This place is under NEW ownership as of three months ago. I have been a customer of the new owner for over 10 years, my entire family and all of my friends go to this auto wizard. He has been nothing but honest and when I had financial issues he worked things out with me so that I could get my car back on the road as soon as possible. You can't beat an honest A.S.E Master certified mechanic that will look out for you over any dealership. As a bonus they also do warranty work. I made the mistake when I bought my last new car of taking it to the dealership when I lived in NY. I had a squeak in my brakes usually meaning it was time for the brake pads to be replaced. The dealership told me that I had to replace all four pads and rotors, I put it off until Christmas time and came home. I went to Mr. Wu and asked him about it and it turned out that I had over 50% of the brake pads on all four brakes! read more

No one wants car trouble. I had car trouble while out of town! I was afraid my car needed a transmission. Bryan and the guys looked at it and decided it needed an internal transmission repair instead. Fearing the worst, I was prepared to pay a lot of money. It cost me considerably LESS than I expected and was totally surprised. You never know when you're out of town, but they were honest and took good care of me. Best thing about this place is the quality of the service. The guys have been incredibly nice to my gf and I, always helping us prioritize what jobs need to be done (car has lots of problems). They are open and honest and always willing investigate affordable alternatives. The prices are great and the service is excellent! There is a new owner and he is a great mechanic to boot. That's right, the owner is also one of the mechanics. My old clunker was due for emissions but the check engine light was on. I've contacted Yelp.com as to why they've hidden 15 amazing reviews for this fledgling business in their 'reviews not recommended' link, but have highlited the one negative review from 4 years ago when a different individual owned Lains Auto Services. I've gotten a few responses from Yelp and they were all completely inaccurate. I'm awaiting a response from a human (as opposed to the computer generated form letters they keep emailing me) in an attempt to give Yelp.com a chance to explain themselves on this one. As to Lains Auto Services, even when I don't have a problem with my car, I know I can call Bryan for advice on where to get body work done, where to get my vehicles detailed and other car questions. And obviously when I do have a car issue, Lains is the only place to go for service, price and to be treated fairly and with respect. This isn't just a garage, this is one of those businesses that makes an area a 'community'. And if Yelp compromises that due to their unwillingness to show 15 great reviews, well then what good is Yelp? Update: I've gotten in touch with a human at Yelp.com and while I'm getting some of the same excuses the auto-response gave me, I'm holding out hope that they'll address this error and correct it. Most reviews on Yelp have a few hidden reviews (about 5% or even 10% total), but this business has ALL reviews hidden except 1 lousy one from over 4 years ago with a previous owner. Yelp.com has 93.75% of the reviews hidden for Lains Auto Service. And they're all great! Four or five stars. This doesn't seem like an accident. Again, I'm awaiting the latest update to see what the deal is here. Update #2: The person at Yelp who was helping couldn't offer anything more than blaming the automated system for hiding all the great reviews. There is NO other business represented like this on Yelp.com. I'm not sure why they have it in for Lains, but they refuse to fix the issue and they've stopped responding to my emails asking them do the right thing and fix it. If they do respond, I'll add a further update. Although who's going to read it? Yelp puts EVERY review for Lains in the 'do not read' bin. Of course, except for the one vile review from over 4 years ago. Nice job, Yelp.com. I'm going to Google Reviews now. Update #3: Yelp.com responded and offered the same excuses. Yet this time they emailed me from a 'no reply' email account. Yet again, I pleaded the case of this great business and asked Yelp to contact the business owner directly. I even sent them a link to Lains homepage (and you could see the 5 star rating 'Google reviews' gave Lains on that link). I'll keep trying. Update #4: Yelp has not responded to my last few inquiries about this. I've noted a couple more great reviews for Lains popped up. They were factored in for a day or so and then sent to the 'reviews not recommended' link and the 1 star review was all that remained. If you bother to read all of this, just use Google Reviews. They don't seem to be prejudiced towards any businesses like Yelp is. Update #5: Yelp.com is simply ignoring my requests and emails at this point. I guess their approach is 'if you can't fix it, ignore it'? Or perhaps they simply don't care. I'm going with the latter. read more

