Minecraft cake for 8th birthday party.
    Lindsay S.

Thank you to Lael Cakes for the wonderful birthday cake for my son's birthday. Being gluten free at a kid's birthday party is never easy or fun, so my son was very excited to finally have a cake he could enjoy. Emily made an amazing Minecraft cake that he loved. Her process of designing the cake included getting my son's feedback so the final design was exactly what he wanted. The flavors were yummy and all the kids enjoyed it. Delivery was super easy and helpful. Thanks again!

The perfect cake for our Black Tie wedding at The Russian Tea Room, thank you Lael Cakes!!!!

Planning a wedding when you have as many allergies as I do makes the idea of choosing a cake extremely stressful. At first, my husband-to-be and I were going to get me a smaller, separate cake, so our guests could enjoy a gluten and dairy filled cake- but at the last minute I decided against it. Being as it was our wedding, I wanted to have a cake that I could enjoy, and not eat something on the side separate from all our guests. You only have a party like that once, so why not have it catered to meet your needs? In the end, all of them were. We discovered Lael Cakes through our wedding coordinator and could not have been happier with the result. Emily was EXTREMELY responsive and helpful when it came to coordinating with us, which was unbelievably helpful considering that we live in the Washington, DC area and couldn't just pop in randomly when we wanted to. We spoke to her often through email, going over the menu options and getting her input on what icing paired best with what cake, and chose four cakes that we would like to taste when we went to New York. When we made the trek to Brooklyn one weekend, we could not have been more pleased by Emily's efficiency. When we arrived, there were four small cakes waiting for us to be tasted, including one that was meant for my cousin's birthday party for the day after the wedding, as we were lucky enough to have her coordinate and bake both. We tasted all four of the cakes, and when my husband and I couldn't agree on which tasted best- she was able to alternate layers for us so we both got exactly what we wanted! Also, my husband, who has absolutely no allergies whatsoever- was completely floored by how amazing the cake tasted. He said he couldn't even tell that it was a gluten free, dairy free cake which couldn't have been better news! When it came to decorating the cake, she gave us several ideas from cakes she had done in the past, and when we showed her what we liked best, paired with photos from our beautiful, elaborate venue- The Russian Tea Room- she was able to create something truly breathtaking for us. However, to ensure we liked her design, she sent us drafts that she created several weeks before the event for our approval, keeping us tied into the process 100% of the time. We chose our design and on our wedding day, it looked even more beautiful than I could have imagined based on the drawing alone! Our venue was extremely busy and loud where the decor was concerned and we were worried that a cake design too extreme would clash with the venue- but Emily hit the nail on the head. I am still thinking about our cinnamon icing and apple cake (those were my layers- my husband opted for the cinnamon icing and orange carrot cake for his) and wishing I could have it now! The next time I head to Brooklyn, or have any event in the city, I know just where I'll be ordering from!

    Our beautiful wedding cake!!

I can say with absolute certainty that Monique's holistic nutritional guidance and healthy eating…read morecoaching have transformed my eating habits (and my looks!!! - Yes, I'm being vain, but I'm just keepin it real). Since working with her, I have noticed that I rarely get the midday headaches that used to occur frequently, and when I look in the mirror, I slightly feel like I'm aging in reverse! #benjaminbutton. (Note: I used to eat a lot of processed food before Monique's coaching changed my whole approach to eating). When I confessed my deep adoration of fast food, she was refreshingly non-judgmental all the while helping me kick the craving. She is super spunky, motivating, and extremely passionate about what she does. What is it that she does, exactly? Well, from my experience with her, it seems to be a bit of everything, and she was very flexible with me about tailoring her services/guidance to my needs. She was as "hands on" as I wanted/needed her to be, which even included a trip to the grocery store together to help me identify brands/items that would be the perfect blend of healthy/tasty while also teaching me to understand ingredient lists much better and with a far more discerning eye - which I find extremely helpful and rather empowering (Farewell to the days of being duped by confusing ingredient lists...victory is mine!!!) She also frequently coached me via text, which often was able to be in "real time" (e.g. if I was at a grocery store by myself trying to figure something out) and Monique would give me feedback if she was available at the time. (I'm realizing I sound kind of needy as I write this, but fortunately she was totally cool with it!) Another interesting factoid is that apparently she herself is omnivorous (while still erring more on the "plant-based" side of things), but is also trained as a "Raw Vegan Chef" (in addition to more generally being a Holistic Nutritionist), so I can see her appealing to people with many different types of dietary restrictions or preferences. Also, I personally was extremely unsophisticated about food/health at the time that Monique started coaching me, so she simplified her approach in accordance with my primitive level of nutritional knowledge. But I could easily imagine she would also work really well with more health-conscious folks that could benefit from a higher level of eating coaching/guidance. So, bottom line - she's great! If you're looking for a healthy eating coach, she's your gal!

Monique is an absolute pleasure to work with! I needed help with my son's incredibly limited food…read moreoptions (about 10 ingredients total). She was up for the challenge and it was a HUGE success. Her attention to detail, our needs and preferences is so appreciated and valuable. The process of recipe selection was easy and went from snacks to dessert. A simple shopping list, fun foods to make and great company made it an amazing event, not another to-do! I learned so many new skills and most importantly got my 5-year-old eating eggplant, cabbage and other delicious snacks and meals that he would have previously dismissed. The best was at the end of the our time together my son came home from camp. He saw the freshly made stuffed cabbage on the stove and immediately said "Noodles, I want that!" - I let it be and he ate 2 stuffed cabbage rolls! I've since evolved the recipe to cabbage noodles with meat sauce. My approach to cooking has changed because of Monique and I am forever grateful! I had a blast. It felt like I was hanging out with a friend I've known for years. And I can't wait to have Monique come back to my home for a Girls' Night In cooking event with my besties.
