Laclede's Landing is an amazing place to visit and explore. Founded in 1764, this historic district marks the birthplace of St. Louis. During the 1800s, it became the city's manufacturing, warehousing, and shipping hub. Today, it is home to 17 historic buildings, many dating from the mid- to late-19th century, featuring beautiful Federal and Victorian architecture surrounded by charming cobblestone streets. Many of these historic buildings have been converted into loft apartments, making Laclede's Landing a vibrant residential neighborhood as well as a popular destination for visitors. There is also The Cobblestone STL, a unique space that brings together a boutique grocery market, deli, bar, coffee shop, and community gathering space. Worth a visit for the architecture alone. There are lots of interesting buildings and historical markers throughout the area.

Fun, hip, open area to explore, but it seemed like a ghost town when I was there. While navigating was a tad rough from the maze like streets, it still was quite enjoyable. The brick/cobblestone streets and buildings really brings back that authentic old school tough, which is awesome at least to me. This place I would assume is perfect for people watching as it seems like a party haven, just not the day I was there. While touted as somewhat of a Bourbon Street of St. Louis, I just did not see it the few times I visited, but then again it was September, maybe it picks up during the holidays? Either way, plenty of shopping and food for everyone, which is a plus I guess. I'd pass the next time I visit though, but just my two cents though. read more

I'm not sure what all the hate is about, maybe because I'm not from St. Louis and didn't know what the Landing was prior to recently, but oh well. My first experience here was a few years ago for my sisters Bachelorette party - we stayed at Lumiere and partied in the area. It was awesome. A couple weekends ago we did a beer festival. I will say, the Landing was pretty dead other than those drinking beer, but it was still beautiful. Right on the river, it seemed super clean, and had a GREAT dog park. There's a couple spots to eat, a couple spots to go out at night to. Honestly, I think it's a great spot and can't wait until it starts building up again! read more

Where St. Louis Began!   I have been to Laclede's Landing twice. The first time was in the summer of 1997. Back then when Mark McGuire was breaking home run records, Laclede's Landing was the Bourbon Street of St. Louis. The cobblestone streets were happening to the point that we could barely maneuver the car out of the district. Twenty years later, Laclede's Landing was a different story. The best way to describe it is comparing a rock star that was on top of the music business in the 1990s that 20 years later ended up washed up. In 2018, this historic district bounded by Interstate 44 to the west, Lumiere Casino to the north, Mississippi River to the east, and Gateway Arch National Park to the south was deserted. There were very few businesses open at the same time there were very few patrons.  Laclede's Landing has seen better days. And they are days rich in history that go back to 1763 when a French Merchant named Pierre Laclede Liguest had the inclination to build a trading post off the Mississippi. Years before the St. Louis Cardinals, the Gateway Arch, and BBQ restaurants this site was a 40 foot bluff covered in forests, prairies, and streams. In 1764, what was once pristine hiking country transitioned into something else. That something else was not a state park, camp ground, or preserve. Under Pierre Laclede Liguest it became the City of St. Louis, named after King Louis IX of France. Right here on what is today Laclede's Landing, the City of St. Louis was born when Laclede ordered his laborers to build a warehouse and cabins. That city would grow. As time went on, a large number of the 19th century buildings was torn up for the Jefferson Expansion Memorial which would become Gateway Arch National Park in 2018. Laclede's Landing is a 9 block remnant of historic 19th century Victorian and Federal architecture alongside cobblestone streets. It is the oldest district in St. Louis. This 22 acre district is so old, that the First Missouri Legislature met in the district's Missouri Hotel in 1820 to form a State Assembly and Senator. That was a year before Missouri became a state.  From my observations and reading into Laclede's Landing, I feel that it should showcased as a restoration--living village museum in similar style to the Mystic Seaport Museum and Old Bethpage (NY) Restoration. Below are some of the historic buildings with the date it was built and facts:  Schoelhorn-Albrecht Building    * Built before 1844.    * Beneath is a cellar room that was used to      hide runaway slaves. Hoffman Brothers Produce Building    *Built in 1883    *Interesting brick exterior. Reader Place Building   *Built in 1873   *Site of the Missouri Hotel First Street Ironworks   *Built in 1881   *Where the last machine shops were here. Cherrick Building.  *Built in 1890.  *3 story Federal style architecture. Morgan Landing Building.  *Built in 1905.  *It has housed a saloon for more than 130 years. * Currently the Morgan Street Brewery.  There are many more preserved buildings dating back to the 1800s and early 1900s. For further information on these buildings, I highly recommend going to the official Laclede's Landing website then once there to "architecture" This is the website:  http://lacledeslanding.com/lacledes-landing-architecture/  Unfortunately, the deserted condition of today spoils the atmosphere. With minimal police and security presence my eyes were more on my surroundings than on the architecture. With that said, I would not recommend parking here. Instead I recommend one of the parking lots near Busch Stadium. To make a long story short, it was really a transition zone between Washington Avenue and Lumiere Casino and between Lumiere Casino and the Mississippi River. Speaking of the Mississippi River, the northernmost cobblestone street provides a fantastic vista of the 19th century Eads Bridge crossing the Mississippi River.  On account of the facts that St. Louis started here along with its rich history dating back to 1763, I respect Laclede's Landing. I want to make it clear that I do not to see it torn down or any building altered. It is a very special place that through investment, imagination, and passion can return to the prosperity that it enjoyed during the 19th century and the 1970s to 2000s entertainment era. Aside from the maze-like streets on the Landing I enjoy it for dining, biking the trail, running the Arch steps, watching the 4th of July fireworks show or simply relaxing on the Arch grounds. They also offer helicopter tours, food trucks and carriage rides. The cobblestone streets are such a cool piece of history; annoying to drive on but cool nonetheless. Park in the garage to avoid tickets and congestion when strolling the area. read more

