This place is Amazing! I was helped by Jennifer and an older gentlemen that appeared to be the owner. They first did a Free Gait analysis of my feet by having me walk barefoot. I then informed them about discomfort i was feeling in my feet and the owner associated it with tight calf muscles. He explained to my how the foot is supposed to move and how tight muscles can affect your foot. They sized me up and I purchased a pair of Brooks Addiction 13. The shoes instantly made my feet feel better! Very pleased with the experience and I strongly recommend this place. read more

This is a shoe store for true athletes. That's not me. However, I decided one day to run a 3k marathon, super random, but I needed some shoes for the event. When I arrived at La Foot, I saw a bland array of fitness and hiking shoe options. When I say bland, I mean hella bland like grey on light grey ultra chunky senior citizen comfort style heel. Sure, DSW or the Nike store probably would have a much more fashionable option, but running 3,000 all at once seemed serious. The staff person greeted me and offered help right away. While I was searching for the most attractive shoe, she suggested first walking barefoot on the hardwood floor in order to recommend what type of shoe would benefit they way my foot hits the floor. I learned that my foot "pronates" which means they roll when I walk and my arch almost disappears. Without a supportive shoe I can developed knee and even hip problems later. Long story short I tried on multiple pairs and found a winner that feel incredible on my feet and great when I walk. I paid around $120 and my ass ran non stop the whole time! Ok, a gentle trot more than a run, but a huge accomplishment that couldn't have happened without my new shoes! read more

I developed a pretty bad case of plantar fasciitis about a year and a half ago. A friend suggested I go to Good Feet. After asking maybe 3 questions and taking a drawing of my feet, they sold me 3 pairs of orthotics saying that was necessary so I could get used to wearing their style. The problem resolved temporarily but for the past couple of months my feet just ache while walking and the plantar fasciitis has returned. It's safe to say my feet problems are worse now then when I went to "Good Feet". I went into La Foot on a busy Friday afternoon. They recommend making an appointment if you want to get fitted for orthotics. Unfortunately I didn't do that and I was leaving for a trip in the not too distant future where I'd be doing a lot of walking. Craig made the time to help me out. Craig demonstrated why I was having pain and while I hadn't even noticed showed me how tight my lower leg was and how that was making things worse. He showed me how the shoes I was wearing did not provide the necessary support and what I needed to look for in a solid pair of shoes (without trying to sell me anything). He got down on the floor and watched me walk for several minutes and took out a skeletal model of a foot to show me exactly what was going on. I got fitted for a custom orthotic for a third of the price of "Good Feets" non-custom, pain causing device (I won't call it an orthotic anymore). I highly suggest La Foot if you need a fairly priced custom orthotic. The staff absolutely knows what they are doing and goes out of the way to explain and educate. This review is for the "PHYSICAL THERAPY" side of the operation. Not that they're really separate, it turns out... My single visit was 20% stretching and 80% shoe sales pitch. The "therapy" did absolutely nothing for my injury. The shoes I was sold were nice, but (in retrospect) irrelevant to the injury. Mr. Therapist was super friendly, but completely uninformed. Fortunately, I visited a real physical therapist 2 months later. It turns out there's a very specific treatment course for this injury. Two weeks later I was back in action (trail running and track), and I've had no problems since. Bottom line: my insurance shouldn't have had to pay for this. Going to LaFoot is like having a personal Physical Therapy consultation for as long as you like. They genuinely want to help you solve whatever problems you have and they provide a ton of insight while ultimately letting you make the choice (only you know how you feel and what feels best). I recently started running 5k races and want to train and run my best while minimizing injuries. I ran my last 3 races in a pair of old sneakers and after observing other runners, it was clear that a few brands were dominant in the outdoor running arena for both men and women. I was time for me to upgrade. Where do I go from here? Yelp. I saw La Foot had five stars and long reviews so I had to check them out. I arrived and was helped right away. I didn't even take a look at their selection, just told the associate what I was looking for. She had me remove my shoes and walk across the floor. She then said I overpronate slightly and needed support for my high arch. She also measured my feet for the correct size and width. She then brought out 4 pairs to try and even allowed me to take them out on the sidewalk. After trying them all, it turns out the very first pair I tried was perfect. I needed sneakers and cleats. I read the reviews on Yelp before picking a place to shop for shoes. I decided that the reviews on LaFoot were very good so I chose them. What mattered most to me was receiving advice on what kind of shoe is best for my feet without the salespeople trying to just get me to buy the most expensive thing that is available. I could not have been happier with my experience at LaFoot. I don't know her name but one young lady answered ALL my questions about what kind of shoes are best for me (very important for me ) and analyzed my gait and recommended me the best shoes based on how I walk. I did not tell her how my gait is because I wanted to check to see if their advice is correct. The advice I got from her matched the advice I got from a doctor in the past so that confirmed that she knew what she was talking about. She pointed out some shoes to me and was very patient throughout the whole process with all my hesitations and questions. She also recommended against spending more money than necessary based on my needs. To this day, I am SOOOOO happy with the sneakers I bought from them. The sneakers I bought do give me blisters some times but I do not think that that has to do with the sneakers. When I went to the other store they other day, she was there again and told me that if my complaints continued, I can exchange the shoes even though the 2 week trial period passed A LONG time ago. I found these people that are so supernice and that I can trust and I will always buy my shoes from LaFoot as long as I live within 60 miles of berkeley. My girlfriend also got shoes from them and she is also very happy! I do not know how the owner of this place gives incentive to the salespeople to be so nice and truthful to customers (telling me I do not need to buy the more expensive shoes if I do not need them). Most places give incentives to their salespeople to just sell the most expensive thing possible and it makes for a TERRIBLE shopping experience and I never go to those places AGAIN! I was blown away by my experience with Christine and Josh at Lafoot Plus. Christine spent ~2 hours with me doing a 3-point gait analysis, trying out multiple running shoes, and most importantly putting in custom cut heel cushions and tongue cushions to take care of my multiple of injuries, discomforts, and foot / running issues. She was so knowledgable, so patient, friendly, never made me feel rushed, I felt like I was taking up too much time and she reassured me that it was okay. She's going to physical therapy school and it really shows. I saw her associate Josh meet with multiple customers and be really patient and understanding even when the customer wasn't the most friendly/understanding. Honestly this made my whole day. I've been having such a hard time finding the right shoe, I've tried several running shoes over 6 months and nothing has felt good. I'm truly blown away and honored and just so excited about this store. They also have their own custom ratings for shoes based on support and other metrics that I believe the owner who is also a physical therapist created with orthopedic specialists if I'm not mistaken. read more

