My insurance company recently changed preferred labs from Lab Corps to Quest Diagnostics, and boy…read moream I lucky that Quest just opened up a location near me in Malta. Literally...the place was so new, I apparently walked in on them on their fifth day of business. I should mention that Google Maps hasn't yet gotten the hang of the Ellsworth Commons, because every time I go there, it gets very confused. Because of this, and because of Quest's new location, I kind of had a hard time finding the location, and ended up parking in an inconvenient side lot, and going in through their back entrance accidentally. If you go to this location, know that you should go through the roundabout, into the actual plaza, and I believe parking will be in front of Quest's storefront. Just FYI. So far, the place is very sterile and modern-looking. Everything is in white and lime green and spotless. Which is nice, but totally doesn't look like your standard lab. Another plus for this place, they accept appointments, which is sooooo AWESOME, after having sat what feels like hours waiting for a blood draw in a walk-in-only lab. You can make appointments online or by phone. However, a word of warning--I did make an appointment online, but did not print out my confirmation page. When I arrived for my appointment, the phlebotomist couldn't find any records, and had to then take me as a walk-in. I was initially annoyed and cranky about this (c'mon, I was fasting), but it was early in the morning, and there was only one person ahead of me, so it really wasn't too big of a deal. The phlebotomist was actually quite concerned as to why my appointment didn't register, so it was nice to hear that she actually cared that it didn't go through. But those are technical details they can sort out later, and I have no problem calling to confirm an appointment next time...because I actually GET to make an appointment. I should also mention that my veins flat-out suck. Like, drawing blood is sometimes like squeezing water out of stone. I have a nice rolling vein that likes to move when you try to penetrate it. I've got a bunch of superficial veins that won't give much blood. I've been poked so many times in both arms, my leg, and my hands, that I just am not surprised anymore, even when I'm superhydrated, when a phlebotomist or nurse just waves their hands in the air and has someone else come feel my arms. I don't know where this lady came from, but she was able to find a GOOD vein within a few minutes and some patience, and had no trouble getting the sample she needed pretty painlessly, and without the need for a butterfly needle. It was a miracle. For serious. I can't say that I'm ~looking forward to~ returning and having more needles stuck in me, but I WILL say that I am grateful my preferred lab is now one that (1) takes appointments, and (2) has experienced professionals who will TAP MAH VEINS...successfully.

Both Janice Wilkinson and Garrett Claremont earned five stars for their caring, positive, reassuring, patient-focused attitude which put me at ease and for their to-notch skill level. It's very difficult drawing my blood. Many fail. Garrett's skill level not only reflects his very extensive experience but that he has transcended to the level of the healing arts. You can't teach that. Got 8 vials from a tiny vessel on the top of my hand first try. Janice observed and picked up Garrett's lesson really fast and got ten vials from me the next day on the first try. A great team. Hardly any wait to get in and fast getting out. I highly recommend these wonderful pros.

Quest did not ask me for my information when I showed up. They said they had all my information from my doctor. But when the bill came they had my name wrong as well as my insurance company and information. They said the insurance company that they contacted did not have a customer with the name they provided (naturally as both were wrong) and I owed the full bill. I corrected my information and asked them to resubmit. They fixed my name but NOT my insurance information and so it was denied again. I have now submitted my insurance information with them multiple times online and on the phone (and it is VERY hard to get one of their representatives on the phone) and they keep resetting it back to the wrong information. I have spent hours on this. I am never, never, never getting a test done at quest again and recommend that you do not either.

The 2 ladies were clearly unhappy with their jobs or totally burned out. I see so many negatives and yet, St. Peters is doing NOTHING to change this. I hope never to return here. There are so many other blood draws. Dont come here. Ugh. Disgusted with St. Peters and Bender Labs. Shame on you!!!

They were loudly shouting back and forth from one end of the office to another. At first it was just pleasantries. Unprofessional, for sure, but I just wanted to get the blood draw done quickly. The younger employee began complaining about the codes that were listed on my blood draw order. She yelled to the other employee that the codes were incorrect and that "these doctors just don't care." Then she shouted my doctor's name, a well respected member of the medical community, and said "he should know better." I was shocked. The other employee asked her who the doctor was. She shouted his name even louder. The older employee then shouted "He's old. He should retire!" I was appalled at the lack of respect for a member of the medical community and for me, his patient. I had never experienced this type of unprofessionalism in a medical facility. I was going to retrieve the work order and leave when the younger employee called me in and said they were not going to be able to draw my blood because there were incorrect codes on the order. I took the order and quickly left the office. When I got home, I emailed Patient Experience at St. Peter's Partners. Within a half hour I received a response from the coordinator apologizing for what I experienced and assuring me that the incident was being referred to management and to Human Resources. A half hour later, I received a phone call from the woman who supervises all 14 St. Peter's labs. She reviewed the facts with me and then said she was on her way to have a discussion with these two employees. She said that this type of unprofessionalism would not be tolerated. She was appalled at the statement of my doctor being too old and should retire. I am grateful that St. Peter's responded quickly to this incident. Hopefully they will take action to make sure that no customer ever has to endure this type of unprofessionalism again. I appreciate their apologies, but I will never set foot in this lab again. And I had been a steady customer there since they opened. This is how you lose business.
