I took my friend here who was visiting from the East Coast. She MUST eat gluten-free, I can eat whatever I want. However, I wanted to treat her and to also try gluten-free. I wasn't sure I would like it or not, but I can tell you I ended up eating it all. It was awesome, every single dish! I'm going here again...even without her haha! We started with the focaccia which was delicious, although it tastes different than what gluten made focaccia tastes like. It was very light and crisp, not as rustic as regular gluten made, and even more enjoyable with the spiced olive oil that accompanied it. As an appetizer we tried the fried stuffed squash blossom with minted ricotta. OMG!! That was SO incredibly tasty! We definitely want that again... and we will later Today! I had the pasta Bolognese and my friend had the fish and chips which we shared and we both loved each of them. The fish was so crispy and delicious and it came with gluten-free fries which were also awesome. We had two glasses of wine which we loved, and we were very impressed with our server, Cameron, who is obviously an expert on their impressively large wine collection. He is a legitimate wine connoisseur. I asked a couple of ridiculous questions, yet he answered them so politely with his highly knowledgable answer. He was such a wonderful SOMM as well as a very friendly and personable server... with a wonderful sense of humor. So. I want people who are not gluten-free to know it's good to try to try this place. Everything is not only tasty but beautifully presented and the room is so cozy. If you're worried about trying gluten-free don't be. I asked Cameron's opinions on the food and I'll tell you he did not steer us wrong. Highly recommended by both of us; My friend with Celiac disease and myself who professors to be 'normal' (not gluten free). Oh.. we could not fit in dessert, but are very sad not to have been able to. First time at 401K in Venice, and I happened to catch their Summer of Riesling event. Lucky me. I got to try a few fantastic Rieslings, and our sommelier made the night. She was fun, full of energy, and knew her stuff. Turns out 401K is completely gluten-free, which I didn't realize until I walked in. Huge bonus. Even if you're not gluten-free, (don't let that stop you, it's not scary) everything we had was legit delicious. It's all tapas-style, so bring friends and share. We went in on the chicken & waffles, calamari, sliders, crab cakes, and wrapped it up with the lemoncello tiramisu (which was as dreamy as it sounds). I'm still kicking myself for not trying the banana bread pudding. The space is on the smaller side; let's call it "intimate", but there's also a sweet back patio if you want a little more elbow room. Tried this place for the first time last night with some friends. The experience was amazing. The sommelier really knew her stuff and gave us a few samples to zero in on what we liked. We ordered some food too, which was ok. The highlight was the fennel and cucumber salad. So bright and fresh tasting. The steak skewer was good. The slightly disappointing things were the pepperoni pizza and the deviled eggs. Both somewhat bland. Pizza needed more garlic or oregano, something to perk it up. Eggs too. I was so sad when Saints & Sinners closed down but then found immediate relief when I found out they own this spot immediately next door as well and are still selling their delicious pastries and treats in addition to their full menu at this location. I had walked by not knowing their hours and the owner, (I believe her name was Elisa) was so kind and let me in to order some goodies. She was the absolute kindest human and we chatted for a little bit. When a business not only has exceptional food and drinks but their customer service is also top notch I'm sold for life. We came here for dinner on a Friday evening with our son and his wife, who introduced us to 401K. Elisa, the owner, is from Ischia in the Bay of Naples. She greeted us warmly and was very attentive during our visit. FOOD (4/5) 401K is a gluten free restaurant. They do a very good job. My wife and I shared: Zucchini Blossoms (5/5) -- Outstanding. Among the best ever. The blossoms included the baby zucchini, and the gluten free coating was tasty and fried perfectly, golden and crispy. ($18 for 3 blossoms) Beer Bartered Rockfish & Chips (4/5) -- The Rockfish was excellent, not overcooked, again with a gluten free batter crust. Sadly, the French Fries were just so-so. ($20) All of us shared the Baked Mac & Cheese (4/5 $14), which had a very nice bechamel sauce. For desert, we enjoyed a slice of the Almond Marzipan Cake (4/5 $13). All gluten free. WINE (5/5) 401K has a very nice wine selection with an emphasis on Italian wines. Worst experience ever, I've had better service and food at Denny's from back in the day. I had hoped for a fine dining experience not, what my large party received. We felt like we were attending a sports bar. We were almost entirely ignored and we spent some solid money. I was there to establish lasting memories not, hear horror stories from my dear friends. I actually got sick off of one dish. No, I don't personally drink alcohol. But we didn't feel welcomed one bit. I've had Celiac for 22+ years. My 10 year old sold just got diagnosed. 