I brought a loved one here to buy shoes based on the recommendation of a friend of a friend who likes the store. A quick check of the website states that the store was established by two orthopedic surgeons & specialists in sports medicine and technical footwear. They say they can offer all kinds of special foot goods (custom orthodics, etc) and they say their staff includes Physical Therapists and they are highly trained in biomechanics and kinesiology . They say they offer "superior customer service". So what's not to like? I was hopeful this would be the go-to place to buy shoes for my loved one. I have been to LaFoot twice. I went to try and fit my loved one's very hard to fit foot in a shoe. My loved one has issues galore with their feet, resulting in major foot pain and difficulty walking, running is not an option. First of all, it is a very busy store, be prepared to wait. I would not go as far as to say they have "highly trained" staff in the front (sales) portion of the store. I would say they are probably UC Berkeley students working part time and they probably major in physical therapy, biomechanics and/or kinesiology. There really was no "consultation" other than noting my loved one's feet were very wide and so due to their myriad of foot issues would need something a bit wider and longer than usual. The salesperson did help my loved one by re-lacing their shoes in such a way that it was more comfortable with their feet inside their shoe. The salesperson went on to recommend an opposite sex shoe in extra extra wide and although they did not stock the shoe, they could special order it and come back when it came. The shoe came in a week and so we went back to try them on. So the second trip "both" salespeople were busy and we waited probably between 15-20 minutes to be assisted on a weekday (close to closing). When a salesperson finally freed up, we got the shoes and it was not the right shoe - it was not the correct width. So now, after a long wait, their highly trained staff who offers "superior customer service" did not even get our order right! While we were being waited on, customers were coming in and interrupting our "service" with questions. That was a bit irritating. Because I was unimpressed with their "superior" customer service, we left and I went to a local competitor to order the correct shoe. Because of my loved one's mobility issues, it just was not worth it to me to make another trip to College Avenue (a very busy retail area), hunt out a parking space and navigate someone who can't walk very well to the store again to try on shoes I was not all that confident would be the right order. In conclusion, I think La Foot is advertising a bunch of services and amenities that are simply not there. I would not return, but in the end I wish they more matched the services they offer on their website. read more

