I am fond of YMCA's in general and while I am not currently a member due to the pandemic, I have been in the past, and likely will be again at some future time. The setup at this Y is not my favorite. There is only one bench available that isn't attached to a barbell holder and there are an excess of Elliptical machines and bikes. They've done away with the floor area to make room for even more of them. Someone must have demanded that, but it sure wasn't me. It's cool that this branch has an ice rink, though I've not used it yet. Parking is easy. Staff is friendly. However, there's no steam room, the towels are tiny, and unlike other Y's, you can neither borrow nor buy a lock. Most let you do one or the other. I'm glad this branch exists, but it's average in my estimation. read more

Got kicked out after taking off my mask while getting water. Saw many people not wearing masks as well. Wouldn't surprise me if I saw a outbreak there in the near future. Also blonde lady who appears to be "in charge" showed major character issues which made my question if she should be taking a job of that caliber. read more

Great place to be a member. I taught my oldest son to ice skate here. Since they are so family oriented they allow skating aids like milk crates that the kids can lean on when they can barely stand on their skates. The youth hockey program is well run and the director Roy is knowledgeable and fair. I found that when coaching mite hockey here that the parents think there shouldn't be any contact... Uh, hello people, it's hockey not tennis. I also played adult hockey here and overall it was a good experience. The ref's were okay. Not as good as the Promenade but not bad. read more

We love EVERYTHING about the YMCA of Boulder Valley! Classes are excellent. Facilities are clean and well outfitted. Staff is friendly and always personable. My kid LOVES child watch. The pool is fantastic in the summer. The yoga room & instruction is outstanding. I especially like that they reach out to the community offering programs that help people through every phase and stage in life. We will be members here forever. read more

I've been playing hockey at the rink here for at least 10 years. Both the league and pick-up games are better run than other programs that I've participated in. Yeah, they've been up and down over the years, but the consistent trend is constant improvement. For the money, there isn't a better deal for hockey anywhere nearby. Members get drop-in hockey at no additional charge and league games at very reasonable prices. I brought my son out to the learn-to-skate program when he was three. When it turned out he wasn't quite ready (which he proved by sitting on the ice crying for 30 minutes), the skating staff cheerfully offered him a free session when he was a little older. Most of the staff is very friendly and helpful. I've always felt secure leaving my son with the child-watch staff. They even were kind enough to watch him for an extra fifteen minutes once when I didn't realize my hockey game went beyond their closing time. The weight room is also very nice with a fair assortment of free weights complimenting a solid number of weight machines, treadmills, stationary bikes ellipticals and such. There is also a good sized gym and indoor running track. Of course the Y offers a number of fitness classes as well if you're interested in a little motivation. In all, I'm very pleased that I found the Y after playing at other venues for years. I was disgruntled by the way programs were run at nearby rinks, but I wouldn't have found the Y if they'd done a better job. read more

The YMCA Arapahoe Branch is one of three operated by the Y of Boulder Valley and is an amazing facility. I regularly attend the group exercise classes and find them to be fun, challenging , welcoming and very social. In fact I look forward to coffee with my Y friends after the class & they help keep me on track with my workouts. The facility also has a pool for use in both the summer and winter (covered by a bubble now), a full set of exercise and weight equipment, yoga, palates, spinning and TRX classes. If you like ice skating, this is the place for you with a full size ice rink. I love the Y not only because it is a beautiful, clean facility, but also because as a member I am supporting programs that create a strong community. The Y offers help to those who are in need and provides critical service such as day care and summer camp that help working family thrive. read more

This Y in particular is nicer than the other ones I've been to and I feel like they try their best to make this a great experience, but several times my son has seen the people working at the register slack. On one occasion he has said he'd seen an employee check Snapchat and when she noticed he was near, she threw her phone down and pretend to work. But other than that this Y is great, the gym is great and my sons are motivated to stay active. read more

My husband and I visit many YMCA's every year in our travels across the US. We had never been to one with an outdoor pool before. We were pleasantly surprised with this beautiful facility that boasted water slides, diving boards and water sprays for the younger kids! They have comfortable lounge chairs with huge umbrellas for relaxing after a swim, and even a snack bar! This facility had such friendly and helpful Y personnel we felt very welcomed! They are one of 5-6 YMCA's that have an ice skating rink in the US! Even though we didn't try out their exercise rooms we saw that they were good sized with lots of equipment. They seem to be doing everything right! Highly recommended! read more

Three years ago I decided to learn to play hockey. The YMCA had the easiest and best website for info on programs and schedules. I joined the reasonably priced "no nonsense hockey" program. Roy is a very "dry" character but does a great job with the program. He spent time with us individually if requested. As time went on, I improved and played drop-in. After some time playing drop in's, I joined the leagues. Before I moved to AZ in Jan, I was a member who was at the Y 4-5 times a week. Hockey: The vast majority of the guys I played with or against were great. Bunch of guys just having a good time, competing against one another. However, it's hockey... There's always some a-hole playing for the scouts. Staff: The staff are all great. From the front desk to Jaime H, they are all great. The only exception were the hockey officials (horrible). If you even say anything to a ref, you are met with an insult or taunt. Chris (adult hockey coordinator) does his best with the refs he can get. I got booted for breaking up a fight! Are you kidding me? The ref pushed me hard in the chest. spoke with Chris and the ref got himself fired. (There is more to the story, but that's a whole long story) Weights/cardio: They have nice equipment in good condition. Nobody bothers you. No complaints. Gym: I often used the gym to shoot hoops with my little boy. Clean place with plenty of hoops and basketballs. They could replace a few of the worn out balls, but I'm just being picky. Child watch: 5 stars, these people are GREAT! I always felt comfortable leaving my kids with them. In fact, my kids looked forward to it! They actually play with and read books to the kids! Value: I paid $49 a month. This included 2 hrs of child watch, drop-in hockey, gym, workout and $100 off league fees. For hockey, there is no better value to be found, PERIOD. I moved and realize I will never find a place like this elsewhere. Rare. I highly recommend the Y, not a pretentious day spa, but a family and community oriented rec center. Side note: I recommend the skate pro shop there. Scott is great and has became a friend. I don't know crap about hockey gear, but he has taken the time to teach me and give advice... Even if it means he doesn't get the sale. read more

