When a mechanic tells you "oh no we don't take customer parts" that means they don't believe in the mechanics ability NOT to mess it up and the part you buy comes with a 30 warranty so if the part fails then you take the part back to where you got it from they are not responsible so no liability on their part. Dropped in at 7:40 am on a Monday because I suspected I had a nail in my tire since it was leaking slowly. They kept me updated and gave me a call when it was ready. They repaired the tire for $32. While waiting to pay I overheard the mechanic telling the customer on the phone she didn't need a service done, hearing a shop tell someone they don't need a service is being upfront and honest. read more

Service quality has evaporated. Whole place has turned over, and not for the best. Where is Chris? Two days after a wheel bearing replacement ($673) I have warning lights on my dash. After bringing it back in, I overheard the mechanic say he doesn't know what's wrong but he wants to replace the thermostat, spark plugs and several other things. PUGHS replaced two wheel bearings, the thermostat and spark plugs three years earlier under original crew. I had radiator flushed 1.5 years prior. Today I had the impression that I was being taken advantage of in order to make more money off me. The part is under $75 but billed $151. The job involves loosening 11 bolts/nuts and one sensor and billed $479 for labor. An additional $33 for unjustified "fee". And the mechanic was intending to charge me several hundred more to "figure" out the "errors" he came up with. My wife brought her work van in three times in the past two weeks for a steering issue, with each time the same mechanic coming up with new error messages and each time more parts more labor done/ charges totaling $800+ installed new power steering pump that failed one week later that got replaced, then brought back for same issue. New spark plugs was recommended and done. On a third visit back there was new error codes to justify adding more parts more labor. My wife said if you can't make the repair I'm just gonna take it to someone else and then suddenly later that day they called and said all the error messages are gone and is working fine now. Very suspicious. PUGHS has become a racket of creating new issues resulting in adding on more parts and labor while misleading clients by justifying with "error codes". We've been coming to Pugh's on and off as needed with both our personal cars and most recently my wife's work vehicle. Service and pricing was always fair prior to new employees, but now it seems very dishonest and overpriced. After this fiasco I looked into the going average rate in the area for a wheel bearing replacement. All in, $500 on the high side, $375 on the low. I can no longer consider or recommend anyone coming to this garage. Shop around and be suspicious of a place that keeps coming back to you with new error codes days after performing work that was never correctly completed. Some advice- fire that crooked error code "mechanic" and replace him with someone who knows a thing or two or two about cars. read more

Came here to get brakes done recently. This isn't my go to shop but decided to give this place a try. I called ahead and made an appointment. They're not far from the College Park metro station. They did a full diagnostic and confirmed it was indeed my brakes that needed work. I was hoping to get my car back the same day but I didn't until the next day. Terrible business. Customer service is outright unprofessional. Service advisor Darrien super nonchalant. Zero communication with updates on my vehicle they've had over a month. Forced to call and even stop by the shop numerous times to get an update. All they do is blame the warranty company which I've been in contact with since day one that also say they've hadn't had an issue approving any claims that were submitted. When asked to speak to the supervisor, the service advisor was very dismissive. Simply told me his names Ed.., he's not here and he doesn't know his number just call the shop. I took my car in to have the oil changed and a brake job. They called me and said my brakes and pads were good. They could have just done the brake job and charged me for it and I would've been totally happy. I told him that I was hearing a grinding noise when I applied the brakes, so they checked it out three times taking it for a test drive each time and could not find a problem. they told me it was a rust buildup on the brake rotor, and they took care of that. How much did they charge me for all that testing and test driving zero! This is an honest and trustworthy repair shop, and I will never go to another repair shop. these mechanics dont know a thing about cars, but just enough to screw over their customers. left every single screw on the part they "replaced" on my car loose, to the head, so my engine would make noise and i would bring it back in to get it fixed. quoted me an additional $800 after i already paid $1.5k to have them actually fix the issue. offered a $75 discount.. to fix something they messed up. dont bring your car here. literally go anywhere else. left it worse than how i brought it in. read more

I came to College Park for my daughter's graduation and discovered her car had problem. We had a full week of planned outings, but her Chevy Sonic was a the verge of a major failure. I called Pugh's and they took the car right away to diagnose it and I was able to walk back a little over a mile to my daughters apartment. Darien the service manager got right on it and the car only spent one night in the garage and I picked it up the next day (water pump replacement) and we where able to do everything we needed and wanted to do thanks to the great service and quick turn around for a major repair. read more

Really bad experience: 1. the price is NOT affordable! Went there for a state vehical inspection - it costs $80, which is a fair price. But they called me when I left my car there for inspection and told me that my headlights are too dim to pass the Maryland state inspection and it will cost another ~$200 to test the headlights. I agreed to do that test and then they called me saying both my headlight housings need to be replaced, and it will cost another ~$1300!!! I was totally shocked by this unreasonable quote and declined it! Then they told me that can give me some discount like about $50 (can't recall the exact discount amount) and they also said the headlight testing fee is reduced from $200 to $80. While I still declined it and picked up my car back. It is not affordable! For me, the $160 I paid is for nothing.....I still need to find another place to do car inspection. 2. the front desk person calling me is very rude. The old person helped me when I delivered my car is nice, but the younger one is super rude when he called me about all these issues. He was super impatient when I try to ask more details. In the very begining, he said he is the manager taking charge and they can not give me any discount on the $1300 quote. Then I said I would rather decline their replacement request and get my car back (and pay $160 for nothing...). After that, the man said he can give me some discount.... (~ $50, as I mentioned above) 3. after I paid the $160 inspection fee, I asked for the formal report of my headlight issue - they rudely told me that there is no report on that..... 4. I have not got the report form for the failed state vehicle inspection yet, they said they will take a picture and send me by texting later (and they do not support sending inspection form by email....) Honestly, just look at the newest review and you get an idea why you wanna avoid wasting your money and time on them. read more

