We had a very sick younger cat. Dr. Carter was concerned and sent us to an ER vet. The ER vet diagnosed our cat with intermediate cell lymphoma, administered chemo and told us that additional testing was not needed. Dr. Carter got the test results and was not convinced it was lymphoma. She had us get different meds and order more testing. Within 48 hours of taking the non-lymphoma meds our cat was acting livelier than she had in months. Additional testing is still not 100% conclusive that we're out of the woods yet, but it is much more likely that our cat DOES NOT have cancer. Our family cannot thank Dr. Carter enough for her care and attention devoted to our lil' baby. We cannot imagine the route we would have taken had Dr. Carter not went the extra mile and treated our cat as if it was her own. We will be Dr. Carter patients for life! read more

We have found her and her staff to be extremely caring at all times. They treat their animal patients as if they were family. I moved to Ferndale 3 years ago. I wasn't thrilled with my old vet and was hoping for somewhere closer. Thru the various Ferndale FB forums, LaFond seemed like a good match. Not only was it close, it got lots of great compliments on social media. thru moving, COVID and procrastination I FINALLY made an appointment to update shots/wellness visit. I def feel like I made the right choice. Dr Carter is very nice, attentive and easy to talk to. Other clients in the waitroom we're all great and easy to talk to. The waiting room def had a warm and inviting atmosphere. A couple things I noticed as a first-timer: I had a later-in-the-day appointment, so, to be expected, appointments were running late,. Also, it made me nervous getting my dog out of worth mentioning.also, as an FYI, there is a side door and an unmarked front door. The front door is the entrance. Absolutely love this office, and Dr Carter has been amazing with all my animals. I followed her when she left her previous place, and the low key chill personalized vibe is a breath of fresh air compared to insanely packed vet offices. I never feel rushed, and I appreciate places that keep their client list manageable to offer great focused care. From sitting and talking me through whether it was my Boston's end, helping save the life of my Boxer from parvo then working with him as he became fear aggressive, to squeezing me in late in the day on a Friday for necessary treatment for my baby Pug, Dr Carter really is exactly the doctor I want for my babies. I trust her completely. I was surprised to see some comments from people that seem a bit ridiculous based on unrealistic expectations (Amazon delivering same day has turned us into a bunch of lunatics) and represent an unfortunate shift toward lashing out in reviews. If you don't know that the amount of pets has grown exponentially since the pandemic but the amount of vets hasn't, you should and know what that brings about. I've waited 4-6 hrs at emergency vets, when I haven't been actually just turned away. This is the state of the world currently. I hope Dr Carter and team keep their business small and focused. They might not be able to help everyone as a client and yeah I might need to find an alternative at night or on the weekends. I might need to wait a few minutes to hear back. But I appreciate the need to maintain the right work schedule to keep your sanity. Just like with a family doctor, I'd rather not have a vet who is stressed AF trying to do too much for literally everyone. I also expect to pay more for this kind of service (although honestly I'm not sure I actually do but I'd expect to), because it's not a behemoth like Chewy or vet offices with 13 doctors. None of us have time to wait like that as we all have jobs in our household and also we moved out of the area so we decided to switch Veterinarians. Now all of the sudden they can't find our files for our four dogs after the new vet called to ask for them. Linda actually yelled at the Secretary calling! She kept hollering at her that the computer is down but then again in the same sentence said the files were all paper so what does a down computer have to do with going and finding our paper files in the cabinet or wherever they store them? 5 years worth of records with 4 different dogs vanished without a trace! I am so glad that we switched because the incompetence and in organization of this place is mind boggling. read more

