A cute, little confectionery in the area. My friends and I came over here after eating at the nearby Brewery. A girlfriend and I got a milkshake... Well I ate almost all of it myself. It was very good and I like the standard glass plus whatever is left in the mixing cup style of ordering a milkshake. One thing that was kind of annoying about this place is that there didn't seem to be room for big parties. All the couples pretty much had to get their own table by themselves. But that's not too much of a drawback. If I'm feeling like ice cream and I am in the area, I would come here again. read more

Came here on a first date once and it was just lovely. Very old and kitschy, and I was more than pleased to visit the original as I usually visit the East Davenport location. I have been coming to this Lagomarcino's my entire life but no time was better than on Valentine's Day of this year. When I was racking my brain trying to think of sweet QC traditions of love, I immediately thought Lago's. I was shocked to see that it was practically empty on Valentine's Day. We ordered hot fudge sundaes... their hot fudge is bananas, like it's from another planet. It's so good. The tall wooden booths are intimate and the little marble tables are darling. Of course, all the old kitschy stuff is on the walls and the tin ceilings add to the old timey decor. Coming there for years and years, I can tell you this, and while many reviewers will disagree with me -- the food at Lago's is seriously nothing to write home about. Not tasty, not worth the price. The ice cream, the confectioneries, the phosphates, the chocolates, the fudge? Hell yes. The turkey sandwich? Eh. Seriously, take your date to Lago's for Valentine's Day. It's swoontastic. read more

I was much more impressed with this place when I thought it was the only one, not a chain. It's an old time-y lookin place, a soda fountain and chocolate joint. I got a strawberry phosphate and some chocolate. The phosphate wasn't anything special. Like always when I buy chocolate, as soon as I smelled it I wanted nothing to do with it. I'm told it was good though. I did try the toffee, and it was good. It wasn't delicious like I hoped it would be. Situated in the desolate downtown Moline I'm shocked this place is still in business. Honestly the BEST ice cream around. It's a shame i live so far away, well....maybe not. I'd be superfat. Its not just the creamy, perfectly sweet ice cream, its the hot fudge. Not fake. Not plasticky.....delish, fresh, homemade. The retro feel of it is great too. Original floors, woodwork. Family owned, you can read up on the history printed in the menu. Oh! I almost forgot lunch. I love Lago's, and I make it a point to go back there whenever I can. I grew up going to the Illinois location on Saturdays with my family, and getting chocolate malts and turkey sandwiches on their Swedish rye bread. Their homemade candies are delicious too! For the Quad Cities, I'm sure you can find a cheaper sandwich, but you can't put a price on nostalgia. I like the original Moline location better than the one in Davenport, but that's probably just because of the old kitschy lunch-counter charm of the Moline Lago's. I kind of think that they're closed on Sundays, but their website is unhelpful in that regard. read more

They actually do have a lite menu for lunch, so pull up to the counter and have a bite when you stop in to stock up on sea-salted dark chocolate caramels. Lagomarcino's has been at this location since 1918....here's an excerpt from their website that will give you some background on the décor you'll notice when you walk in: "The booths were custom built by Moline Furniture Works in 1918. The Tiffany lamps lighting each booth were designed in New York. Cassini Tile of Rock Island installed the hexagon terrazzo floor with blue flowers to compliment the lamps. The metal ceiling dates to 1894. The store's original cigar and candy cases are supplemented by candy cases crafted in the late 40's or early 50's by Vander Vennett." read more

I have been coming here every Holiday season from age 5-16 when visiting family. I am 30 now and went back recently while in town for a relative's memorial service. The decor and such has changed some, which makes complete sense being that almost 20 years has passed. The service and food are just as good. I became a vegan a few years ago (by choice), so did not partake in ice cream or sandwiches, but could tell that my family REALLY enjoyed their meal and dessert. I got a Lago, which tastes like a cherry vanilla soda - delicious. I got a fruit plate which filled me up and a grilled PB abd J. One of the best ideas is to grill a PB and J - SO good. the peanut butter is creamy and melts into your mouth. The staff are friendly and helpful. Definitely recommended. read more

Lagomarcinos relies on kitsch value. Sure, I think it's great that I can get a phosphate here but I can also get one at Velvet Freeze and that's not saying much! The prices at Velvet Freeze are also about 85% cheaper as well. After eating a few times with locals (who seem to think it's the best thing since sliced bread), I think Lagomarcinos likes to pretend it's not in the QC so they can charge prices more acceptable elsewhere. I don't care if it is a local business. It's not that good to be that pricey. You may as well go to Arthur's deli on Blackhawk Rd in Rock Island. Good sandwiches without the price of Lagomarcinos. read more

