This review is long, long overdue! Several years ago, Dave fabricated a beautiful perimeter wrought iron fence separating our pool and yard from the golf course behind us. Recently, some of the round plastic caps on top of the finials had cracked and fallen off simply due to exposure to the elements after many years. I called Dave asking him if I could purchase some new ones for replacement. Not only did he have them, he insisted on dropping a bag of them off at my house, along with a special metal tool he made for me to tap them back onto the finials, as well as a can of spray paint to match them to the original custom color of my fence. Of course, I would have been more than happy to pay for all of this, on top of his great service, but Dave insisted NO CHARGE! Not only is Dave a master craftsman, but a stand-up guy! read more

This review is way past due. Lafayette Ironworks installed two large sliding driveway gates, one with a connected pedestrian gate and they did a fantastic job. I'd give 10 stars if it were possible. I can't recommend them highly enough. Dave was very professional, listened to my concerns and explained what would work best regarding design and function. His experience provides a high degree of expertise. He explained all the relevant issues related to my project (i.e., a sloping grade, the proper gauge, and overall appearance.) His communication throughout every phase of design, manufacture, and installation was excellent. He was friendly, easy to work with, and the final product is perfect. I love the gates. But the best part of working with Lafayette Ironworks has been the customer support. I had the gates installed nearly 3 years ago, and only recently some minor issues popped up. Dave came out right away, and got the gate "back on track" quickly without any questions or charge. And he's always been available for a phone consultation or a quick visit when needed. This is my first negative yelp review. Dave Ritchie made an appointment with us when I phoned to inquire about an iron fence. The appointment was made for a week after the call. The day of the appointment I left work to meet him and after 20+ minutes later I called to inquire about what time he would be arriving I got what sounded like a shop worker answering. He took my number and said he would call and either get back to me or have Dave call me. 20+ minutes later ( so 40 minutes after the appointment time ) NOTHING. I phoned again and shop worker said he had passed all of my info on to Dave in a conversation after my first call. I asked again for him to call me. 20 minutes later Dave did call me to matter of factly say he was sorry to be late ( IF he had been at my front door this may have sufficed, but in a heavily pursued return call, NOT so much ) He called me the wrong name many times even after being corrected and was basically rude. He did say that had I not called he would have NEVER remembered our appointment. BOTTOM LINE: (1) If you are running a business and aren't at all interested in coming out to bid a job, JUST say so. I can then move on to the next company who may appreciate the business. (2) if you are running late just make a call to let me know. The number he had was my cell phone, had he called I would not have come home from work to meet him. (3) if you forget an appointment apologize profusely and don't make me feel like I am a bother to you after you made the appointment personally just a week prior. Just a phone call to cancel or reschedule is all I ask. read more