401k is beyond amazing. Not only is everything gluten free, but the food tastes amazing. The sommelier is a breath of fresh air. I'm a picky wine drinker and she always nails it every time. The churros are phenomenal. The Mac and cheese is my new fav. At first glance you'd think it's not kid friendly. The only negative is we all ordered drinks but the kids said "just water" and the waiter brought out pricey BOTTLES of water for each of them. When people say just water, that means tapwater. I'll say it: Probably the best restaurant with all gluten-free food in LA. You know I'm not lying when the rextaurant, itself, doesn't even have gluten free in its name (and all offerings are gluten free). What do I mean? The food is good, real good. It doesn't need to specify gluten free all up in its name because you really won't even be able to tell it's gluten free. Some places put gluten free in the name, get all fake and pretentious, and then use it to qualify itself as "good for being gluten free,". 401K is not one of those places -- it's good whether you're gluten free or not. Appetizers: The rosemary focaccia bread is nice (just be prepared to like rosemary, as it's sprinkled on top). The biscuits are perfectly done. Make sure to use the special dipping sauce and flavored butter that comes with each one. Main: The Penne Pasta Alfredo is amazing. It's cashew Alfredo, which makes it vegan and it's amazing -- hear me, vegan and ama I g doesn't always go together. We're not vegan and I'm imploring you to try it. The beer battered fish and chips is a solid option. I've never been disappointed. The chicken & waffles is my running favorite. I don't mess with the jalapeno sauce and instead ask for 2 maple syrups and use the maple butter. It is so good! Vegetables: They are all good. I like the fries but for real, you can't really go wrong with any of them. These are the same owners as Sinners and Saints Bakey a door or two down the street. Super Solid food and people. Try the churros! Patio: I've actually only eaten on the back patio. We always choose it and it's nice and comfortable back there. Final Word: You gotta try 401K. Been here many times and have enjoyed the food but my family had a reservation for 4 to celebrate my birthday and we were astonished at the service: we stood by the door for 10 minutes waiting to be acknowledged and finally when we were, we were told they didn't have any more tables. The woman was SO rude and told us the "app must have messed up and said there were tables when there weren't any left". We quite literally saw our name and reservation on their ipad. Disgusted by the service, we left and won't be returning. My husband and I revisited 401k for a special dinner recently, having made a reservation ahead of time for a combination anniversary/birthday celebration. Just as we arrived, a couple walked in seconds before us and, despite not having reservations, they were immediately seated at the nicest booth in the indoor dining area. We however, got seated at a small table in the intersection between the hallway and the bartop. Given that we had made a reservation (requiring a credit card!) specifying that it was a celebration dinner, the seating arrangement felt a bit off. After a couple of minutes, we decided to relocate to the patio, hoping for a more pleasant experience. Unfortunately, someone in the alley adjacent to the patio was smoking (I'm pretty sure it was an employee), and the strong smoky smell lingered around us throughout our meal. On the positive side, the food once again exceeded our expectations, and we enjoyed our meals very much. The staff was all very courteous and helpful, and we don't blame them for the oversight. However we were definitely a little disappointed at the seating situation, especially considering the reservation and the celebratory nature of our visit. So while we're still big fans of 401k, we might consider opting for takeout during our next visit. read more

Had a low key birthday dinner here and really enjoyed it! The restaurant is in a nondescript venue and you'd walk right past it easily without knowing that you're missing out on all the gluten free glory. We started with the goat cheese spread which is a must! It's very well done and sprinkled with black Hawaiian sea salt which I recently had during a Michelin seven course meal In Budapest. I have not only a gluten but also a bovine dairy allergy and I believe the baguette is buttered so beware. I made the mistake of not asking first (although we did mention the allergy) and after I took a bite I realized it was too delicious to not be butter so I had it without the baguette thereafter. The shaved fennel salad was nice, slightly overdressed for my liking, but a crisp and mild pickled summer salad. The sliders were so good that we ordered a second (then had to take them home because we were stuffed). We ordered fish and chips- these were perfectly crispy and tender where it needed to be. The scallops were nice but were probably my least favorite. The presentation was exquisite but you can hardly taste the scallops because the other flavors are overpowering. The best thing is that they brought us a gluten and dairy free chocolate cupcake for dessert. We had dessert plans afterwards with friends but once I took a bite, I was in heaven. I've never had a cupcake so soft and fluffy, decadent without being too sweet. It's a miracle how they achieved that - a luxurious chocolate delight. I'd definitely recommend the food! The only head scratcher from this experience was regarding the il vino. I ordered a tasting trio and was given a single glass. The second wine was poured into the same glass. They were both white but we thought it was weird. Never in a flight or a tasting have I experienced this. Then when the third (a red) was also poured into the same glass, I asked about it. The server just said that's how they always do it. They seem to promote their wines quite a bit (with a beautiful list and you an option to purchase bottles) - I would think they would explain their rationale or ask a paying customer if they want a glass change given that anyone who drinks wine knows that the mixing of flavors taints it. Defeats the purpose of the flight tasting. Outside of that bump, we had an enjoyable experience and would return and also recommend this place to others. The outdoor seating is cozy and relaxing on a nice evening. Definitely worth a try! read more

