It seems a lack of communication between the Oakland store and billing, along with poor communication with me from the store staff, led to my confusion about the invoices. A friendly guy and nice office girl too. Thanks to my pes cavus I've been to a lot of podiatrists in my day, most have been moderately helpful, though some gave me conflicting advice, but Dr. Lawrence, who I saw today probably knows more than any of them, and that he's an athlete is a big plus. He was able to succinctly explain my exact problem, and like why I have hammer toes and what the best kind of tennis shoe would be, and the best type of boot, without ever selling me anything, he didn't even push his favorite shoe store on me. read more

Recent experiences with the expert Alyssa Tschann have been great, she takes me seriously and goes the extra mile. The titanium bar in my foot makes it crooked, but she has found me shoes and orthotics that are the best possible for off-the-shelf. I'm even getting custom shoes that I think are going to be gorgeous! Reception staff is very nice and accommodating, and the practice accepts referrals from Kaiser Permanente podiatrists. read more

Dr. Brian was great oh, I came in for my final adjustment on my boot before I leave for Tennessee. I've been working with him for some times and I've always got great service. If I have a problem with always come by then and I took care of it all I can say is that I've always been treated kind and courteous and always got great service. This orthopedic office was wonderful. I look after an elderly gentleman who needed special shoes. They were extremely thorough and patient too. Their follow through was as good as their intake. The shoes are if I dare use the word, "Perfect". We had to wait a bit to get them, but it was worth it! read more

Totally NOT a good experience at all!! If I could give no stars I would to this place! I went to my foot doctor who prescribed an insole for my shoe to help with my problem. My doctor gave my Lawrence Orthopedics' business card and told me to give them a call, which I did and spoke to a lady on the phone. I told her I had Medicare-Medical insurance. She said "OK, that sounds good." We then made an appointment for 1pm today 1/17/2013 and I made it there for my appointment only to find out that first, they had no record of my appointment, and second, that they indeed do NOT take my insurance. I then asked to speak to a manager and was told she was not there today. How can they be open and operating their business without a manager in charge on duty at all times? I then asked to speak to whoever was in charge that was there and I got this woman named Jerry. She was not very much help and instead of taking responsibility for the mistakes that were made she just made excuse after excuse as to why things turned out the way they did with no offer to accommodate me in any way. Overall going here was simply a total waste of my time! I am very disappointed and upset that they did not handle my situation better. read more

I went here for my mom because her orthopedic doctor wrote a prescription for a "brace" for her broken arm. We had to go in THREE times for Paul to tell us that he couldn't do anything. The first time, he just looked at my moms arm to know which size of brace to order. The second time the brace wasn't there yet. And when we went in the third time, we were told that he would not be able to take off the sling because the doctor hadn't explicitly stated that he could take it off. I don't know why he waited until the third time to tell us this. My mom has several other injuries from a car accident. He would've saved my mom the discomfort of sitting in a car and going out THREE times when she could've been resting. We found another orthopedic doctor for my mom and didn't want anything to do with this place. So we asked for a refund for the brace. It's been over a month now. They got the address wrong the first time but I don't know what went wrong the second time. read more

From day one I was not happy here. The guy that helped me out was the owner I was told. He was very short when speaking, seemed grouchy, and acted as if he was completely burnt out! He was not friendly or warm at all & seemed to get frustrated to answer any of my questions when I was simply trying to understand my condition a bit more and/or when asking questions about my needs, etc. I was there to be fitted for custom orthodics in my shoes & for some new supporting/stable shoes for my PTTD ankle and foot condition. He basically told me that I needed their ugly, bulky, Frankenstein looking diabetic bulky/heavy shoes which I was to wear every day which would supposedly help my feet & ankles. He told me that this was the only shoe they had and after they arrived for pick up I hated them and the orthodics because the inserts were huge, bulky and outdated! I finally tried a new spot in Alameda and they had a selection of many different shoes there and/or which I could order if I wanted. They also had thin, comfortable, orthodic inserts. I remember also after receiving my shoes from Grouchy Bob where I told him I hated the shoes and he said "this isn't a shoe store". What a jerk. Well Bob, the other places are, and you should be. Get with the times man. Shame on you for trying to make me look like a guy in his 80's. Maybe it's time to retire you old grouchy fart! Bad business from the owner himself. It was obvious that even the girls at the front desk knew of his attitude after I gave them a look of confusion. read more