This store is the only place I am willing to buy my running shoes. I've been to many of the other running shoe stores in Berkeley/Albany/SF and they do not measure up to La Foot. The store has a sort of...catwalk on the side so that the thoroughly trained staff (everyone who I have talked to who works there is very knowledgeable and also enjoy running) can diagnose your foot tendencies (do you overpronate--just a bit, severely, etc. or do you underpronate (supinate), or neither). This helps determine which shoe is going to be the most comfortable and most supportive. The workers that have helped me were able to tell me the tendencies of each shoe/shoe brand i.e. this brand makes the shoe a bit smaller in the heel, this brand makes their shoes a bit smaller, etc. They definitely know what they're talking about. As for wait times, I guess I have just been lucky and dropped in when the store was empty but I have never had to wait to talk to someone. But I do think it's worth the wait (plus there are so many other things on college ave. to do!), because they are all about making sure the customer has the perfect shoe for their foot type, and they will do whatever they can to help you with that. One time, they didn't have the specific color and size of a shoe that I wanted, and so they recommended some other stores (with not nearly as great service) so that I could find the right shoe in the right size and color. So, you can see that they aren't about just selling you shoes but more about helping you find the shoe that fits; they will also often look for the older version of a shoe (because the differences between last year's model and this year's model aren't going to be drastic, usually--just a marketing scheme) and it is cheaper by about 30%. The second time that I went to this store, they actually recommended that I purchase the less expensive shoe because it fit my over-pronating, slender foot much better. The only thing that I noticed though is that this store really loves Brooks shoes and will always bring out a pair--but once they saw that Brooks didn't fit my foot right, they immediately placed it aside. The socks they give you to try on always seem freshly laundered and clean (if you don't bring your own)--unlike many other stores. Also, like other stores, they will recommend you go run outside to get a feel for the shoes. Lastly, they also make custom orthotics for people with severe foot problems... I haven't had too much experience with this but I'm sure they are just as helpful. read more

I was recommended to this place by my Team in Training coach. The staff here is absolutely sweet and helpful. They provide custom orthotics, but I came in for some over the counter ones cause I couldn't afford the custom made ones. The store is quite small, but they have a variety of running shoes and gears. They have you walk across the store barefoot so they can look at how you walk and recommend shoes this way. They even let you run outside on the pavement to let you get a feel for the shoes, makes sense so it can help you with your buying decision. But I know some stores don't really allow this - a plus for Lafoot Plus on this one! It's also in a great location, filled with lots of other cute little boutiques. My initial experience was that of information sharing using basic vocabulary from a high school anatomy class. I then realized this LOW volume shoe store had to justify the 200- 300 percent retail mark-up. The employees had the nerve to try to tell a person that has 40 years of teaching high level gymnasts, how to stretch??? All the hype is just to justify the ridiculous prices. Great place to get your running shoes!! It's great for all levels, but it's basically a necessity if you are going to begin training for higher mileage. Good shoes are absolutely essential, and the experts here will help you find just the right one. For a good fit, they will watch you walk, then run, then probably walk/run again. Then they match you with about 4-5 pairs of running shoes that would fit your requirements of stability, motion control, width, etc. Then you try them all on, and they will even let you run around the block! How accommodating! My ONE concern was that La Foot gave me a different recommendation than Fleet Feet, and I have long been a patron of Fleet Feet... which of them do I trust!!!??? Probably both-- perhaps my feet have changed since I last saw Fleet Feet. (fyi, the shoes from Fleet Feet's recommendation were perfect. I have yet to see the long term effects of La Foot's recommendation, but so far, so good) read more

I went in to get my mom fitted for a pair of walking shoes today since she's been experiencing pain in her heels and arches. And, very consistent with experiences of previous Yelpers, we had quite a positive time while in the store. I didn't catch the name of sales rep who helped us, but she was very friendly and knowledgeable about the anatomy of the foot as well as the products that the store carries. While we were there, the rep did an assessment of my mom's stride, examined how her arches were resting compared to normal, and told us that she's overpronating by quite a bit. After that, she brought out four pairs of shoes for my mom to try. The whole process was quick and easy...we were in and out in about 40 minutes if that. One other thing to note is that while parking on College itself is a bit challenging, there's a metered lot west of College off of Russell, which was helpful and convenient. I went to LaFoot today for the first time. Like everyone else, I walked the catwalk barefoot a few times, learned that I over-pronate, and tried in 5 pairs of shoes. Unlike Nordstrom where they may/ may not actually help you put on the shoes, my LaFoot person helped me all the way through! Even when I went for a run around the block, she didn't ditch me to help someone else. So nice. She even showed me how to lace my shoe to minimize heel slippage. -1 for slightly crinkling your nose and furrowing your foreheadwhen I said I run in a pair of Nikes... i'm obviously not a seasoned runner and don't know anything about shoes! don't hate... read more

