As an active 71-year-old who did trail runs, long hikes, yoga, and weightlifting, I was shocked, in late March, to have a sudden, disabling left meniscal knee injury. When I found out it would take weeks for me to get a Medicare authorized PT session, I learned about Pro+Kinetix via its internet reviews, made an appointment and was seen the next day. The price was well worth it as I had a big upcoming hike in Spain and needed to heal ASAP. When I saw that Pro+Kinetix was for active people, I was so relieved. Two years, and at least one new illness/setback later, I still cannot more highly praise the most amazing Physical Therapist ever, Dr. Roland Jenkins. When I encountered a pretty rare medical setback late 2024, Dr. Roland did extensive homework to figure out how to help me recover in a safe way, with yet another modification. After spending 106 days in bed with said illness, I was cleared for physical activity in March. Dr. Roland willingly took me back as a patient . He came up with a safe and gradual program, really taking into account the weak physical condition I was in after so many days in bed. Mind you that's ON TOP of my "normal" complex spine, and hypermobility issues. Dr. Roland is not only an excellent professional, he's a great human being. My first time seeking PT, and I'm so glad I found Pro-Kinetixs for my knee issues. I started having pretty significant clicking and a burning sensation above my knees after doing a new exercise routine for a few months, and then ended up with hip/glute pain compensating for the knee issues. Before coming to Pro+Kinetix, I waited longer than I should have--probably a few months. Like a lot of active people, I thought I could just "run through it" and that it would resolve on its own. The main obstacle was honestly a mix of stubbornness and not wanting to slow down my training. I came in with a sports hernia and ongoing hip flexor issues. At my baseline, I was running about 60 miles a week and playing soccer twice weekly. By the time I sought help, I was down to ~20 miles a week and had completely stopped playing soccer. My husband, who is a devoted client of Dr. Roland at Pro+Kinetix, finally convinced me to try this place after a seemingly permanent, painful shoulder knot just got worse no matter what I did to fix it. I'm in my early 60s and basically fit but not athletic, so I had concerns that I'd be out of place at Pro+Kinetix. Nope! I was welcomed warmly by Dr. Katrina and could tell immediately she was attuned to my situation. I've made tremendous progress with Dr. Roland at Pro+Kinetix. I've had failed back surgery syndrome and chronic low back and leg pain for 25 years and no one has helped me as much as him, and I've seen just about every kind of practitioner. I thought I had tried physical therapy before; three different times with different therapists and every time it seemed pretty useless. But what Dr. Roland does is altogether different. This is physical therapy done the way it is supposed to be done. I came to Dr. Roland with an acute and pretty severe flare up of sciatica. This is on top of the decades of chronic pain and the resultant deconditioning I experienced. From the very beginning everyone at Pro+Kinetix was very supportive. My first call was returned by a staff Physical Therapist and based on what I told him he recommended the appropriate therapist for me. Sessions are a full hour long with the therapist (not an assistant) and everything is custom tailored to your specific situation and needs. There's no cookie-cutter medicine here. I tried for years without success to put together a program that would help me without aggravating my symptoms and pain and risking hurting myself further. Every time I either aggravated my symptoms to the point where I had to stop or I hurt myself even more. Within 10 weeks, the sciatica had vastly improved. Things that were difficult before, like driving (pressing the brake pedal was really painful) or cleaning the house or doing laundry, or even socializing became possible again. It was huge progress. But Dr. Roland didn't stop there and we set out on a path to help with the significant deconditioning I was in and build up more strength, endurance and resilience. It's been about 4 months now and I'm doing things like barbell squats and Romanian deadlifts- things I never in a million years thought I'd be able to do again. And I have no doubt that I'll keep making progress under his guidance. One more thing- for someone like me who has been to so many surgeons, pain clinics, therapists, chiropractors etc, it's easy to lose trust in healthcare providers. Many of them have actually done me a lot of harm instead of help and the vast majority of them are dismissive gas-lighters. And don't even get me started about dealing with insurance. Before trying Pro+Kinetix I thought I had tried everything and was starting to feel like there were no other treatment options for me. But I feel so lucky to have connected with Dr. Roland and to be able to let go and trust his judgement. I haven't had that for a long time. Dr. Lorraine and Pro+Kinetix have fundamentally changed the game for me. As a former collegiate football athlete with 4 shoulder surgeries and major instability over the years, my outlook on PT was that I could get to quasi stability without ever fully returning to strenuous activity (only golf). Missed out on pick up basketball, softball leagues, etc. I came to this conclusion prior to Pro+Kinetix because my experience with PT over the past 20 years has been a short program (sometimes minimal interaction with a PT) and a send off to maintain your own exercises which eventually plateau. They have also never been truly athlete focused. P+K is built different. Dr. Lorraine created a customized program (full 1 hour focus each time) with rigorous testing and has pushed me to levels I have never thought I would reach. Pickleball? You bet. Tennis? We're actually there. A year out from the most recent surgery and am confident we can reach new levels. I can't recommend Pro+Kinetix and Dr. Michael highly enough. I contacted Pro+Kinetix to resolve my lower back strain caused by golf, and from my very first interaction I was impressed. Before seeing Dr. Kassina, I was dealing with sharp pains down my legs that had sidelined me from training for a half marathon and kept me from working out consistently for years. My main goals were simple - I wanted to be able to squat, lunge, and run a couple of miles with my kids again. I was always skeptical of physical therapy. I had stopped running because of a knee injury and just resting was not resolving the problem. I am so happy I went to ProKinetix and worked with Michael. He helped me successfully run my first half marathon while dealing with my longterm knee and foot pain! I'm a runner (31F) and also have an active job/lifestyle, so after being sidelined by plantar fasciitis for over 2 years and dealing with regular knee pain for over 5, I finally got fed up and decided to go to ProKinetix because I really wanted to run the Monterey Half marathon this year. I had been to Kaiser PT before but they essentially told me to do a few exercises and suggested quitting my job/not standing as much (lol), and sent me on my way. My experience with Michael was so different. He integrated his knowledge of injuries with the realities of my lifestyle and obligations and helped me come up with a manageable plan to slowly work toward my goals. We built upon the plan each session and he really helped me integrate thinking about my injuries into my daily life- both working to strengthen my body and reminding me of the necessity of rest/recovery. He was also very real with me, and was honest about the challenge of what I was trying to do and the ongoing process it would be. Also I really just enjoyed going to my sessions because he's friendly and it was fun chatting while we worked! It took a LOT of work, but having his direction and expertise helped me stay on track and I finally started to really see improvement with my pain. I started seeing him in June, and in November I ran my half marathon and felt strong the whole way! This is definitely a case of you get what you pay for. It's not cheap but it's a great place, and building a relationship with someone who actually knows and cares about you and your specific condition/lifestyle is just so valuable for recovery. For me I think of it as investing in myself and it was so worth it when I saw the rewards coming back to me in both everyday life and achieving my big goal! read more

