If Portola Valley becomes the site for first contact with aliens from distant galaxies, this sign will be the reason why.

Pros: It's a gas station. Cons: The LED sign is totally obnoxious. How did this ever get approved by the city? And why are they even advertising the *prices*? Their prices suck. They should be in fine print, not burnt into our retinas as we drive by. Bottom line: Most people only buy gas here when they have to in order to make their drive of shame home while leaving Portola Valley...note the 24 hour business.

I've been ordering tires online from the same place for over a decade. I've never had a problem…read morebefore. I've also never been to this installer's location before. I ordered on Friday and instead of scheduling my appointment for the first available slot (which was shown as the next day) I scheduled it 5 days out (the very next Wednesday at 9:30am) Upon arrival, the technician took my name and phone number down. I also wrote down the make and model name of the tires I ordered. And he tells me It'll take around 1.5 hours or so as I'm the only appointment they have so far and the only vehicle they have ready to work on. A few minutes later the manager comes back and takes my information, again, after I already provided it all to the tech. The manager then tells me he doesn't know if they have the tires yet, and asked me if I got notification they were delivered (I've never gotten confirmation ever for any order shipped to the shop, because I'm not the person receiving the tires, they get sent directly to the shop) Yet still, the manager tells me it will be about 2 hours or so and sends me on my way. About 5 minutes after leaving I get a call saying they don't have the tires and can't work on the vehicle, so I need to come back and pick it up. When I got back, I told the manager that they should be aware of whether they can install tires for their appointments or not for the day. They opened at 7:30am, and my appointment was 9:30. They could have called me to let me know not to come in. They could block off their schedule and not allow bookings unless it's more than X number of days out to account for extra shipping time, etc. They could have told me they would check the shipping and that they'd arrive later today so I can leave the car there and they'd let me know when the tires were delivered/installed. There was so many options available but the manager refused to take any responsibility. When getting in the car to leave, my partner was walking back to her car and head the manager call me an idiot. Seriously dude? I was never rude, understandably dissatisfied, but never raised my tone, spoke ill, or cursed at all. This dude should not be in charge of or have to manage anything when he clearly can't manage a basic customer interaction. I drove 45 minutes one way to get there on time for my appointment. My partner drove 45 minutes so that we could leave the car there for them to do the installation. We both had to drive separately, another 45 minutes each, to get back home. Overall, 3 hours of our collective time was wasted due to something incredibly simple and easy for any one of Skip's corporate engineers to implement, or a QA person, or a customer service representative, or a simple AI assistant that scans tracking numbers and flags appointments that are scheduled before estimated tire delivery. I will NEVER go back to this location, or any "Skip's Tire" shop. Do better. Hire better people. Take responsibility. Don't waste peoples' time. And don't verbally insult or assault your customers. AND FOR THE OTHER YELPERS OUT THERE: READ THE BAD REVIEWS AND UNDERSTAND THIS IS NOT THE PLACE YOU WANT TO TAKE YOUR CAR. I WISH I READ SOME OF THESE OTHER REVIEWS LIKE THE ONES FROM William M, Pierre J, Jay A, Negar A, Zhaidar T, and Gabe U.

Incredible customer service!…read more I scheduled an appointment due to my TPM sensor not going off after applying air to the tires. Came in today and was told how all 4 sensors needed to be replaced and my front tires needed to be replaced. Alex helped me out so much with being able to get all 4 sensors, and to get my two front tires replaced! I had never received incredible customer service at a tire/auto shop ever! This place does not upcharge at all and they genuinely care for their customers! I'll definitely be returning back if I ever have any issues with my car. Thanks again Alex!

Had an appointment scheduled weeks out to get a punctured tire patched -- rear passenger side…read more Simple job. Show up on time and the rep (Robert) immediately says he won't repair it. I push back and ask him specifically which puncture is actually causing the leak. He starts checking and finds out the one near the sidewall isn't even the issue -- it's the other punctures. So now the original reason to refuse goes out the window. Then he pivots. Goes over to my front driver side tire -- completely different axle, opposite corner of the car -- and says he won't service my vehicle because of the condition of that tire. Points to a specific line in their internal policy: "2/32 Inches or Less." I read it right there in front of him. That row describes what they can and can't do with a tire that IS itself at 2/32" -- it says nothing about refusing to patch a completely separate tire on a different axle. He misapplied his own policy. Also worth noting: that same policy line has a green checkmark under "Inflate" -- meaning by their own chart they'd inflate a 2/32" tire but won't touch a perfectly separate tire on the other side of the car. Make it make sense. I asked him to put the refusal and the reason in writing. Wouldn't do it. Just kept pointing at the policy -- the same one that doesn't actually back up what he was saying. And here's the part that gets me -- if it's a safety issue, why'd you let me drive off? No waiver, no documentation, nothing. Just sent me on my way with the puncture still in the tire and the "unsafe" tire still on the car. That's not a safety call, that's a sales call. Posting the policy photo so you can read it yourself. Filed a complaint with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair. If this sounds familiar at this location, you can do the same at bar.ca.gov.
