Total bait & switch. They made me give my vision and health insurance cards - saying they only put through health insurance if there is a medical issue. Needless to say - they insisted on putting through me medical insurance - which gives them a higher reimbursement and charges me a much higher co-pay. My prior optometrist always put through my vision insurance. There is nothing wrong with my eyes, but they noted "the start of age related cataracts (that won't require surgery for many years), and other minor things that don't need treatment. I have since heard similar stories from others. Also - their glasses are very expensive. They only had a handful that would be fully covered by my insurance. Buyer beware! read more

I've always had pretty good vision, but figured in the last few years that it'd probably be a good idea to start getting my eyes tested to make sure I wasn't just deluding myself. Because my wife has been a patient here for years, and the office is close to our home, I decided to make an appointment here. The office is in a very convenient location right on Germantown Pike, and it's a good building with a bunch of exam rooms, an area with glasses, and a good sized waiting room, although I don't think it's much in use with the pandemic. They accept most insurance and are very friendly. Also, they have a pac-man arcade game in the waiting room, although I don't know if they kept it on during the pandemic. I recently made another appointment, and I appreciate how they have email confirmation and online forms to fill out rather than taking up time during the visit. Also, they seem to be taking some good precautions with COVID-19. read more

Could not recommend Lafayette Eye Associates more if I tried. I was staying in the area (right by the Lafayette Hill area...near Conshohocken and Plymouth Meeting) over Thanksgiving week and was in a pinch. I was having eye pain and needed to see someone ASAP. The assistants and doctor on call could not have been more helpful and helped squeeze me in. Beyond accommodating. They helped diagnose and treat my stye and even helped check & fix my prescription while I was there - . Kendall at the front desk was great (coincidentally my last name is her first name) and Holly helped me pick out 2 pairs of amazing glasses. Can't wait to go pick them up. Our pediatrician recommended that my four year old see a pediatric ophthalmologist. I called Lafayette Eye and they were able to squeeze us in for an appointment the next day because of a cancellation. The scheduling process was so easy, and I was able to submit all of my sons pre-visit information on an easy online form. The staff was very nice and accommodating when we arrived, and followed all covid procedures. The highlight of our appointment was the pediatric ophthalmologist. She was so sweet, and clearly loves working with kids. She made my son feel so comfortable and took her time to make sure he wasn't nervous. Front desk Jessica was the rudest person I've encountered in awhile. I'll take my business elsewhere, with some customer service standards.

Three out of the four times I've had to bring my glasses back to either be adjusted significantly or remeasured. Each time this happens, the staff first tries to tell me I should "get used to the lenses." I've been wearing glasses since I was 9 years old and am quite familiar with the experience of new lenses and frames. The same thing happened to my husband. His lenses were incorrect and they insisted he wait a few weeks before coming in. Eventually the problems get corrected, but it is always a hassle. They also recently sent me a bill (for the first time) that was over two years old. They explained they audited their system and just discovered that they should have invoiced me but didn't and demanded I pay. It was conveniently located near my house, but unfortunately after three years of poor experiences from the eye exam to billing, I will have to find another place. read more

The office is a bit chaotic and I don't understand why their fax system doesn't always send faxes when it says it was successful. But it's close by so I keep going. read more

I just had my semi-annual eye wellness check at Lafayette Eye Associates. I struggle for words to express my compliments and gratitude for this business. They take Covid concerns seriously, yet pull off a relaxing atmosphere/environment with such a gracious and friendly attitude. We determined together that I am finally at a point where I'd benefit having prescription glasses and after trying on @ 10 frames, we agreed on the ones chosen. The tech cautiously kept samples separate so she could sanitize them before putting them back on display. Her actions were, comfortable, respectable, and professional. The staff at Lafayette was equally kind and professional. The health and safety precautions were reassuring and not onerous at all. Checking in from my car upon arrival was fast and easy. My 5 year old daughter felt completely comfortable with the doctor and was excited to pick out her glasses in the end. We were done in less than an hour even with me chatting away. Since my last review, I am still no longer a customer there, yet still managed to receive multiple text spam messages from them. The last two have actually included somewhat ambiguous opt out instructions but they don't appear to work. I have been a patient for 5+ years. I see previous reviews from years ago that this practice is a revolving door. I always see Dr Banner and always request an appointment with her. Perhaps other doctors in the practice did not stick around. The front office folks are friendly and helpful. Even though I only see Dr Banner once a year, she remembers me and asks about my personal life and family. I like their selection of eye glasses and sunglasses. They have very stylish frames and the folks working that area do a really good job at helping pick out frames. I've been to lots of big box eyeglass chains and no one there walks you through their full selection to pick out frames. Lately I've been rotating 2 pairs of frames when I needed to update my prescription but it hasn't changed in a couple of years. I like that they are not pushy either. I didn't find any frames that I liked or were comfortable for my large head. The only negative that I have is that they often run behind on the schedule. My last visit I had to wait an hour past my scheduled appointment before I saw the doctor. Luckily I always block off a lot of time for my eye appointments, but I hope the office takes this in mind to continuously improve. read more

