My wife was recently treated for kidney stone at John Muir Health in Walnut Creek and Concord. I…read morewould like to describe the outstanding care she received at both locations. Recently, on a Sunday evening, after our daily walk, she complained of unbearable pain in her lower left back. We called the Moraga-Orinda paramedics and they showed up in 3 minutes! She was given pain killers and rushed to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, the closest location for us. At John Muir Emergency Department, she was attended to immediately. The physician, Dr. Kessler, after examining her, immediately opined that it looks like kidney stone! He ordered a CT Scan and a medium to large size kidney stone was confirmed. Dr. Kessler prescribed pain killer, necessary medication and admitted her since the pain was unbearable for her to handle at home. Krystal and Kamala was the first nurse-team we had. They were both excellent, caring and compassionately attended to my wife as often as needed even during the night. After seeing the excruciating pain, they arranged an urologist consulting and a decision was made to do a Ureteroscopy and blast the stone into small fragments/dust. Since this procedure was done only at the Concord location of John Muir, my wife was transported by an excellent ambulance team to Concord location. In Concord, she was given excellent care by RN Mary and RN Emmeline - they were really amazing! My wife needed help often, and the nurses never ever complained (even at night) and helped my wife with a cheerful smile every time! The next two days, she was given outstanding care by Dr. Khan and the nursing team of Sarah and Benjamin. Sarah is very knowledgeable, competent, very compassionate, cheerful and friendly. She followed the protocol strictly for every care-activity and her attention to detail was amazing. For example, she had to check my wife's blood glucose regularly. Every time, Sarah would poke the finger, remove the first drop of blood the comes out with a gauze (since the first drop was in contact with the needle), press the finger to get the next drop and use it to test blood glucose! And, Sarah was training a student nurse and she was painstakingly describing every step of every procedure in great detail to the student while taking excellent care of my wife. The urologist, Dr. Chang, was very friendly, and explained to wife the details of the procedure. His attention to detail was also amazing. Since the kidney stone was in the lest ureter, he used a marker on my wife left leg to highlight that it is the left ureter! The Nurse practitioner from his office, Vivian, scheduled the surgery and communicated with us daily. She showed real concern and empathy for my wife's ordeal. The procedure was successful and the excruciating pain stopped almost immediately afterwards. Dr. Chang had written a detailed description of every step of the procedure in my wife's My Chart - it was comforting to read the detailed report. She was discharged the next day. The care my wife received from the Doctors and Nurses at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek and Concord was consistently excellent - the quick/initial diagnosis at ER, confirmation through CT Scan, excellent execution of the procedure by the Urologist and the awesome care she received from the Nursing Team after the procedure - all outstanding! We have lived in Contra Costa County for over thirty years and have had treatments at John Muir Hospital a few times and we experienced excellence every time! We highly recommend John Muir Hospitals and their outstanding team of Physicians and Nurses.

Sutter - Richmond Branch: Last Choice If You Expect Professional & Compassionate Front…read moreDesk/Receptionist Service. I am a longtime Large HMO member. New to Sutter and "boutique medical group practice". Was very excited to join believing that customer service would exceed what you find in larger HMO brands. I was Sadly disappointed = On 3/17/08 I called Sutter's Richmond Branch. The front desk /telephone receptionist "short" with me and lacked professionalism or courtesy as I attempted to explain the reason for my call and lack of familiarity with their system. My urgent pharmacy need was met with silence and NO recommended solution on what I could do to address the need. As a former senior level health care professional - I'm sensitive to the demands on physicians and their offices. I'm equally sensitive to the need for ALL members on the medical team - beginning with the receptionist/phone person - - to demonstrate above average customer service in a highly sensitive-sometime emotionally charged service industry that is 100% dependent on strong, loyal, and positive customer base. How the receptionist treats every one who calls on the phone or who walks in really does Matter. Good News: I've decided to give the Sutter brand another try. Made an appointment with Sutter's- Berkeley Branch. The receptionist at the Berkeley Branch was compassionate, a problem solver, and professional. I just may like the "boutique medical group practice" after all...........

