I'm one of those people who orders a dozen shoes from Zappo's hoping to find a cute comfortable pair only to return all of them sometimes. I walked in to Shoes on Solano during a sale years ago, and found my go to shoe, the Sole Terra Camdyn Flat. I can walk miles in these shoes! They are cute with both pants and skirts. I'm on my 4th pair. They last a long time because they are so well made. Colors rotate - you can always get black - but I'm hoping they will make the red ones again. Always a look out for good quality shoes , I either love the design or I don't . I love shoes that are well made with style and comfort and I am always on flats and wanted something more dress up then my flats, walking shoes etc. I had walked past this store several times in the past and seen shoes that have caught my eyes and boy am I glad that I took the time and ventured in. I do have my favorites though ,like Ecco shoes , Cole Haan , Brooks, Sacony, shoes that don't break the bank and last for a while . Now I have found a store that sells shoes with great customer service and are run by Women . Styles that I can wear to work /office and leisure . I highly recommend this store and they do have another branch in Walnut Creek . I chose the brand Sole Terra from Spain for this time and looking forward to try more styles from this store . read more

I had absolutely no plans on growing up but, it's kinda out of my hands at this point. And one thing I'm beginning to recognize is that as we grow and mature from young tenderonis into the fine wine that life makes of us, we start to prioritize differently. Part of that means taking care of things we've often taken for granted before the wisdom of a lil' age was bestowed upon us... Things like what you wear on those friggin feet, bro. Ten years ago, I would summon my inner Kameron "I've got heels higher than your standards" Westcott and parade around in a pair of pumps clearly designed by shoe sadists with little regard. But nowadays? Catch me strollin' into Shoes on Solano to make better, comfier, smarter and less masochistic choices about my zapatos. Trust me, I didn't arrive at the decision to stop wearing detrimental devices of my own volition. When I stopped in for the first time, I was less than thrilled about the prospect of comfortable, functional and practical shoes. Flash forward to being warmly greeted by Emmalee and Milani, two amazing sales associates who quickly educated me on the designed-in-house darling pairs that the retailer is well-known for. I quickly started to gain confidence in the importance of wearing shoes that don't damage your stance-age. Milani and Emmalee both went out of their way to explain the benefits and blessings that were bound to come my way as a result of my all-growed-up decision-making. By the time these lovely gyals were through with me, I was beyond through with any pair that didn't ascribe to my newfound tenet. I'll be back, y'all. A shoe store that focuses on comfort and style? SIGN ME THE EFF UP. They got the full range of shoes that are stylish, but don't wreck havoc on the feet. From booties, to wedges, to clogs to sandals; they have it all. It's a small store, so not a crazy amount of shoes, but a nice variety and even some styles that I would never wear, but I think some people would get down on. I ended up getting a spring style of these super cute Dansko clogs at about 25% off in August, and it seems that they may always have a few styles on sale. Staff was super nice, they have a frequent buyers program and overall, I'm a happy camper! read more

I've always hated shoe shopping because of that great divide: comfortable or cute? It was always one or the other. But Shoes on Solano has changed all that for me. I bought shoes there last week and both pairs have turned out to be just as comfortable as they seemed to be when I tried them on. And I've gotten compliments on them. I tried on 5 pairs of boots, water proof and regular, and every pair was stylish and completely comfortable. The salesperson who helped me, Ronnie, was very friendly and helpful and extremely knowledgeable about the sizing and design of the different brands they carry. They don't carry any shoes that are cheap or cheaply made but they also don't seem to carry any shoes that aren't extremely comfortable and attractive. Unless I move from the area I'll probably never shop anywhere else for shoes -- except running type shoes, which they don't carry. read more

I wouldn't normally go all the way to Oakland for shoes, but I was looking online for a store that carried mid-range and higher-end, comfortable-but-not-ugly shoes, and I found Shoes on Solano. I haven't been to their Berkeley location (though now I plan to) but I checked out their new store in Oakland. The staff all seemed friendly, but I was specifically helped by Tamsin. She was super helpful, and knew a lot about the different shoes they carried. The store was clean, their stock seemed well organized, and the whole experience was positive. I think I'll be coming here every time I need shoes from now on. read more