Make sure your read the section on their website about Medical vs. Vision insurance. I went there expecting to pay the typical vision insurance $20 copay for an annual eye exam that I have paid for years previously at other practices and ended up getting soaked for nearly $350 out of pocket because they submitted a claim to my medical insurance instead of my vision insurance. The care was excellent but the communication about billing left me feeling blindsided. If you're just wanting an eye exam for new glasses go to Warby Parker or Target. read more

I didn't like the fact that they did the Optos Retinal Imaging Without telling me it is not covered by insurance. I got a surprise bill at the end of the visit and was shock because I never had to copay for my annual eye exam. I just wish they could be more honest and upfront about the cost instead of just giving it to you as like it is part of the exam and then just hand you the bill. Unethical business practice. I'm a new patient to this place and I have no idea how they charge me for everything. I mean EVERYTHING. I went in for a follow up and I got something in my eye. So the doctor took a look and removed an eyelash from my eye. I got a bill of $50.74 for foreign body removal. If I know I have to pay that much. I would have blinked a few more times myself to get it out. Also, I never have to pay for annual eye exam with my previous optometrist. Now this place charged me $68 after my insurance paid them over $100. read more

I would not recommend this practice. From the moment I arrived, everyone seemed impatient, even though I was early to my appointment. There were no introductions, no small talk, not even to ask me why I was there or what problems I was having. The assistant did the eye tests without any explanation, and when the doctor came in, she was curt and seemed annoyed at my questions. She did not ask any questions to try to understand my vision problems and sent me away feeling like I had done something wrong or was wasting her time. I wanted to take advantage of my eye care benefits before they expired for the year so we visited L E A (don't feel like typing the name) and they were great! We previously visited a chain store in NY and they flat out refused to accept that my insurance covers non-prescription sunglasses. Its an odd option, however, my plan is awesome. Friendly and fast but didn't tell me anything other than what I came in suggesting was wrong. Fished to get more appointments booked that were unnecessary follow ups. Gave me a prescription for an eye cream that cost over $100 but did not mention this until I found out from CVS when I went to pick it up. Seems like a place that dose an adequate job, but I don't think eye exams are too complex to begin with. Coming from an honest physician family, I don't appreciate when physicians suggest unnecessary visits and treatments to pad their income. read more

I needed a last minute appointment and was lucky to get a cancellation. The staff handled my paper work so efficiently and the online forms made the process easy and eliminated office time which is so nice in light of covid. I waited in my car until a staff member waived me to a side door where my temperature was taken. I like that this was all done outside ! Smart - I was seen immediately and had probably one of the most thorough eye exams I've ever had. Each step was explained and photographs of my eyes were displayed re-assuring me that my eyes were "healthy". We came up with a very proactive plan to help with my issue of light sensitivity and for the first time In a long time I feel positive and upbeat about my vision. Today was a good day. read more

So I have been going to LHEA for a few years now because it was close to my home and they were ok. I don't know what happened in the past year, but the staff and the Doctors (the optometrist I had apparently left and I wasn't told until I got there) have become extremely rude and incompetent. My last visit, this doctor tried to provide me with a new prescription and made both eyes the same because she told me it was for convenience?!? I was so confused and kept asking questions like did my eye get worse, etc. so she was like forget it, I'm writing you the same prescription you had. Who does that??? Then when I went to go pay, the receptionist told me my insurance didn't cover my contact fitting. I guess I looked confused bc in the past, it was always covered or at least partially covered. I didn't feel like arguing so I paid and left. A month later, I saw that they submitted a claim to my insurance and noticed that it was covered and they got paid twice (once by me and them!!). So I called them for a refund and instead of an apology, they said, oh yeah, you have a credit on your account. Unbelievable.. Please stay away from this business!!! read more

I had an excellent experience today at Lafayette Eye Associates (my first time there.) I'd been experiencing eye pain and discharge for ages, which I (correctly) suspected it was due to my contact lenses. The doctor did a thorough exam, recommended a new, (daily) contact lens, and provided me with a generous number of samples. Already, the pain is gone, and I can feel the difference in fit. I was a patient here for 5 years. All in all, I have liked every doctor that has seen me. Nevertheless, I have had a different doctor each year, as this place has a revolving door of doctors. My biggest issue with this practice is the front office staff. I feel like I am bothering them every time I call or have an interaction with them. I just recently requested a prescription for contacts be mailed to me. It took multiple calls over several weeks before I got it. It was torture dealing with the front office. I cannot say enough about my experience at Lafayette Eye Associates! On a Saturday morning, just two days before leaving for a week long work trip, I woke up with a red, swollen, and very painful eyelid. It was a weekend and I was afraid that nothing would be open. Thanks to a yelp search, I found that Lafayette Eye Associates had weekend hours - added bonus, it was just a few minutes from home. I called right when they opened, not being a current patient I was worried they may not be able to see me, but Pat was wonderful! She got me in just a few hours later and walked me through the new patient process. I was seen promptly by Dr. Banner who asked a lot of questions about my symptoms and examined my eye. She was kind and incredibly considerate of my need for a quick remedy with an impending business trip. A little more than 24 hours later, you can barely tell my eye was ever swollen! I also noticed some really stylish sunglasses and eyeglass options on my way out!! I know where I'll be going when it's time for new frames! read more