Dr. Carrie McCloskey Plastic Surgery…read more I am not one to write many reviews but this is one I have to do! I had my surgery with Dr. Carrie McCloskey, a surgeon at Walnut Creek Kaiser Permanente, and I honestly couldn't have had a better experience. From the very beginning, she really listened to me. Every concern and request I had was taken seriously, which made me feel so comfortable and confident in my decision. Dr. McCloskey truly cares about her patients, and it shows in her work! My surgery turned out beautifully it was exactly what I hoped for. I'm so grateful for her skill, patience, and attention to detail. I would absolutely recommend Dr. McCloskey to anyone considering plastic surgery. She made the entire experience smooth, reassuring, and positive. I'm so thankful for having such a supportive surgeon like her. I highly recommend Dr. Carrie McCloskey for anyone looking into plastic surgery.

I've been a Kaiser patient for over 15 years but this was the year the Walnut Creek location…read morefinally pushed me to leave. ENT absolutely would not book me a second appointment. Weeks went by, multiple calls, emails, and I could not get access to care from them. I ended up walking into the ER several times until I was finally able to move my referral to Oakland, where I was seen roughly a week later. The injection clinic has a habit of not scheduling or informing you of secondary vaccination shots. Often you'll leave and have no idea it's part of a set unless you Google it and follow up with your primary on your own for them to order the shot. I was re-matched with a provider I'd made a complaint against a couple years before. This pushed my appointment out 6 months because the appointment was then labeled a "second opinion" - I switched to Oakland and saw someone immediately. With Kaiser CA, if your primary is out of office no one else can or will refer to you a specialist. The receiving department can forward along an existing referral to another office, but that's your only option outside of simply switching to another provider. You're out of luck until your doc comes back from Hawaii. This year I finally started paying cash to see John Muir specialists where I can schedule in appointments without a referral and see someone within days. I can't even describe how much it has improved my overall health. So as of January 2026 we are leaving for a different insurance company - Bon Voyage Kaiser.

One receptionist was sitting outside on his phone, but the doors were locked and no staff was inside. A line of patients formed outside, all confused. They didn't let anyone in until 9:15, and then told me it would take another six minutes for their computers to boot up. I was the first person there, first to check in, confirmed by the receptionist the first apt, yet they took someone else before me not due to urgency of situation but because staff claimed the computer showed otherwise, which simply wasn't true. When I asked the manager, Dejanae, she said appointment times "don't matter" because it's a walk-in clinic--yet if you're late, they cancel your appointment amd will tell you no walk ins are available. Makes no sense. Management was rude, argumentative, and refused to tell me how to file a formal complaint with the clinic. The rest of the front desk staff was equally unprofessional--talking down to me, raising their voices, and offering no accountability. I also asked for a copy of my medical records and how to access them, and they didn't know how. I asked if I had to sign releases to send recording sto my doctors and they said "um no I don't think so", no one was clear. That's not just bad service, it's unacceptable and may be illegal in terms of California Healthcare laws and rights. It took over an hour for a simple and common urgent care issue that should have taken 5. The experience was chaotic, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional. Their behavior and service stinks. Avoid this clinic if you can.

I've been a patient of Dr. Simmons (PCP/internist) for over 10 yrs & have been seeing Dr. Tinder (ob-gyn) for a couple years now. I'm a female, in my early 40s, and healthy, so far. Both are very knowledgeable, attentive, excellent listeners, and personable with fantastic "bedside manners". It's hard to find skillful doctors that are reliable, comforting and most importantly provide high quality healthcare but these two particular physicians do! So much so that I now travel from SoCal to see them. And if I need anything immediately they can get me the proper help and oversee it all right away with no issues! I can't praise or thank them enough for being so good to me and my family (also patients). 5 STARS Dr. Simmons and Dr. Tinder

Two weeks ago I had a Stem Cell treatment on my hip. I am already able to put more weight on my leg without the use of a cane, and the achy pain that shot down my leg is gone!