Today I went by Shoes on Solano and once again Emily was there to offer supreme class service. I remember going to this store one time before and having her help me. She is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to shoe sizing and comfort. She will not let you leave until she makes sure you got a comfortable shoe on that looks great. She's been employed at this store for what seems like years, so much that a gentleman came by today to buy socks here and remembered her help. There are some people who leave great impressions, and give quality and passionate service, and this one lady does it all. Luckily too this shoe store's great selection on comfort and cute shoes will not let you down ladies! The staff are usually friendly, but they def should've sent Victoria (or maybe her name was Veronica) Home cuz she smelled incredibly toxic, to the point that I could smell the alcohol when she wasn't even talking to me. She was clearly very hungover and didn't seem to want to be helpful, so I will try and avoid any future interactions if I see her there again. The rest of the staff is great though. read more

How exciting one of my favorite shoe stores opened up in Oaktown! Woot woot! Same amazing shoes, same incredible customer service. I literally could go in and just hang out with those people all day trying on shoes. They carry some of my favorite lines- Dansko, Earth, gentle souls and of course Clarks. Believe it or not Clarks has such fashionable shoes that I can actually wear all day at work! Love it. They know my size, always help me with my decisions on what lasts longer, looks better and feels the best by their experience and most of all they are patient. This store is even nicer than Solano because I can go with the kids and bribe them with ice-cream right next door! Ha! I have very finicky feet and can only wear shoes with a rigid sole through the instep, removable footbed and 1/2" heel. The feet make me suffer when they don't get what they want, so whenever I go into a shoe store, I scan the room and make a beeline for the most promising-looking section. Once there, I quickly check the footbed and flex the front half of every shoe with a 1/2" heel, rejecting almost all as unsuitable. Unlike most shoe clerks who don't know what to do when faced with this bizarre ritual, Myranda recognized my behavior for what it was and promptly steered me to the only three shoes in the store that met my needs. I bought 2 of the 3. Myranda was not only knowledgeable about the attributes of all the shoes in the store, but also gave me practical tips on how to help my shoes last longer. Unlike most other clerks, she removed the foot beds before bringing me shoes to try on, so I didn't have to wrestle with them, and offered a smart solution when I was between sizes of an otherwise perfect pair. The store has a good returns policy: you can get a refund or exchange if you return a pair within 2 weeks as long as they aren't worn outside. Most stores only give you a week or 10 days, and some will only give you a credit, not a full refund. Another bonus: there's a frequent buyers program. Buy 5 pair and get a $25 credit of your next purchase of $100 or more. My feet and I will be back. read more

I love the shoes here - they are comfortable, stylish and supportive! The best are the "house" shoes - the Sole Terras. These shoes are like pillows for your feet. Big thanks to Emmalee for showing them to me and helping me try on so many different styles and sizes! I almost got the wrong size for the Sole Terras because they were so snug, but Emmalee is like the foot whisperer and she just KNEW what my correct size was. I now have 3 pairs of shoes and they all fit perfectly (and I've been wearing them for a couple months now)! These are definitely the most comfortable shoes I've owned, and my feet are very happy in them. read more

I finally ventured into this store, and was surprised to find comfy, stylish shoes in the SoleTerra store brand. It happened to be a sale event, so I got them for a bit less. The shoes are very comfortable, even moreso than Munro brand Although they are not made in the US, they are crafted in Portugal, the arch support is wonderful and the soft leather seems durable so far.I found the saleswomen to be great, very helpful and well informed. Tamsin helped me find a pair that support my exceptionally high arches, have soft foot beds and are both light and flexible. But the bonus is that they are stylish enough to wear with a skirt. Went to Millenium for Sunday Brunch and ate a bit too much so decided to walk around to burn off a few calories (as if that's possible). Stumbled upon Shoes on Solano (Oakland) and was very impressed with the selection of shoes available. Many of my favorite brands are well stocked in the medium sized shop. Victoria was very friendly and helped me locate a few styles that could accommodate my highly challenged feet. Best of all, she pointed to a pair of shoes that were on sale (and she correctly guessed my size) and voila, they fit me perfectly. What a great find. I was looking for comfortable yet stylish shoes, surfing countless websites but with no luck. It was serendipity for sure when I stepped into the shop, which I now labelled 'feet comfort zone'. I will definitely go back to look for more styles in the future. Thank you Victoria for your wonderful help and your patience in dealing with my 'incorrigible' feet.
