've read the other reviews, and honestly I can't understand how people can speak so highly of this place. Maybe it's because they think they've uncovered some sort of hidden gem, just because it's tucked away inside a warehouse. Well, that's exactly what it is: a dusty, poorly cleaned warehouse. Yes, the selection is large--so large, in fact, that you really have to wonder how they manage product expiration dates. Just take a closer look at the labels (the ones that are still there) and you'll figure it out quickly enough. And let's not even get started on the absurd prices. You can find the same items in other shops for much less--shops where, by the way, they don't make a big deal out of issuing a receipt or charge you extra for paying with a credit card. We love this hidden Italian Market. Make the effort, and start trying out their delicious foods. So far we have purchased the frozen Italian bread (bake at home), the amazing Ricotta cheese ($2!!), and the Angel hair pasta. I have mixed emotions about this place, so let me try to verbalize my thoughts for you, Yelp: Some places have been around for so long and they KNOW they have a good thing...however, arrogance starts to brew and good old fashioned customer service becomes a thing of the past, which is really sad. Where are the places that strive to put kindness, hospitality and courtesy to the forefront even after decades of success? Do these core values and basic/common things get lost in translation after the years pass? I walked in, unassuming. I might not have had on the most expensive watch, and my hair was a bit disheveled from driving here with the windows down...but I arrived with excitement in my heart and money to spend. I walked in ready to explore but was quickly slapped in the face by the heavy feeling that every man was for himself. You're on your own, no help...and don't DARE TO ASK QUESTIONS BECAUSE THEY CAN'T BE BOTHERED. Come here versed in all things Italian because HELP you will NOT receive. And it was disappointing. It was a let down. Especially after a YEAR so disappointing. Especially with the intention of supporting a small business during a pandemic. Who would I have to be for someone to willingly answer my questions? They have a nice variety of Italian specialty foods. Things like pistachio cream, beautiful cuts and flavors of dried pasta you've probably never seen before and chunky lemon salt. Preserved figs. Italian wines and candies. I have been shopping at Guidi for years- even before they accepted credit cards, and have seen how they have changed but kept the quality high. Even though I moved out of Santa Monica, I do try and stop in when on this side of town. Seriously one of the only things I miss since moving. Three fine Italian places on the westside. This is No. One in terms of product selection. For example, olives like nowhere else. Yes, it's a bit old-fashioned in terms of cashier, etc., but where else can you get 5-year old Red Cow parmiagiano (at an excellent price)? Bay Cities is a close second, but doesn't quite have Marcello's unique selection. Third is Sorrento on Sepulveda in Culver City. More limited, more "old-fashioned", but quite good. They carry Molinari's "Toscano", while Bay Cities doesn't. read more

"Secret" find in an offbeat part of Santa Monica on a dead end street. (You have to enter from Olympic Blvd. and 10th Street). Mostly used by other restaurants and wholesalers -- as I was told they supply alot of the good Italian Restaurants in the area. Wish they had a bakery onsite as they don't sell fresh bread there -- but just about every other Italian Goodie including dry pastas, oils, meats, etc -- much of it imported from Italy. They usually have a few items on hand to sample so don't be shy and the prices are fair considering the quality. Much less of a mob scene than Bay Cities and friendly staff make this place a new favorite. read more

Very cool Italian imports store, with lots of great items for your kitchen, from organic olive oil to Modena balsamic vinegar, 5 year-old aged parmesan, biodynamic wines, handmade raviolis and on and on! The prices are much more reasonable than at more famous import stores like Eataly or hipster bakeries: I'd say it's probably 20-50% cheaper for most items. I also really liked their selection of imported cheese from various regions of Italy, to include Sicily. You really can't find these types of cheeses anywhere else in LA (like the Sicilian cracked peppercorn and curcuma cheese). Put me in a Italian market filled with imported "cheeses, 100 year old balsamics, hard to find Italian wines, chocolate bars from Tuscany, true extra chocolaty imported italian Nutella, authentic Italian pastas both fresh and dried, fresh Italian sundried Roma tomatoes, bottled truffles and spreads, and a large assortment of olives" and I reach that same Eutopia. Guidi Marcello is a diamond hidden on an unassuming side street. It puts every other gourmet market I've seen in los angeles to shame, except Surfas. But Guidi's isn't trying to be surfas, they specialize in Italian imported edible goods. In that regard they are better then surfas. If you like any of the items I mentioned above in my eutopia list, then you will have a major Holy Shit moment here! About once a year, the Yelp talk threads bear some useful fruit. This time it was the name of a pork product I've never heard of before, guanciale. Guancia is the Italian word for cheek, and guanciale is pure pork cheek heaven. But what should I do with this magical piece of pork and more importantly, where do I get it?! After a quick Google and Yelp search I found all my answers. Guidi Marcello, a local Italina fine foods market, had it and was only a mile from my office. And what to do with it? Google and Wiki said that I should make pasta all'amatriciana. And that's exactly what I did. The cooked cheek was hands down the most intensely concentrated pork flavor I've ever had. I LOVE this place! I can't wait to go back! My cousin took me here last weekend and I bought so much cheese, pasta, meats and wine. + tried the cheese that was on sale, bought it! + tried their gelato flown in from Italy, loved it, but had a 45min drive home so that wasn't going to work + FRESH veal ravioli (~$13/lb) - worth every penny, had it for dinner on Sunday, mmm! + PIZZA DOUGH! only $1.90 - just made a delicious pizza for lunch + bought a cabernet sauvignon for ~$15 which would've been $50 at BevMo - WOW! + procuttio ~$8/lb although there are more expensive ones, this was pretty good +/- haven't tried my pancetta yet, but I'm sure i'll love it +/- bought some fresh pasta that I will try soon - CASH ONLY unless you spend more than $50 you can used debit card and more than $100 for credit card. I spent over $50 already so I was fine but my cousin only spend $35 and asked if she could pay an extra dollar to use debit, and they said no. Oh well.