This review is for the hockey league play only, as this YMCA is pretty good on the whole, but their hockey program is run like a red headed step child. I have been in the league for some years, and put up with the poorly run program mostly because it is close to my house, which helps with the late night games. I used to play drop in hockey every week as well as league play, but they switched to an all app sign up for drop in, and I have never been able to get into a drop in game since. The league has consistently had problems scheduling the games (we were scheduled to play on the 4th of July this season, and on the superbowl last season; last season we had a shortened season of only 10 games, my team was scheduled for 6 games at the awful 10:30 pm time slot, while 3 other teams had 3 or less games at this time (friends of the director I assume.) I can imagine scheduling can be difficult, the first time, but once you have a template... we shouldn't have these problems 15 years in.) It is a terrible place for beginners, as they let anybody play in whatever league they want. Beginner league is full of players that have clearly been coached for years (unlike any beginners I know,) and teams now have to recruit highly skilled 'ringers' if they want to get the puck at all. If you want to learn hockey by playing against players that played in college, and regularly skate end to end and score at will, without really any chance of being stopped by a beginner, then this is the league for you. Greg Rowe is in charge of the hockey program and is completely unreachable. I have never seen him at league play, and I have never gotten an email response from him to any question. read more

Yes, I am a fan of YMCA's. A pretty good gym that tries to meet lots of needs, for seniors, families, community. BUT-the YMCA of Boulder Valley cannot figure out how to register people for classes, either on line or in person. I have been taking the same class for 4 years and every month when I TRY to pay it is a major ordeal. Sometimes takes 30+ mins. in person, sometimes takes longer, usually cannot be done at all on line, it is just a nightmare. It is a monthly trial I truly dread. (I know, First World problems, but come on-join the 20th century at least.) read more

The Arapahoe Y includes an ice rink, large pool with slides (fully covered during the winter months), yoga, group exercise classes, basketball/gym, large area for cardio and weights, a childcare room, three meeting rooms, and a 1/8 mile track that circles the 2nd floor of the gym and cardio area. The facility is well maintained (a few cardio machines are currently out of order but will be fixed soon). This is a great facility for families, seniors or individuals. This Y is about the best you can find--indoor ice rink, outdoor pool for the kids, fun swim team program in the summer, and lots of fitness classes to choose from, But the reason I absolutely love it over all other rec centers & health clubs in the area is that there are so, so many treadmills at this Y. The Arapahoe YMCA is simply amazing. The facility is great, the equipment is excellent, the price is right, and it offers a large variety of classes and individualized exercise programs to help one get in shape, stay in shape, and stay healthy. I had turned in to a bit of a slug before I joined the Y four years ago, but with the encouragement of great coaches, trainers and instructors, I'm in the best shape of my life - and I plan to stay that way. read more

Great place. YMCA BV has very low membership fees and you get access to good gyms. I joined because of the ice rink at the Arapahoe Branch. Though other rinks were closer to me, I did the extra driving to play here because they have an electric zamboni. Its quite a sight to see, a cord connects the zamboni to an outlet in the ceiling; no propane smell, no dirty tailpipe. I honestly noticed a difference too, no more difficulty breathing or chest tightness. Support this rink and others like it who are making a commitment to clean indoor air. read more

Worst customer service and general manners I have EVER seen.... I left my prescription glasses at a family's house that I babysit for who belongs to the YMCA and because the family lives quite far, we decided it was easiest for the Mom to drop them off at the front desk of the YMCA so I could pick them up there. When I arrived (a day and a half later) the woman at the front desk told me I was SOL and that she had no idea where my glasses were and that they were not responsible for them.... I argued that their front desk staff should not have accepted responsibility for them (said they would hold them) if they could not be held responsible for them in which she responded "well you should have come the day they were dropped off". The Mom that dropped off my glasses informed them that I would be in within a day or 2 to pick them up (because I have grad school in denver) but never indicated that I would pick them up THAT NIGHT. Regardless, I am now without glasses and my insurance already covered a pair this year which means it will be completely out of pocket ($400 plus) which as a graduate student and nanny, I cannot afford. I have called the YMCA multiple times asking for updates and if I could speak to a manager and have not been called back. They just keep blaming me for the loss of my glasses and being completely rude. I have belonged to the YMCA, been a camper at a YMCA camp, and worked as a counselor at multiple YMCA camps and this is ridiculous... This is not the type of service or standards the YMCA stands for and I am beyond disappointed (and out glasses). read more