First time here, but I had walked past their shop many times. I decided that I wanted to start running for my health so I checked out the reviews on Yelp and figured I would give it a shot. The staff is super friendly and they really do try and identify the best fit of shoe for you based on your gait and bio-mechanical variables of the individual. I figured it is worth more to me to get some good advice and figure out what is specific to my needs than to shop at the Big Box stores and not really have more than general customer service. It is pretty cool that you get to try on the shoes and even take them for a jog to the corner up and down the street in front of the shop. It helped me narrow down my selections based on comfort. I would give this place seventy five stars if I could. Running is my special purpose but years of pounding had given me a bad case of the plantar fasciitis. I thought I was doomed to hobbling the rest of my sorry days. I met one of the workers in line at a drugstore and decided to check it out. I was ready to spend a pile of money on custom orthotics and special bus shoes but after analyzing my gait and checking me out, turns out I just needed good shoes and some Smartfeet. I"ve been back three times now and wish I could go more than every three months just to talk shop with the smart folks there. $150 was a tiny price to be able to continue doing the thing I most love. After buying shoes from complete idiots many times in the past, I was pleasantly surprised by the extremely knowledgeable staff at LaFoot, as well as the excellent selection of trail running shoes (and other styles). The woman who fitted me for my shoes didn't rush me at all, took measurements of my feet as soon as I sat down and spent a lot of time figuring out which shoe would be the perfect one. She was spot on! The shoes did very well on their first hike today. The prices are reasonable and normal for the quality of the merchandise. Sure, the internet may have a few of the shoes for slightly cheaper, but the savings aren't great enough to skip out on the great fitting and customer service. I needed crutches and most medical supply stores are closed on weekends. This one was open and they accept insurance. They also had lots of seats so I didn't have to stand on my bad foot while I was waiting for the girl to find the crutches. The only downside was that the girl seemed a bit confused about what she was doing. I think she was new, so hopefully she'll be more knowledgeable in a few months. This is the place to go if you want some real running shoes and the best customer service you'll ever find at a shoe store. The staff will have you take off your shoes and walk barefoot around to watch how your feet move. Then they measure your feet and explain all about your arches and the kind of shoes that are best for you. They test all of their products so you can see the breakdown of support, cushion and rebound for each shoe they carry. (And they only carry quality shoes here so you really can't go wrong). This is the kind of place where the staff actually puts the shoe on your foot for you, shows you some nifty runner's lacing techniques and doesn't mind if you need to try on 8 different pairs before falling in love with that New Balance catching your eye. Also, I had my physical therapy here with Craig after my knee surgery - he was super professional, gentle and helpful in getting me back up and running (well, walking) and even helped me work out a reasonable price when my student insurance expired. I definitely 100% recommend this place for good running shoes. LaFoot is the best! read more

This is an awesome place to go if you need to get the right pair of running shoes. They have a wide variety and range in prices. However this is not a place if you are looking to spend less than $50. What makes this place different than most, is the excellent customer service and return policy. They want to make sure that the "shoe fits." They watch you walk and actually let you take the shoes for a test run. And if the first pair doesn't work, just take them back (with receipt of course). They also offer physical therapy, exercise bands and heart rate monitors. They have a wide range of products and everyone is really helpful and knowledgeable. read more