I had an issue with the exhaust system in my car. Took it to Lains, they put it on their lift, and Bryan and 2 other mechanics told me exactly what was wrong and how they were going to fix it. Their estimate was fair, honest, and accurate. I was able to pick up my car the next afternoon, with all issues fixed. The staff here are incredibly friendly, down to earth, and knowledgeable. The worst mechanics I ever encounter. They told me they spend 3 hours to diagnose my car just to tell me I needed a new transmission. They wanted another $100 to diagnose the engine codes and I imagined that they were going to take another $100 just to tell me I needed a new engine. I always get anxious when dealing with car mechanics. I, like most car owners, am very dependent on my car and want a mechanic who gives me honest and legitimate information, and one who I can trust. My experience at Lain's was excellent. I took my Volkswagen there in September 2013 for an overdue service and to figure out why my "check engine" light had recently come on. The car had also started making a strange vibrating noise behind the glove compartment the day before. I initially took the car to the local VW center and was quoted $460 for the service alone and an additional $160 to "look into" any other problems. I suspect I would have been lucky to get away with spending less than $800 had I stuck with the VW center. I arrived at Lain's, met the owner, Brian, and explained what was going on. He said he'd get started immediately and keep me posted as he worked on it. He called to check in at every stage (after the initial check up, after fixing a minor problem with the oil dipstick (which turned out to be causing the vibrating), after servicing, and then after replacing the thermostat (which had caused the check engine light to come on). He was transparent with pricing from the start--at the end of the first phone call he told me I'd be looking at a total between $200 and $600 (at this point, he hadn't figured out the exact reason for the check engine light being on). I told him to continue working on the car, and he called the following morning to tell me I would need a new thermostat and would be looking at a final cost of $560, which we negotiated down to $485 (before the work was complete). The car was ready to go at 4 PM and I paid $485, no questions asked. On a side note, I learned when I picked my car up that the shop has been under new ownership for the past two years, and therefore the negative comments left by the previous reviewer are a reflection of the previous ownership. I highly recommend this place--in my experience the business was quick, professional, and honest. read more

The place was sold several months ago and the place is being run now by a very competent, kind and POLITE and RESPECTFUL and HONEST mechanic/owner. My air conditioner in my 2006 Toyota Camry stopped working. A well known garage in Frederick told me that my compressor needs to be replaced and estimated a cost of $1500.00. I waited because I could not afford it then. Someone told me about the new ownership of Lains garage. The mechanic /owner told me there is nothing wrong with my air conditioner...it has been running efficiently since then. Did not even make a noise. Please give this garage a chance. I had my 2011 Lexus there for an oil change..now, would anyone trust an expensive car be worked by a "bad auto services" place? We are going to have a vintage car worked on there for window replacement, transmission and other work (we ordered the windows). read more

Upon a recommendation from another repair shop for an electronic problem I was having with my 91 Miata, I stopped by Lains this morning to have them see if they could find the problem. I was told that the minimum fee for an hour was around $90.00 and if they felt that it would take longer they would stop and let me know before proceeding. What I was told elsewhere was probably a major problem, turned out to be a simple fix that was done in less than fifteen minutes. My charges were $30.00, and I was on my way shortly after. The owner and his staff were knowledgable and friendly, and if I ever have another problem, they will be my first choice from now on. high marks for sorting out difficult electrical problem. My Toyota highlander 2004 had a battery light on. My regular mechanic replaced battery, checked alternator, but could not figure out the problem. Lains figured out that battery acid had dripped down to the wiring harness and had burnt through three wires. Rather than replacing the entire harness, they bypassed the harness and reconnected the wires. the repair took less than a day and they provided transport to College Park metro station. by the way, I believe there has been a change in management since the previous review. read more

I'm from out of town but currently work here. My wife and kids come to visit me. Her car broke down right before they went home. Went to Lains Auto Service. They got me right in ( a hour before they closed). They stayed late got my wife's car fixed. Plus since it went faster then he thought cut me a brake on the price.