Years ago I had a bad skiing accident, and after multiple surgeries I ended up with missing tendons and muscles in my foot, and I need a brace to walk. The brace must provide support not only at rest, but also in motion, and as I age, has to be carefully and often adjusted; Tony of Laurence Orthopedic has been doing this with both patience and thoughtfulness for a number of years; he has come up with important suggestions for improving the brace, and is always willing to do another adjustment. The previous lab I worked with was completely unwilling to do so. Despite this injury, I can walk, lead a normal life and even go hiking; it is obvious to me that I owe this to the devoted and intelligent work of the people at Laurence Orthopedic. read more

Our child experienced an outstanding result that was a direct consequence of Bob's expertise providing phenomenal care. Our child required multiple devices to correct an orthopedic problem associated with growth. Bob expressed concern and sympathy while acknowledging the discomfort and pain caused by the appliance. He was always available to make adjustments to the device, suggest methods for minimizing the discomfort, and ways to camouflage the device for a sensitive child - particularly when noticed by classmates. The following is one reason why Bob is exceptional: during one of the custom molding sessions, the device did not conform to the body as planned. Bob acknowledged this and ordered a new orthotic - at least several hundred dollars and he absorbed the cost - he did not even mention this to us! Our child's growth rate necessitated the creation of a new orthotic when the insurance plan would not cover the cost. Bob recognized that the reason for the replacement was outside the usual plan benefits and appealed for an exceptional circumstance - this resulted in the insurance plan covering the cost. We are very appreciative of Bob becoming a member of the treatment team, not just a technician, but a caring and concerned member who was always supportive of our child's needs and seeking strategies to maximize the outcome. Even if our child's outcome had not met expectations, we would write the same comments. However, we do believe that Bob's expertise was a determining factor in the overall very positive outcome. Finally, he dedicated the time to explain to our child the reasoning for the orthotic and how to achieve the best outcome. With a heartfelt appreciation - Thank you Bob! read more

Unfortunately, my experience with Lawrence was not a good one. I'm retired military and the professional services of Paul was one of the worst of my 27 years of Army service. The inserts were returned three times due to poor workmanship and material. Each return, I was ensured the next pair would be appropriate. Unfortunately, Paul only polished up the old pair and re-presented them to me. I eventually, turned the inserts into my referring VA doctor for inspection. I had to relocate to a new vendor to receive quality inserts. read more

I have Charcot's Joint as a result of diabetes. Even though I wear custom made shoes because my feet are so fragile, adjustments are sometimes needed. I have been working with Paul for several years. He is not only very knowledgeable about my condition and the importance of prevention he is caring and conscientious. If I am having a problem with my shoes (which for me can have a disastrous result) Paul will continue modifying the shoes until they fit perfectly. I am thankful to be working with Paul. read more

I HIGHLY recommend Bob at Laurence Orthopedic. Our daughter was diagnosed with rapidly increasing scoliosis at age 12 and we are sure her success in stabilizing her curve is largely due to Bob's extraordinary expertise, experience, commitment, and patience over the years. Not only did Bob take great care designing each of her 3 braces, using the latest technology (his many years of experience and involvement in ongoing R&D in this area were especially valuable to us here), so that the brace fit practically "like a glove" (and my impression is that this is NOT the norm with scoliosis braces); he also showed amazing patience and resourcefulness in those interim periods when she was starting to outgrow one brace but wasn't yet at the point of needing a new one--adding and then removing padding, doing everything he could to maximize the efficacy of the brace while keeping it wearable. His attitude was that of a great coach: he would push our daughter to go as far she could (accepting just a bit more padding...) but was always sympathetic (and ready to adjust the brace yet again!) when she reached her limit.
