I came here with some friends to golf. We had an amazing time even though it was super hot. It's a very hilly golf course with beautiful views. You will get to see some wild life such as deer. They not too afraid of humans either. All there golf carts gas powered. I couldn't imagine an electric golf cart surging the hills. The greens and fairways are not perfectly well kept. But you will still have an amazing time out here. Depending on where you live, driving to this place can be a fun drive as well. read more

Why they are allowing people to spend their money on a round of golf vs. informing them that the ENTIRE course is undergoing extreme irrigation updates is beyond reprehensible. A lot of the comments about the course are probably accurate. It's not the greatest, especially in the winter months, but they have a lot of positives. One being the Marshall. Probably the coolest, most helpful Marshall I've ever experienced on a course. On top of that, they had the best golf carts I've ever seen. Very clean, we'll equipped and had a touchscreen- GPS golf tracker which always tells you how far the pin is, a flyover view of the current hole and you can pre-order food/drinks. ‍ read more

Set your expectations low and you will be OK... This is a good track to practice, brings the kids, or have a few beers and enjoy going driver, wedge on most holes from the blues. We were surprised that the snack bar was not open to purchase even water and there is no cart service either. This is not advertised on their site which is not good during a high humidity high Temp day. Luckily we had brought refreshments. As others have stated this is a short course with some funky holes that definitely take your woods out of play off the tee. For the most part, the fairways were OK with some rough patches. Some greens had dead sandy spots that were not even designated as GUR. The coup de gras was that there are 3 Temp greens on the front. Not sure why they would begin work during the busy season. Why not in the winter and have the greens ready in the spring-summer? The price is right using a Groupon or Golf Now service. This course has so much potential , but the tee boxes are trashed and uneven, the fairways are dry and packed, and the greens are almost impossible to putt on - they are basically packed mud . On top of that where are the marshalls ?!? Pace of play was ridiculously slow. This course is unfortunately a joke to play , even for the price . The ownership response has been "we were effected by recent ice storm. This is a sad excuse die lazy ownership. This course was just as bad the previous year and year before . All of the staff is very nice and accommodating. The scenery on the course is beautiful as well. However, this course could be so much better with more maintenance. The fairway grass is awful, and there is no grass on any of the greens. I have no idea how they can charge $55 for 18 holes without feeling bad. There is no way to read any of the greens in their current condition. With that being said, our group of 4 still had a blast. We probably won't be back until the greens are fixed though. read more

I played one year ago and the conditions were horrific. When told they had recently hired a new Golf Course Superintendent, I thought things would change. We recently went and played again to look at the improvements and there were none to be seen. Virtually every single green has multiple, massive areas of dirt, sand and algae. Many of the greens had nearly no grass whatsoever due to a massive algae problem. Once on the green, you actually need to move your ball to a different location in order to find a path to putt to the hole due to these areas that have no grass and are filled with sand. The tees looked as if they hadn't been mowed in three or four days, the fairways were the same. The roughs were in my estimate at least 2 1/2 inches. If you're not in the fairway, you will need to spend a significant amount of time looking for your ball if you can even find it. The group I played with was extremely disappointed and one person even mentioned, if there's one golf course we don't want to come back to it's this one. What a shame because many of these problems are so easily rectified. The attention to detail is lacking. It just seems as if the entire staff is complacent with the status quo. The saddest part of the entire experience, both a year ago and during my recent visit is, being a retired Golf Course Superintendent, who has worked and consulted at multiple high-end private country clubs throughout the world, on multiple occasions, offered to help and recommend how they could improve their facility, virtually at no cost. Every time I offered I was quickly shunned because they have the attitude that they've got everything under control. read more

Playing out there for the past 12 years I had always wondered if there was a "greens keeper" on staff. This golf course has not changed from the un level tee boxes to sparse fairways and all the way to the barren greens. Changes need to happen! You have a captive population and growing by the day, take the time to fertilize, air rate, level tee boxes, put the flag on the green where there is grass to putt on. Seems like there is never more than 4 guys working on the course during the work week. Man up get some laborers down at the SLR the are there everyday looking for work. This is one of the worst golf courses I've ever played. The greens were in horrible condition. They did tell us they were bad but they definitely undersold how bad. It was like putting on the surface of the moon. Maybe 3-4 had grass on the majority of the surfaces. The fairways weren't cut and had weeds. What's worse was they charge $56 to play! The only thing redeeming were the golf carts. They are state of the art with large touch screens but they were useless on such a lousy conditioned course. Do not play here. read more