One would never know it's gluten and/or dairy free (depending on your order) unless they told you. I had the crab cakes and little gem salad. A long overdue review! 5 stars is just not enough - I'd give it 10! After having a scary uber ride to 401K - the staff welcomed us in like we were family. Elisa & Loris were so attentive and fun to talk to - my husband and I had the best night out. And the food is AMAZING! One of the best dinners I have ever eaten. Truly the best treat for someone who has a severe gluten allergy but also my husband (who can eat anything) has raved about his dinner to everyone. All the sauces & toppings - everything - made in house and delicious. We rolled out of there after trying so many menu items including dessert. So, found 401K by accident. A friend suggested a place to grab some drinks but also small bites and we ended up here. Neither of us are Gluten-Free btw. I had an enjoyable experience to the point of sharing this place with GF friends and even coming back with them. The only thing I don't like is parking. On Lincoln, just north of Washington - if you know the area, then you know. You can take a chance on the connecting residential streets - or if you're brave, park on Lincoln - but beware of crazy drivers. Anyway ... Service was excellent for each visit. I don't have much else to say about service except that I wish all my experiences were like these. As for the food - I will admit, years I didn't care for GF food as I felt that the food lacked flavor - but my visit here, I can say things have definitely changed for the better. See pics. WOW! I have no need to eat gluten free but I came here to have a dinner with friends who are and let me tell you this meal was incredible. Heads up: this review is way too late so some items may not be there. Service: Starting here because we were helped by an awesome lady. I forgot her name but she's either the owner and/or chef. She was so kind and attentive and very conversational. I remember asking if she had chicken wings and she said no but I'll make you some. What? That was A+ service. Now food... Literally everything was incredible. Corndogs - delicious, light Mac and cheese - I'm picky with this dish but it was flavorful like it had all the flour in it. Meatballs - simply amazing Buffalo chicken - this is the dish she just made for me on the spot and it was fire!!!! Bread pudding and churros - all desserts are heaven over here. We ordered way more than this but if you're gluten free or even if you're not you have to show this little restaurant some love. They are worth it and I think they get overlooked as one of LA's best. Great place-we enjoyed the Campari mocktail, the rose lemonade, the peach and burrata crostini, then the chicken meatballs and calamari with house-made remoulade. Oh, and the arugula salad with dried dates, honey dressing, and shaved Parmesan. My goodness, everything here is GF heaven. Came with my sister and our families for Mother's Day and every morsel was such a treat. My sister and I are both GF so it was extra special to be able to eat whatever we like on the menu. The biscuits were so fluffy and buttery, the garlic bread with the meatballs were so airy and flavorful. I don't know how they get such elasticity in their breads. Incredible! Okay, I'm not going to lie, I've kind of been trying to keep this spot a secret (but not really.) This is currently my favorite spot, in our neighborhood! Elisa did a fantastic job-the inside is rich and funky in design (love the purple seating and the lighting over the bar!) but the hidden patio is where it is at! SUPER dog friendly (just ask our puppy Jack Jack....Elisa knows :) ) Ethan is always our server and he is FANTASTIC...so chill, laid back, and just knows when to check in, what to suggest, etc. Elisa, the owner, is beyond awesome. She is just a real, no BS human who genuinely loves what she does and it shows. She talks to all her customers and loves sharing stories. She also has curated an amazing wine list. Now, let's talk food. So....401K hits all of those with Celiac right in the feels. Missing fish and chips? Not anymore....not to mention, their fish and chips are some of the best I've had (consider that I grew up in New England...) Great comfort foods like corn dogs (just do it!) tacos, and buffalo chicken. The menu is always changing --the squash blossoms and summer corn were both fab, over the summer--and it's never disappointing. My husband is gluten free so we decided to come here for date night. EVERYTHING is gluten free and i had my doubts because i can usually sense the lack of gluten in my food. But!!! This place surprised me. It is tiny but chic. The main area looks very relaxed, like youre having an intimate dinner at a rich someone's house. But it's not pretentious. We ate outside which was very cute with lights and heaters because it was chilly. My husband and i both had the chicken & waffles and the maple butter was to die for!