I can only rate one particular aspect of Lagomarcinos, and it's the chocolate candies. Hubby brought me a selection for Valentine's Day. I shared with my coworkers, and each person who tried some seemed to melt into a puddle of chocolate-induced ecstasy. He brought me salted caramels (OMG!), chocolate-covered toffees (MELT in your mouth goodness!!), and chocolate turtles (Most delicate, most heavenly turtles I have ever had the pleasure of meeting!!) Inside the heart-shaped box surrounded by the collection of the last two items mentioned, there was also an Isabel Bloom heart. What an awesome presentation and what an amazingly yummy turn of events!! I do hope to get in to try the fudge, which apparently is given to you to dispense out of a pitcher of fudgy goodness, and I hope to have the pleasure of trying one of their other offerings. In the meantime, only speaking for their candies, I can say that it is pricy, but worth every penny for a chocolate high you might never regret (even if your thighs do!) read more

I was checking out the downtown area of Moline, and was seeing where the new Element Hotel is going in along with the train depot for the the new service to Chicago this fall. From the outside of Lagomarcino's, it looked vintage and even inside they have preserved the 1950's soda fountain feel. It is worth a look see and check into a establishment that only exists in old photos and movies. read more

This place was great. Sooo nostalgic. The owner was very friendly and helpful with giving me a brief history of the place. The dark chocolate sea salt bark with almonds were to die for. I sat in one of the old school booths and had a turtle ice cream sunday. It was very tasty. The only thing is that I wish they sold their caramel sauce! They sold the hot chocolate sauce... BEST CHOCOLATES IN TOWN! We send our family in California chocolates from Lago's every Christmas and they send us See's Chocolates until one year they said that they felt bad that the See's Chocolates were nowhere near as good as the Lago's chocolates. Their assorted truffle boxes are too die for. Have never gifted chocolates to anyone who hasn't enjoyed them - even took a few boxes across the Atlantic to Turkey with me to give to my host family and Turkish teacher - they were extremely grateful not only for the gift but for how great the chocolates were - unlike anything they had ever had before. read more

Amazing old-time soda "shoppe" in the same building since Roosevelt was President, and I mean Teddy, not Franklin. As I enjoyed my nostalgic lunch of a Green River and a liverwurst sandwich, I half expected to see Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland walk in. To get to the booths (original) you have to run a killer gauntlet of glass-fronted display cases showing rows of hand-dipped chocolates. Their food choices are pretty basic (and good!) but eating here is just the prelude to getting some ice cream; and the ice cream is unbelievable. read more

Lago's, where you been all my life? Son has raved about LM's since moving to the area several years ago. Now I see why. If you want to experience the way Americans enjoyed casual meals and sweet treats in decades long-past, walk through the doors of Lagomarcino's and live it for yourself. This perfectly preserved time capsule opened in 1907 and has apparently discovered the secret of making time stand still. Parking isn't easy to find. Do NOT be daunted. The joint was jumpin' as we sat down to a late lunch. Grandson never eats. Lives off nutrients in the air like a tropical orchid. Wolfed down his PB&J with a side of goldfish crackers. Do you want your grilled cheese on homemade bread? I was asked. Uh, make that a big YES. Best sandwich ever with generous side of old fashioned (what else?) chips, Coke in antique-looking tall glass. Couldn't resist the homemade ice cream, chocolate and vanilla. Tasted like ice cream ought to, nothing but the basics. Took some hand dipped chocolates to go, made on site. Cannot stress enough how absolutely authentic and genuinely satisfying this place was from the good food to the sweet server to the nostalgic ambience. What are you waiting for? Go check out Lagomarcino's for yourself. Oh, bliss!! I was immediately transported back to my childhood when I stepped into the store. Very tiny place with counter stools and a spattering of booths and tables. And a soda fountain...a real one. We ordered lunch; egg salad sandwich for me. Very basic and somewhat average. But then the dessert...really the reason for stopping in. I ordered the Turtle Sundae. You have the choice of one scoop or two. Creamy, sweet lusciousness. Vanilla ice cream, caramel fudge sauce and toasted pecans topped with real whipped cream and a cherry. Once scoop is really sufficient but you will wish you had splurged on two. We were there while customers were picking up their Easter orders. I saw two of the biggest chocolate rabbits that I have ever seen in my life. If you're in the Quad Cities...GO! read more

I loved this place! It's such a wonderful, historic gem in Moline, IL. If you love old places with a lot of history, this is your place. The food was pretty good. The old fashioned sodas were delicious, but very syrupy (but that's how they used to make them back then). The hot fudge sundaes are so good! In 2008, Lagomarcinos celebrated 100 years of making life in the Quad Cities a little sweeter. The quintessential soda fountain, they still make sodas with phosphate, but ice cream is their strength. A friend and I just went there today. We enjoyed our time there. It has a nice old timey feel to the place. I had the hot fudge banana split and it was really good!