The Laclede's Landing Merchants Association is doing an amazing job to revitalize an important and historic part of our city. For those of you who remember "The Landing" a few years back: Live music, outdoor festivals, horse-drawn carriages, buskers, restaurants and, of course, Mississippi Nights! The Landing thrived on local music blasting from many bars and venues and we all walked across the cobblestones and parking areas to see our favorite bands. Then the Landing became known as a "tourist trap" in our city and it was no longer "the thing to do on a Friday night". This past weekend I went to "Rocktoberfest II", which was organized by the Laclede's Landing Merchant's Association. Six of the venues/restaurants participated and five bands performed on two different stages. The venues sold food and beverages outdoors and the event was extremely successful - for the Colt's fans in town for the big game. St. Louis - you missed out! 200 Colts fans roamed the streets, danced to the music, drank beer and sang along to the bands. The weather was perfect (almost 70 degrees) and everyone had a blast. It is time we reconsider the Landing as a part of our nighttime entertainment plans. The LLMA is working hard to provide quality events and entertainment in this area and they are doing a great job! read more

Wow, I was really shocked when I saw and experienced this place. It's on the riverfront in downtown St. Louis and I suppose the idea was to attract tourists. It actually looked like it was on the verge of Ghetto. We were passing through St. Louis after arriving on our flight. This was the first leg of our vacation to Bass' River and Kentucky Lake for a week of water soaked fun. We were hungry and needed something to eat and that's when we found Laclede's Landing, just a stone's throw from The Arch. You could tell almost immediately that this was a thriving part of this area of town which had somehow been abandoned, leaving you with a handful of restaurants and the occasional shop. It looked like a virtual ghost town. I really hope the city can do something to revive this place, even if just for the tourists. St. Louis has the dubious honor of being the nation's 2nd most dangerous city (at one point they wrestled the title from Detroit), so maybe this place would go a long way in at least making it look like they're trying. It's not very likely that I will be returning to St. Louis anytime soon, but for the sake of survival and with an ounce of luck, maybe they can pull this off. Good luck. read more

I honestly don't know where to start on this one. Let's just say that if I were to write a review for Laclede's Landing a decade ago, I would've given it a better rating. It's sad to see what the Landing has become, and its a reminder of how bad the city of St. Louis is going downhill. A little history: Laclede's Landing is one of two surviving districts of St. Louis, that has helped kind of preserve its past. In fact, some of the 19th century buildings still exist. It had struggled throughout the decades up until the 1980s when numerous restaurants, bars and nightclubs opened. Arguably, the most notable one was Mississippi Nights- that small nightclub/music venue where big-name bands like Nirvana and the Chili Peppers once performed. The neighborhood would also give tourists a nice history of how St. Louis came to be with its industrial past. Plus anyone can check out the Mississippi River and go underneath the Eads Bridge, all within walking distance to the Gateway Arch. Most of that still applies today; however, it is all a ghost town at the Landing, day or night. The magic shop is gone, as well as the Royal Dumpe and several landmark bars. Some say it all started when Lumiere Place casino moved in and built around, causing it to tear down Mississippi Nights in 2006-7. A few of the places still survive, but who knows for how long. I can still recall when the Landing was 'the' place to go to celebrate, and it was full of high energy. Girls everywhere, youngsters having a good time, and loud music coming from the clubs. There are many reasons it got to its current state: 1) crime and panhandlers. While its nothing new, people do eventually get sick of it. In fact, last night, we came across three people asking for money. 2) Arch Grounds construction. I'll be fair, when the Jefferson Expansion park renovations were happening, a lot of the Landing was blocked off from that area for a long time. Some businesses were gone by the time it was over. 3) More areas to party and drink. Soulard, The Grove and Ballpark Village have become more prominent nightlife areas in St. Louis in the last few years. We chatted with security and workers from Morgan Street Brewery and they came up with those theories. One of the Brewery's workers even said that in 2011, he usually walked out with $800 in his pocket when his shift was over. Nowadays, its much worse, needless to say. I did read in a recent article that the city wants to put condos for millennials who work in the city in the Landing. Sure, that may help restore the area a bit, who knows. But for now, the Landing is in a sad state and I hope locals can help save it. Ironically, the casino seems to get all the people, but nobody really leaves that spot. And I'll be fair, sometimes the Landing does have festivals, like the Big Muddy Blues one. Charging people $5 or $10 for parking may have to go out the window sometime soon. And those cobblestone streets that are wicked on your car? Yeah, don't even get me started. read more