I had the pleasure of visiting La Foot because I sprained my ankle and was searching for an ankle brace. My orthopedist did not tell me which ankle brace to purchase but rather the one I felt most comfortable in. I was referred to La Foot by SOL - Sports & Orthopedic Leaders in Rockridge. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and patient. They answered all my questions, explained how to adjust the various braces, assisted in putting the braces on correctly, waited while I attempted to walk, and all in all provided great customer service. They were not pushy in any way. They do accept insurance for certain braces which is great because some of the braces can be expensive. Check with them about specifics, my insurance will be accepted but my coverage puts them out of network. While trying on the braces we also discussed their running shoe selection and other items for sale in the store. This is a great place to go if you are active and/or a runner seeking great advice such as the proper shoe based on your gait. They also provide custom orthotics and some rehabilitation services by appointment. They don't dispense medical advice. Simply the best shoe store experience my mother has ever experienced. I can't praise Christine, Craig and the entire staff enough. They've been patient, generous, and have gone above and beyond to help my mother find comfortable shoes as she suffers from extreme hammer toes after years of using her feet as an health care and fitness instructor. Having wide feet as well, it's been an odyssey for her to find a brand and make that doesn't rub or scrunch her toes, heels or sides of her feet. We explored women's sizes, men's sizes of multiple brands. Their genuine concern for her well-being is touching. After over a year of trial and error we have finally found a solution. After coming here for 3 years these people have lost my business I just got off the phone today with Michelle who reassured me over the phone that something was going to be done about my shoes and when I came in a whole complete different scenario went down also too the lady who was helping me always kept dismissing my claims and facts I was pointing out about the last two shoes also she kept folding her arms like she was completely uncomfortable with me and not only just that they made me go to Brooks the company itself to sort out the issue of their shoes completely failing on me I have now spent $400 with them just to get shoes that keep getting holes in them and they're not trying to do anything to make it right or give me a refund or meet me in the middle they have totally lost my business also too I don't need to be treated unfairly and with racial biases I honestly believe if I came in as a white person she would have stuck to her word and. For anyone interested in wearing proper shoes: runners, soccer players, walkers, etc... They do custom orthotics and carry a lot of sports medicine equipment as well. As soon as I walked into the door I was helped immediately. The lady making orthotic inserts dropped what she was doing and catered to my needs almost instantly. She came right over and asked me what I was shopping for. Afterward, she had me take my shoes and socks off and watched me walk back and forth to analyze my step. She then began to explain which kind of shoe I needed and pointed to their selection that fit my criteria. Next to each shoe is a little rating chart which gives the type of shoe based on if you over pronate, under pronate, etc... She took the size of my feet and then began to bring out shoes that she thought matched my gait. One by one she placed the shoes on me, tied them, and had me walk around/run in them to feel them out. The first two times I went to this place, they helped. About a year and a half ago, someone suggested they could recommend a good orthotic for the metatarsal pain I was having while dancing. They did, and the orthotics helped. More recently, since I've developed bunions, I went there because I wanted a pair of supportive shoes for walking that would keep my heels in place. They analyzed my gait and recommended a pair, and also some orthotics that I could put into walking shoes I already had. Unfortunately, I recently lost that contained my dance shoes and the orthotics. Today I went back to buy more orthotics. I described them. The young woman there asked if they were white. I said no, blue and green. She said they didn't have anything like that. I said the color wasn't important, what I needed was something with the same function. She repeated that they didn't have anything like that. She finally asked what their purpose was, and I told her they were to relieve metatarsal pain when dancing. She asked if the ones I'd had stuck on the insole of the shoe. I said no. She said they didn't have anything like what I wanted. I said it didn't matter whether they were adhesive or not. She said the only thing they had was white adhesive pads and they didn't carry anything like what I wanted. She was offhand and somewhat snotty, and clearly didn't believe I knew what I was talking about or that I had in fact bought the orthotics there. I said the place had a good reputation for knowing what they were doing, but I didn't get that impression now. She shrugged. I went for custom orthodics for an old injury, i have had them for 20+ years and they are worn out. Without even looking at my feet Craig starts telling me i need a higher arch support. I have ridiculously high arches. i replied that i didn't want orthodics with even higher arches and he gets up and tells me that i should take my business elsewhere. Unbelievable. Didn't ask me why i had that opinion, not interested in a dialogue, just walked away. I do not recommend. The rest of the staff was great and they have a nice shoe selection so i recommend them for that. read more

Both my husband and I have been regular customers at LaFoot for years. We have been helped many times by Greg and his knowledgeable staff. We have always been very pleased by the extremely knowledgeable and professional service we have received. However, my recent experience with Loni was truly exceptional. I had been suffering from a mysterious malady on my foot. My doctor wanted to do extensive lab work before allowing me to see a podiatrist. When I told Loni about my symptoms, she suggested a possible course of treatment, while making the necessary disclaimers about seeking medical attention if the problem continued. Well, Loni was right on the money in her analysis. She placed a small adhesive pad in the proper position on my shoe insert and I am no longer in pain! In addition, Loni spent over 30 minutes with me, trying on many different shoes until I found the perfect, right pair. I am so happy with my new shoes.