Trash!!! Throw this place where it belongs...in the trash! My mom recommended this place when I couldn't get an appointment at Patterson. Dr. Carter must have been a looker in her younger days because it sure isn't her gift of vet science that got her this far. My cat was very sick and was treated for UTI and was diagnosed with kidney disease. I tried to ask her several questions regarding things I had read about his condition and she was not able to answer. Dr. Carter couldn't tell me what stage he was in, if his inappropriate urination would stop after he completed antibiotics for his UTI or after he started a IV drip every other day, or his prognosis. Initially when we started his IV drip I was told each bag would be $15. I go to pick up his next bag and she charges me $30 for one bag!!! So I look up the treatment on Chewy...$11 per bag. I put in the order and the request for them to contact LaFond for verification. Apparently LaFond does not like patients to get their meds from Chewy (despite LaFond being outrageously higher) because it literally took them 1.5 to verify the script with Chewy!!! Linda, Dr. Carter's mother and Secretary, kept assuring me that she was going to do it immediately; however, it took me about 7 phone calls to them for them to "remember" to verify it. I don't even want to get on compassion...Dr. Carter has very little. And I mean VERY little! No compassion no empathy just business. This is not a veterinarian you want to frequent AT ALL!!!! As you can tell from her reply to other customers she is clearly a petty miserable woman who needs not practice medicine any longer. And I'm pretty sure her and/or her mother will reply to this with some pity party story of how they were so wronged and abused because they were cussed out for pushing my mom out of the door and denying our pets proper health care, that we paid for! Now, believe it or not, I'm the son of a now former vet doctor you used to practice veterinarian animal care off of 7 Mile and Greenfield up until late Summer/early Fall 2022 last year, so animal care is of TOP PRIORITY for me personally. I only JUST discovered that there was another vet hospital still operating in Detroit, and only a few blocks away from where I live at no less, so I decides to take a quick look-see into their office. Dr Carter and her staff are amazing. We take all of our animals to her, ever since she took over after Dr Favret left the business. Of course I was a bit nervous seeing a new vet but she was awesome and put all my fears to rest. Just recently we lost our 16 year old Pit Bull, basically to old age, but Dr Carter responded to my many, many questions after hours AND on Sundays when they are clearly closed. She did not have to do any of this, but she did. They are busy so of course make an appt. I thought I had found a good vet for my aging Maltese-Poodle...I was wrong! I brought him here because he began limping and I wanted to try a closer vet to my home. Dr. Carter seemed attentive in the exam but said there was "nothing really wrong with him". She prescribed some pills and his walking seemed to get better. However, that was short lived. I brought him back for concern of an ear infection. She took a Q-Tip to his ear and said no infection...$50. She never checked anything else on his body. The next week he was back limping. I needed a refill on the pills so I called the office and was informed that the pills were $7 but will now be $17. So I bought this batch but I knew I could probably get them cheaper on Chewy. So I put in a script with Chewy. Dr. Carter and her mother took exactly 1 week to ok the script with Chewy! Like seriously wtf is the problem?!?! Can patients not utilize a cheaper source??? But here's where it gets really bad...I actually had to go up there for them to put in the script. They were very upset with my pop up! I was LITERALLY pushed out of the door and the door slammed in my face!!! Mind you...I just want a prescription verified so I can alleviate the pain/discomfort of my aging dog! You would think a vet and it's staff would understand the importance of that, right? Guess not being that I was treated so poorly. So I took my dog to another local veterinarian and tried to explain what was going on. He stopped me mid sentence and said that my dog has arthritis in both sides of his hips. Further inspection revealed an eye infection, cataracts, a heart murmur & one loose tooth!!!!!!! What the hell was Dr. Carter doing when she examined him?!?! None of this was said during any of his exams with her!!! That many missed ailments is pure negligence! She has absolutely no business working as a doctor in any field if this is the type of "care" she gives to those in need. read more

Dr. Carter is an awesome woman with a heart to match. We got our puppy toward the end of the pandemic and we're not able to go to our regular vet due to back ups. We absolutely love Dr. Ivan. He's been a real lifesaver for our sick shelter pup. Though her history was unknown, he's been able to diagnose and treat all her various (numerous) issues as they surfaced. We are so thankful. We also have a cat that he's seen and he's great with him as well. The walk in hours are very convenient (we don't often have to wait) and his rates are so affordable. We highly recommend. I've only recently started taking my dog to Dr. Favret, and have visited him about three times now in the last few weeks (my dog has a UTI)(btw, did you know that dogs can get UTIs?) He has walk-in hours on Saturday mornings, and is always pleasant, courteous, and truly seems like he has my dog's best interest at heart. He is really good at breaking down what's wrong with your pet, and tells you exactly what you should to treat it, without pushing products or medicines on you. I pass by this vet at least twice a day and I never thought to make a visit there. It looks like it hasn't change since the early 1900's when it was probably built! So I was quite pleasantly surprised to find good reviews on Yelp. With my cats recent plunge in health, I decided to make my own review. This man is a cat whisperer. I have an ornery biter of an obese (and handsome) British Shorthair - no surprise here) whose stressed from constipation and swollen lymph nodes and Dr mellows my big boy right out. So we tried some meds for a few days and we needed another check up. No improvement in my cats health so Dr gave him (my cat) the shot and we'll know more with in a day. He didn't charge for the second checkup. He just charged for the shot. I'm not sure how many other vets would have done that. The guy's just cool. He seems so straight forward. No pussyfootin' and no games. A gentle giant. read more

I love this vet. Dr. Favret is of the old school, and always has or makes plenty of time for us and our pets. His bedside manner is superb; he even charmed my notoriously cranky cat. (She let him flip her on her back to examine her belly..a definite first!) He is very knowledgeable and gives good advice, particularly where medication is involved. Unlike our old vet, he doesn't throw a pill at everything without taking enough time to try to understand the situation. Getting an appointment is never a hassle. They even take walk-ins on Saturday (from 9-12). We take all our pets here and would be hard pressed to go anywhere else. read more

I took my 13 year old Boston there this summer for the first time, as my vet is up north. Dr Carter was kind , caring and knowledgeable. My dog had a neurological condition that was worsening, she did not sugar coat and try to sell me on expensive operations, that she knew would not fix the problem.