City owned golf course. The grill has always suffered and been terribly slow. I talked to the owner of the grill, a new guy from Chicago and things seem to be looking up. Lago is a retirement community. The course is short with some challenging doglegs. A few bunkers are around, placed strategically around the greens and fairways. The golf pro shop staff is friendly and helpful. It's a great course, you should come out and play. Very affordable. read more

Course condition was ridiculously bad. They were running sprinklers while people were golfing. Ownership/management was also very rude because we went over some areas at the last hole that they were temporary "fixing" it but there was no sign or a notice prior so we had no idea if they were working it or not. We will never visit this course again. Stay away from this course and go to Crystal Falls or Avery Ranch instead. read more

The city owns the Golf Club and was prevously leasing space to American Girl Grill but they refused to renew her lease and went in over night and created "The Grill". I tried to submit a write up on just The Grill but yelp just edited it and put it as the golf club even thought most of the information is different. I think The Grill is closed on Monday. "This interim measure was taken after we received no response to a Request for Proposals to operate the grill," said City Manager Melissa Byrne Vossmer. "The agreement is for three months and gives us time to figure out what's next for the grill." Other business in the area say they never got any request for proposal. During a recent Town Hall Meeting on the proposed Comprehensive Plan, residents made it clear the golf courses were an urgent priority. One of the items soliciting the strongest response was to have full service resort amenities, including restaurants, within the golf course services. Chef Phillip Meade has been a Sous Chef and Chef in several kitchens and also worked at Tory's. The Lago Vista Grill l is offering a bistro-style menu, with full breakfast and lunch that includes sandwiches with a little twist. "I want to make it more family-oriented. Not just for the golfers, but for the whole community," commented Meade. The grill started offering the full menu on Saturday, February 27th. "People have just raved about the food," said Chip Hamilton, Interim Golf Manager. It was a quick turnaround after the previous operators packed up and left. (they were evicted) The city plans to spend the next three months deciding which course to take with the grill. "We are contemplating several different opportunities," said Hamilton. "We will be taking several options to the City Council in the next few weeks. During a vacation I planned to golf at a local course. I called and scheduled in advance for tee time and requested two club rentals. When we arrived we were told they did not have clubs available and they could not do anything for us. Not exactly what I would call courteous service. We scheduled with a club down the road the same day which did take our request for club rentals and tee time. read more

Great staff who treat you like a VIP. From the guy in the Pro Shop, Dennis, who was very accommodating and friendly, The Marshall, Rick, who keeps all of us straight and let's us know who is ahead of us and who is playing behind us. Keeps the pace of play up despite many players playing. Course has great senic views. You must know where to hit your tee shot. Really enjoyed our round. I went to Lago Vista golf course last Saturday morning with my friends to play golf. At the first hole, while we were playing, Jeff the assistant manager drove his cart toward us and started screaming at us. He was furious and was not wearing a mask. We did not have any idea what we was mad about. My first response to him was, "Calm down, man. Calm down." He kept yelling. We finally understood that he was angry because we had driven our cart across a fallen rope that was marking a protected area of the green. I had never heard that we were not allowed to cross the rope with our cart. There were no signs to indicate that. If Jeff had told any of us that we were supposed to stay off the green, we don't remember it. (The rope was lying on the ground when we saw it.) Maybe it was a miscommunication, and maybe he did say something to one of us when one of my friends checked in that he did not understand. But there is NO reason for the assistant manager to rush towards us screaming. He even threatened to call the police!! A simple request would have worked perfectly well, with an explanation of the situation. Instead, it escalated into a shouting match. We are middle-aged Korean men. We felt so offended by this unprofessional behavior, and said to Jeff, "You are yelling at us because we are Asian. Are you being racial?" And Jeff said, "Yes, I'm being racial." Finally, Jeff drove away and we continued to play. Jeff assigned a marshall to watch us for the next five or six holes, as a threat. Of course, we did nothing wrong so the marshall had nothing to say. My friends discussed this experience, and we are sure that if white golfers had done the same thing, the assistant manager would have politely approached them. After our game we went to the office and requested an apology from Jeff. He refused and made sarcastic faces at us, saying, "If you don't leave we'll call the police." I called the police and waited until Officer Quick arrived. Officer Quick listened to Jeff's side of the story and our side of the story. He was very understanding and sympathetic. "However," Officer Quick said, "There's no law against being a jerk." Now Jeff has told us that we cannot return to Lago Vista golf course, even though we've been playing there every two weeks for more than years. It is simply unacceptable that a racist can be so abusive and discriminatory toward me and my friends and the Asian community. I hope the Asian community and allies boycott this golf course until they do something about Jeff. Thank you. read more