Wait time was normal like 10 mins, which was OK as they have this old retro pac-man machine in lobby (pure nostalgia). Nurse, Doctor and staff are very polite and knowledgeable. I can hardly see to write this review, agree 1000% with Valerie M. - exceot I am not so sure about the doctors being first rate. I went for my second annual exam. Turns out I need a stronger Rx. She fitted me for contacts and gave me a trial pair, but refused to give me the Rx, saying that I needed first to try them a few days. They are not fitting right, I can't see distance, and told them so when I stopped in a few days later to give them my glasses to update. No one cared. I called a few days later and I had to really push to get them to try the other brand which had to be ordered. My doctor wasn't in until the next week, the staff refused to call her and also wanted me to wait until November 10 (3 weeks) and come i n again- because that doctor would be on vacation. Meanwhile I cannot see! I had given them both sets of glasses I have to replace the lenses with the new Rx to get a discount. Excuses excuses finally they said the doctor had ordered the other contacts. Still I could not see with the trial lenses so I tried my old contact lenses. Much better. I have 3 pairs left. It will be 2 weeks before my glasses come back. The rude staff (they don't say their name) told me the doctor who is in today dismissed my call, wanted me to come in next week. I have called about 6 times today trying to make it clear that I need to know if I have the right Rx, and I need to ask if it makes sense from my exam that my old contacts help me see better than the new ones, and is there going to be a problem also with my new glasses for which I am paying almost $800? So that's why I don't know if the doctors are first rate, did my doctor make a mistake? No one is perfect but I can't get any LEA doctor to speak to me to clear it up. They keep saying how busy the doctor is, seeing patients, and the doctor refusing to even let me know when she plans to return my call. This last time I specifically said I want them to call me before the next patient, it's been 4 hours and they close in one hour. This is not "care"". These people don't care at all that I am not able to see, and using an Rx that is out of date. Phone games unacceptable, you'd think they'd be concerned that I can't see! Do I even have the right Rx? Update February 2016- It only got worse at Lafayette Eye Associates, I came back for those $800 glasses no less than 5 times and they were either not right (they forgot to polish the edges the first time, the second time they tinted them green instead of blue... and each time LEA gave me a hard time, as if I should just take them the way they are, they never bothered to check them before they called me, or if they did they missed these OBVIOUS issues). In June 2015 My child went for Vision Therapy at Holistic Vision in Huntingdon Valley- I should write a review for them, Dr. Sapossnak was fantastic amazing. So I asked her if she could help me too. She understood why I was given the wrong Rx for both glasses and contacts, I took that Rx to Eyeglass works in Manayunk. I had to pay $800 again for the new, correct prescription but I CAN SEE and I can even wear contacts again! read more

Lafayette Eye Associates is by far the absolute worst provider experience I've ever had. Doctor, eye, or dentist this place is worse than anything I've ever seen. The office staff is so utterly rude and acts irritated when you call with a simple request. There is never a smile and everyone in the office seems pissed off to be there. It is an uncomfortable experience all around dealing with the office staff and the staff in the optical center. All staff except one assistant and the doctors offer terrible customer service. What an amazing experience! I just had my first appointment there earlier today and couldn't be happier. The doctor, Dr. Sahar, was extremely thorough with her examination, answered any questions I had, and was incredibly friendly as well. I found the entire staff to be completely attentive and patient as they worked to fit me with new contacts and new glasses. Their eye glass selection was extensive and they made sure to work through my insurance company as well and made the whole experience a real pleasure. Have been going here for a few years, but will be changing to a new provider this year. Front desk is awful, I called to order contacts and they acted like it was the biggest inconvenience for them to help me. When I went and picked them up at the office, the front desk staff was even ruder than they had been on the phone. One lady at the front desk actually ignored me and yelled to another lady that it was her job to help me. I paid in advance for two pair of glasses and after several failed attempts to get the Rx properly aligned in the lenses for the first pair, I was forced to go to another provider (Pearl Vision) and they got it right the first time. However, LEA refused to refund the money for the failed lenses or the pair they never delivered. They are thieves. Considering taking them to small claims court... read more

I had an emergency with my aye and the front office got me in within an hour of calling. The Dr. walked me through step by step of what she was doing and the recovery process. Through out my next 3 follow up visits I never waited more then a few minutes before being taken back to the examination room.. During the follow up visits the doctors took their time with the examination and answered all my questions. My eye is completely healed and I'm fitted with new contacts. From the check in to the examination to the check out I was treated like family. read more