This is the only intact piece of St. Louis' 19th Century riverfront. A great place if you like history. All the buildings are at least 100 years old. Go to the Laclede's Landing Association website and they have a walking tour on the website, which will heighten your appreciation of the old buildings. There are a number of bars and restaurants. Plus a mcrobrewery, a wax museum, a dinner theater with Henry VIII, and even a dental theater. And walk all the way down to the riverfront and you can look directly up at the magnificent Eads Bridge (our first) and you can look upriver at the Stan Musial Veterans Bridge (our newest). read more

What the hell happened to Laclede's Landing? The last time I was here, this portion of downtown was happening. Lots of bars, lots of restaurants, lots of people walking around and the energy was level 10. Now, almost all of the restaurants are closed down with only a few bars remaining and it was like a ghost town. Sadly, my last trip to Laclede's Landing will actually be my last trip to Laclede's Landing. read more

Really cool place to be for all the festivals.. They have parties every Friday and Saturday night near the arch...it's a really cool place to be and it's far from where I live on that is on Washington Avenue and 10th Street and the fact is the Blues Festival was their last weekend exactly one week and two days ago and brought many thousands of people there in a weekend.. it is next to Lumiere casino and hotel and next to Four Seasons Hotel.. its just a really nice area but when its hot out it hurts and as super poverty is down there or up there you could say is right next to the water. cobblestones. bring walkable padded shoes or it will hurt. read more

I am so sorry for what has happened to a once great city, my city, where I was born and raised. StL has been under bad management for at least forty years now. Why has downtown died? Why is Laclede's Landing a former shell of itself. We should be rivaling New Orleans. Why do they not see we are a river culture? Bring back the riverboats; ie, the Admiral and give up on "docked" crap hole casinos. And why! won't they leave the Arch alone? That area was in no need of yet another renovation. I kinda dislike the moniker to this great town as the "lou" because in England the "lou" is the toilet. read more

Laclede's Landing is an area with so much potential yet each time I visit it just seems that it's never really got the spark it needed to take off. The place is steeped in history, the cobblestone streets take you back in time, it's got easy access to Metrolink and yet...it's just blah. Which is a real shame too. The last time I had fun here was when Mississippi Nights was still open. I sure miss that place as do a lot of others. I'm sure that St. Louis's Finest that worked that area don't all share my point of view though. 2 Stars: Even with festivals and pithy efforts to make it special, it's still not anywhere near what it could be. read more

It is a neat historical part of St. Louis, but quite lackluster. Again, I was hit dead-on with the downturn of our country's economy because of all the vacant business spaces and for sale signs. We ended up walking the entire landing in under 30 minutes and did not experience much. We decided to get lunch, but quickly realized that there was little to no variety of ethnic choices. There where several bars/pubs, one Italian joint, and a sushi joint that was closed. We decided on an Irish pub that was alright, but nothing to write home about. I can not help, but wonder what this area was/would be like if the economy was different. Would I make it a point to visit again? No. There are many other destinations on my bucket list. read more

Laclede's Landing is a historic part of Saint Louis taking you back to the days when the river played an important part in our cities economy. Today, little is left of our old riverfront, except for a few small blocks known as Laclede's Landing. All of the buildings here (except the casino) are 100+ years old, and showcase some of our historic architecture and great brickwork. The streets here are cobblestone, which make getting around by car a bumpy experience, its best to park and walk to some of the local businesses. There are a variety of bars and restaurants, along with a few tourist stops which might peak your interest. Another great way to experience the Landing is to take in the Mighty Mississippi, which is only a few blocks east. I only wish that Saint Louis would had preserved more of its historic riverfront! read more
