt and pepper as it was bland. However, the taste of the steak really comes through as there are no additional spices, rubs etc. My sister ordered the croquettes (shrimp; cheese). These were good but each order comes with 2 pieces around $15-18 Euros which is quite expensive. If you stop by, get the beer. They serve it to you in a unique tall glass. humored to read these reviews. went here to get out of a rainstorm and have a drink and a snack. everything people say is true... the "please pay cash," the rude attitude, the poor quality of food. the upcharges, the suggestion of largest beer sizes available as if to suggest the small on the menu are not even an option. the disappointment when the food order is not the overpriced entrees but a smaller sandwich and fries. the ketchup and mayo in packets (possibly a charge when they haphazardly rang up the bill with great frustration that I insisted on card, not the cash they tell you they want at the end). Where is the 0 star choice? The absolute worst restaurant I have ever been to. Not an exaggeration, the food was completely inedible. Ordered the pizza margherita and it was obviously frozen, no taste and the texture was rubbery. Salmon was old, very smelly and I can't even describe the taste or feel in the mouth, The pasta was gummy and luke warm and the Parmesan was sandy and rotten. There are no words to describe the depth of disgust, just awful. Left all 3 of our dishes with one bite and was forced to pay over 100 Euro. Felt nauseous for hours after. I don't even want to give this place a star... We were starving and the place looked inviting because of the fire place..The bill came out to be 59 EURO! I ordered ONE hot chocolate but he brought two...my husband drank it anyways thinking it wouldn't cost much.. WRONG! 12 euro total. We ordered two specials, one being fish and chips the other being beef stew. It took forever to come out and it was terrible. The fish was rock hard and the beef was inedible. 30 euro. I was dying of thirst and I knew the water would be expensive.. but not 6 euro expensive... Lastly, the waiter offered bread.. Shouldn't bread be free? Or at least tell you that there is a fee.. 11 euro for 4 pieces of bread!!!!!!!! The waiter wasn't nice or friendly. He sat at the bar talking to the bartender while a woman was choking on their beef stew.. I honestly thought she was going to die until the owner rushed over to help her. Do not come here. These people are dishonest. We ordered two cappuccinos (4€). They gave us a double with whip cream costing 9.5€ each. When the drinks came, I told them it's not what I ordered. They insisted that it's their version of cappuccino. The waffle was 9€ and was terrible. It was dried and burnt. 28€ for two coffee and a piece of toast. On top of that, the service was terrible. The old guy insisted that we sit in the corner with a table for two. He said the bigger tables are for four. It was a Tuesday night and no one was there. Not sure who he's saving the tables for. I wish I had thought to read the other reviews of this restaurant before picking it as a lunch stop. My experience was so similar to all the other poor reviews. We stopped here because I was looking for a simple lunch baguette in Grote Markt and they had one on the menu, and somehow we left with a 60 Euro bill. As Allison K. stated, Diet Coke was listed as 3 Euros on the menu, and when we got the bill it was 6 Euros. 6 Euros. This became a running joke for the rest of our vacation, it's so absurd to charge that much for fountain pop. My husband ordered the special of fish and chips, and the fish was pretty awful, mostly greasy batter and very little fish. When we asked for some mayo for the fries, we got a little plastic package - and an addition of 1.50 Euros to the bill. Our server did not seem interested in any polite conversation, or smiling for that matter, despite our efforts to engage him and ask him about Bruges. I will say that the baguette sandwich I ended up ordering was delicious, but it's pretty hard to mess up a baguette with ham, cheese and no other spreads or toppings. Stay away! Unethical practices used to over inflate the bill. The waiter uses tactics to make you think that certain food items are part of your order or are complimentary. They charge you for every little thing, including tartar sauce that should be included with fish and chips. How come this place is not closed down yet, given that everyone had the same experience? The food is very bad and very expensive and the servers trick you into buying extra sauces you don't know you're buying. If you order flemish beef stew, they recommend you take apple sauce with it, but they don't say that's 4 Euros more. They charge 17 Euros for 6 pieces of fried calamari and 2 more Euros for the tartar sauce that is supposed to go with it! They also recommend their "very good garlic bread", which is more like cheesy bread and it's not at all good. A medium beer is 11 Euros! Plus the server forgot to bring the fries that are supposed to come with the mussels! Do not go in here unless it's the last restaurant in the world and you would die of starvation otherwise! My wife, daughter, and I just ate here. We did not have nearly the poor experience others posters had. We found the service prompt and friendly enough. Like most of the places in the Market and in Bruges in general, a total rip off! BE EXTREMELY SPECIFIC in what you order. We asked for 2 hot chocolates, not 2 pots of hot chocolate (which were 2 euros more each), and they automatically upgraded ours to the more expensive. I ordered garlic toast for 4.5 euros, they automatically upgraded to cheese version for 5.5 euros. Ask for it to be fixed, comes back with barely any butter on these 4 skinny slices of bread. Eating giant tasteless croutons, total waste of money. Service was slow, they would take our order then just dick around for 10 minutes before even entering our drinks. When the bill came, they charged for cheese bread, the guy didn't want to correct it, said oh it's just 0.50 euro, and I made sure to tell him it was a dollar, and he begrudgingly said ok, then stood around as if waiting for a tip. Also took like 15 minutes to get a bill after asking, the dude just sat at bar talking to other waiter. Do not go here. I've been all over Europe and I've never had service this terrible. The food was only ok, and considering how average the food was the prices were astronomical. We were made to wait an amazingly long time and had to continually flag down the waiter to get questions answered and to try to get the next part of our meal. I understand that meals are generally longer affairs in this part of the world, but honestly this was abnormal. Our waiter kept saying things were on the way and when they finally came out looked like they had been sitting a long time. It started to feel intentional. My group finally decided that either the waiter hated us or maybe hated his job? Then to top it off we were over charged for our meal. For example, the menu listed a coke as 3 Euro and on the receipt we were charged 6 Euro (also the coke came out flat). They charged us for sauces to accompany our appetizers but when we ordered the sauces were offered to us as part of the appetizers. And to top it all off when we were complaining to the waiter and manager several other tables at the same time came up raising the same concerns. They tried to force us to pay in cash which may have been to avoid paying credit card fees? but along with the overcharging certainly made it feel like they were running some kind of racket or scheme to pocket money. I recommend not eating here unless you enjoy parting with more money than you'd planned for food you only partially enjoy. read more

After our 122€ bill came (4 adults and 2 kids), they claimed their machine was broken and they only took cash so we had to go find an ATM to pull out cash. Also, they tried to bring an extra pizza we didnt order (seems like other people have had issue with that) and charged 2€ per person for tartar sauce to go with the fish and chips!!