Worst golf course ever. The people were friendly and the fairways were decent, but the greens are atrocious. And when I say atrocious I mean absolutely pathetic. I can't imagine worse greens than these. I rented golf clubs and they don't give you a full set. I'm right handed and was given a left handed putter. I went to use the 9 iron and it was left handed. If there were minus stars I would give minus stars just based on the greens. How can you have a course like this and charge people. It's such a great location too. Avoid this course at all cost. The greens are absolutely atrocious and fairways poorly maintained. Especially for the price of $43 for a round, there are way better courses in the Austin area that are actually taken care of. I don't understand how they can neglect the course as much as they have. This is a course you take your kids to practice on so they don't feel bad when they leave a divot. Only thing going for this course are the views. Beware of the " Lago Vista Grill" on the golf Course. This is by far the most worst place My family and I had ever eaten at. Where do I start. First off when u walk in it wreaks in there of this foul smell almost like a mens locker room it was disgusting. The ac was broken smack dab in the middle of summer and the ceiling fans don't work as well. It was atleast 100* in there. Then it was sooo loud in there from about 30 elderly men golfers getting absolutely trashed in the middle of the day that you couldn't even hear the poor girl thats trying to take your order. We waited over 30 minutes for our food and it came out one entree at a time with about 20 min in between each entree. Heres the kicker they forgot 2 of our meals. We waited all that time and there was two meals missing!! We asked for separate little plates to split the food and they brought us a stack of dirty plates covered in chocolate mouse of Some type. I told the girl at the register and she said she accidentally grabbed us plates from the dirty stack!! Wtf?? All in all a trip to get a quick burger took almost two hours because of their screw ups. I don't recommend this place to anyone ever unless ur looking for an old musky place somewhere to get drunk in the middle of the day. Stay clear of this establishment I have no clue how they are in business oh wait yes I do all the daily drunks. Never ever again. Completely unprofessional. Someone needs to contact the owner or the BBB and the health department. read more

Keeping in mind that we usually get what we pay for, have to say I was pleasantly surprised by what my $14 bought today at Lago Vista. Were fairways, greens and tee boxes perfect? No. But they were in way way better shape than many of the reviews led me to believe. Sand traps were in great shape - plenty of nice soft sand to actually work with, nice. Folks inside were very friendly. I pretty much had the course to myself, finished in just over 3 hours. I would recommend to anyone who doesn't mind the drive from points east or south (scenic out that way, so my 50 mile drive from Dripping was worth it). read more

Terrible! Nice staff but that's it. The course is horrendous and the pace of play was even worse. It took us nearly 5 hours on a Saturday mid morning. We went for a Sunday brunch. The brunch is buffet style. 22 for just the buffet and 29 for the buffet and bottomless mimosas. Although I've inclined to rate any brunch with bottomless mimosas with a 5/5, I cannot. The buffet had grossly more lunch options than breakfast options. Waffles and omlets were the only breakfast options! And while the lunch options were tasty, the brunch buffet did not satisfy my bacon cravings. Bacon is a must with brunch. Also, the omelet wait time was absurd. Order your omelet right away if you want it before you're full. Overall, not worth the drive for us. Nothing special by my brunch standards. read more

This course is in pretty bad shape. The fairways are mostly dirt or dead grass with a few grassy areas. Some of the greens are ok, some are pretty bad. Definitely not worth the $50 price tag for both my husband and I. If we had paid $15 that'd be more appropriate. read more