I had shoulder pain that seemed to come out of nowhere, and I kept thinking it would go away if I just rested it long enough. But, as you've probably guessed, it didn't go away even after a year of resting it. After looking at different offices here on Yelp, I ended up choosing Pro+Kinetix due to the glowing reviews. It's out of network for me, but it was worth it to pay out of pocket. Dr. Roland is fantastic. He's like a detective. At my first office visit, where I vaguely gestured to where I thought the pain was coming from and how it was feeling, he was able to pinpoint exactly what was going on. He gave me exercises to perform at home throughout the week to strengthen my mental connection to--and literally strengthen--the muscles I wasn't using. He also provided stretches to relax the muscles that had been picking up all the slack, probably for years, and causing pain. We did all these exercises together in person, so I knew exactly how to do them at home. He also sent me a link to an online portal with instructions and videos as reminders. He would check in to see how I was doing at each office visit. With other PTs I've seen in the past for other injuries, they would get defensive when I'd tell them something in their program didn't work for me. By contrast, Dr. Roland is kind and a great listener. He adjusted the stretches and strength training I was doing to fit my needs better. Within about 10 sessions, my shoulder pain was gone. And as I've kept up the strength training and stretching, I've been pain-free ever since! I continued to work with him on other more minor pain issues, and he helped me heal those, too. If I ever get injured again, I'll be back (I'm a runner, so injury is likely, lol). read more

A pretty severe ankle sprain came back to bite me several years after I thought it had healed on its own (ha, critical error #1). Some aching I had ignored started a cascade of injuries after taking up running along with the climbing and hiking that was already part of my usual routine. Unfortunately for me, I was initially referred to a podiatrist by my PCP, who did not do much by way of strength or mobility tests, and misdiagnosed me with nerve pain. I was prescribed lidocaine gel and told that the pain will never go away. I sought a second opinion and was referred to a second podiatrist, who did not want to hear my history, insisted I had terrible flexibility (I'm actually a wet noodle when it comes to flexibility) without having me demonstrate with any strength or mobility exercises, and rushed me out the door after trying to sell me on Hoka shoes, Hoka slides, and "$500 orthotics". During this entire process, I kept requesting for a PT referral and was ignored. Critical error #2: I decided to take matters into my own hands by way of YouTube University. But I fundamentally didn't know what the root cause of my injury was and saw little to no progress. Ultimately, I ended up essentially stopping all activity for 3-4 months which did make my initial pain go away, but also left me with additional weaknesses and imbalances. Injuries continued to cascade. A PT friend finally was able to assess me and found an extraordinarily weak peroneal muscle, and recommended I go out of pocket for PT. That's when I met Dr. Lorraine. From initial assessment to our ongoing sessions, the experience has been an incredible breath of fresh air. At intake and at our first appointment, Pro+Kinetix and Dr. Lorraine took a thorough history, explained her reasoning asking certain questions, performed hands-on assessments, and guided me through several strength/balance/mobility exercises to determine what might be the mechanisms of injury. Dr. Lorraine spends the entire hour with you, and each session is tailored to where you're at in your recovery. My treatment journey has had some curve balls thrown in because I can't sit still, so I added a couple of acute injuries to my chronic ones. But Dr. Lorraine took them as they came, and pivoted where needed. I look forward to every session, not only because I can feel and see myself getting stronger, but Dr. Lorraine is also just a fun person to chat with as well. I am at a much better place than I was a year ago, and can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Good PT is magic. And Pro+Kinetix and Dr. Lorraine is good PT. read more

Dr. Kassina addressed issues associated with pickleball/tennis elbow. When I initially came to her, I had elbow pain when brushing my teeth, lifting cups, and general weakness in my arm. We created a plan to strengthen my forearm, shoulder, and core to support my pickleball game. During recovery, I also managed to strain my back while playing pickleball. Dr. Kassina seamlessly switched from working on arm/shoulder to working on back stretches and strengthening. She also determined I had weakness in my leg and hip due to a past injury and incorporated exercises to strengthen weak areas.
