This tiny Santa Monica wine-and-cheese concept debuted in 2016, and their charcuterie boards earned acclaim from Oprah and The New York Times alike. During the pandemic, Lady & Larder ventured into the sandwich game, and the result was a resounding success. Nowadays, the not-so-secret "Secret Lunch" lineup of gourmet sandwiches is among the best in Los Angeles. The tiny Santa Monica shop shares the block with a Sherwin-Williams and a boxing gym. Cross your fingers for metered street parking on the trafficky block of Pico. Outside, red metal patio furniture is shaded by the overhanging storefront. Natural light runs through multicolored windows to the shop within. The mosaic tiled floor is effortlessly chic. The soaring whitewashed walls are minimally decorated, while shelves and refrigerators are carefully curated with wines, cheeses, tinned fish, and candles. The tablet register is set up on a worn kitchen countertop. Soft, instrumental music immediately feels welcoming. I've visited multiple times for early weekend lunch, and our Toast pre-order was ready upon arrival. We grabbed a table outside, and numerous takeout customers popped in and out during our meal. My favorite was the Disco Only. This elevated turkey club featured an impressive depth of flavor, from the sharp alpine cheese to the rich garlic mayo to the tangy pepperoncini vinegar. The thick-cut Bub and Grandma's sesame bread held up admirably well, and the arugula added a welcome fresh factor. The proteins were plentiful but were outshone by the other components. I also loved the Hot Girl Salami. The sweet-and-hot mustard and crispy baguette accentuated the rich, almost buttery salami. Meanwhile, the Venice Cowgirl was like a cheeseboard on a baguette. The sweet peaches and apricot-habanero jam dominated the subtly rich cheese or thin prosciutto, but the sandwich nonetheless proved to be a unique, summery option worth sharing. Lastly, the Yes, Honey elevated the ham-and-cheese with tangy relish, but the other components felt standard and forgettable. The service was friendly and efficient, and sandwiches ran for $15-20 each. Overall, the food tasted like the Santa Monica Farmer's Market on a premium roll, with sandos ranging from good to excellent. I visited this cute shop on Pico, near Lincoln. It's very small, with lots of different things inside. I was there for the food. I saw sandwich specials, cheese and meat trays, drinks, etc. I ordered the "Yes Honey" which normally comes on baguette, but there were out so instead it was served on some tasty sliced bread. The sandwich wasgood and filling. I was a little surprised by the shredded cheese and lettuce in the sandwich, mostly just by how it was presented. This place is a small cheese shop located in Santa Monica. They're known for the goods they sell out of their store (primarily cheese), but some of my friends have mentioned that they've seen their beautifully prepared charcuterie boards at some house parties in the area. They also have sandwiches that they sell every day. The folks here are very very friendly and the vibe feels like a small mom and pop place in a big city. In addition to the food, there is a solid selection of craft beers and natural wines inside the shop. I came here specifically to get a sandwich that I saw pop up on my Instagram feed - The Venice Cowgirl. This is such a great summertime sandwich. Fresh peaches with some creamy cheese from Cowgirl Creamery. There's also some arugula and basil in the sandwich served in a nice crunchy baguette. Such a great mix of flavors and wonderful textures. How else can I describe the absolutely charm and beauty of this little place: WOW! I got to finally visit after hearing word from my mom and sister for months (as mom and I live on the east coast). Let me tell you I was not disappointed except for the fact that I cannot become a regular or I'd be out of money from flight costs. The food is great, and the service is very friendly. Our issue is that the sandwiches are premade, and when they have relish or tomatoes on them, the bread is soaking wet, literally soaking wet. This is the cutest shop for buying natural wine, cheese, or any other cool girl cookware/homeware items, and I'm happy there's a spot like this on the Westside! I came around lunchtime to try one of their "secret lunch menu" sandwiches and ended up ordering the Hot Girl Salami baguette sandwiches for $12 (since their regular sandwiches were $19). The sandwich was good and was generously stuffed with meat, cheese, and greens, however I wish I ordered the Franch Girl sandwich as the combo of flavors in this sandwich were pretty one-note. I would definitely come back to buy gifts for friends that are into food and wine (and pretty packaging). They had a handful of cookbooks, olive oils, some preserves/sauces, and even beauty products and candles. Bonus points for stocking one of my favorite natty wines, LS Gris by Wavy Wines. The cutest little wine, cheese, and sandwich shop! I came for a secret lunch menu sandwich but didn't realize I would get lost in their charming décor and endless knick knacks. It was fun browsing the pre-made assorted cheese and crudité boxes as well as all the aesthetic wine and beers. We were on a mission to try one of their secret lunch menu sandwiches (offered between 12pm-3pm daily) so we went with the Submarina and wow was it a delight. This is the cutest place with the nicest staff & tons of goodies. I placed a last minute cheese + charcuterie picnic board & they were SUPER accommodating. Upon pickup, I browsed around & saw they have plenty of options for wine (NA as well), a huge selection of cheese, & carry some of my favorite brands like Brightland/Zabbs, and a few cookbooks. Very cute place with a great and friendly staff. Now on to the sandos. Got the Yes, honey and the hot girl salami. Both were very good. The sandwiches are split into two categories: baguette and sliced bread. I got one of each. I would say the Hot girl salami on baguette was the smaller of the two and probably my favorite. It's not a big sandwich and fairly priced at $14. The salami and cheese and toppings are outstanding quality but I do feel a bit bread heavy. The baguettes are dense and chewy and a jaw workout for sure. The Yes, honey is on a much more tender and delicate sliced bread that will fall apart if not consumed quickly and allowed to soak up the moisture from the sandwich. It's def cheddar forward. Almost overpowering all other ingredients. A tad overpriced at $20 but nothing crazy. This is a larger sandwich than the baguette style sandwiches. I enjoyed the packaging very much it was very cute. We were finally nearby again after the fires and stopped in to take away fruit and crudite picnic boxes. The quality was as phenomenal as we remembered, having platters made for our wedding after loving their picnic boxes and sandwiches. We called same day and the guy was really friendly and accomodating and even more welcoming in the store. I stopped here before going to a picnic and I got the hot girl salami sandwich and the crudite box to-go. First, everything is so lovely looking. You really do eat with your eyes first. I loved the floral wax paper they used to wrap the sammies in. The sandwich was delicious, exactly what you want when ordering salami; nice and salty but with some fresh produce to round out the overall flavor.