He misdiagnose my car and gave me a price to fix it. upon arrival to pick up my vehicle, he increased the cost by $200. My vehicle's brake were still low in pressure. He had to spend more time on my car to fix the very thing that I came to get done on my car. I was not prepare for full payment, so i made a payment plan with him which he did not honor. The folks at Pugh's Garage are very nice, helpful, courteous and professional. They often send out coupons to the people in the area, and are super close to the CP Metro, so I use them. I've had my oil changed there, and my fiancee has had some work done there on her car. For someone who really has no idea about car maintenance, these guys seem to know what they're doing, and I trust their judgement on what needs to be repaired and what doesn't. My 2002 Chevy trailblazer had to be towed to Pugh's Garage. I'm sure because of its age the troubleshooting was not an easy task. Luckily I have another car and it did take some time to figure out what the issues were. Turns out it was quite a few of them and then you have to get the parts for an older vehicle which also takes time and Chris, the service manager, always kept me up to date on what was going on and any estimates were texted to me & if I didn't respond he would call me. So I am very grateful that he got my vehicle up and running. And I have to say the customer service was exemplary and I would take my vehicles back there without thinking twice. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE! These are NOT Machanic's. I came in to get 2 belts and 2 tensioners replaced. Said I had to pay up front before they could even touch the car....fine....i give them the $600 to change 2 belts and 2 tensioners.... after 3 days of nothing from them. I called to see what the hold up is on a job that should only take a couple hours if THAT! They told me they have been working on getting a bolt loose ALL DAY! ...A BOLT!? aren't you all Machanic's? You can't get a Bolt off? So when i hear that , i immediately asked to have my car towed to another shop. They then make up 100 excuses why it's not possible. I tell them I'm on the way to the shop...i get to the shop and they have done the most BOTCHED job in the world. These guys couldn't get the old tensioner off of my car so they swapped the pully from the new tensioner onto to the old one. This is ridiculous. Then has the nerve to act like the reason they couldn't finish the car was because i came to pick it up too soon. Still waiting on a refund which they only gave $358 back. And i STILL HAVE NO BELTS ON MY CAR! THESE ARE NOT MACHANICS! They only have a good rating because all they can do is change breaks..... read more

WARNING - They are friendly! This should not be why you pick them. My first trip to Pugh's was awesome! Really nice people. They even gave me a free oil change on my next visit. So of course I took the free oil change. After completing the oil change, the tech refused to honor the coupon because the owner was off that day. He told me "...the owner does these all the time" but he couldn't honor mine. The implication was that I wasn't being honest and he couldn't confirm my story. Of course the coupon in no way mentions "Confirm the owners personal schedule aligns with your service in order to redeem." I didn't really have the $50 to spend, but he had my keys, the service was done, and I had to go to work. I tried to work it out, but got a firm no when I tried to get some kind of compromise. I immediately contacted the owner that sent me the text, and he assured me he would look into it, which meant I got a text the next day explaining that his guys assured him I did not have a coupon. I drove past two local shops to get there, at least one of which had lower prices, came in at 8 am to accommodate their scheduling issues (3 calls and a week long wait for an oil change, no call back twice), and then waited over double the quoted time estimate. All so I could be called a liar twice and pay full price for an oil change that was $5 cheaper across the street from my house. My SUV broke down in the middle of the street and the engine would not turn on. Originally, I thought it was my starter so I had my SUV towed to Meineke they ran a diagnostic and state that it was not an starter problem, but it was an engine problem. They stated to me that they do not fix engines and that I would have to move my car soon or they would start charging me fees for having it sit on their lot. So, I searched for places that could possibly fix engines. And there it was Pugh's Garage (ahhhhh.... angel halo). I called them on Saturday while I was at work and asked them if they could fix my engine. So, the gentleman at the front desk asked me what kind of car I had and I stated a 2011 Chevy Equinox and that the tow truck would be bringing it and that I would not be with the tow truck because I was at work. I stated to him where the keys would be. When my truck arrived at Pugh's they called me to notify that they received my SUV and stated that they have my keys in their hands. They ran their diagnostic and found just as Meineke did that it was an engine issue. They asked if I had warranty which I do and I stated to them that it was SilverRock. They stated that they have worked with them a lot so they know how they work. The gentleman gave me a heads up on gathering my documents for maintenance for the vehicle. So, as I collected my documents they started the claim process for me. I did NOT have to do anything on my end with paperwork other than submitting my maintenance documents to the warranty company. They took care of everything else with the paperwork. They called me once my claim was approved and how long they would take on the work for the vehicle and how long it would take for ordered parts to come in the garage. They communicated consistently about next steps, what they were doing and when my vehicle was going to be ready. They stated that my vehicle was going to be ready on a Friday and they had it ready on Thursday a day before, which I was really happy about because at this point I am almost at a month without a vehicle. They ended up replacing my engine with a brand new engine and fixing my front lights. My SUV runs very well and no engine lights on. I drove my SUV and it rides even smoother. Also, the day I was to go and pick up my SUV I stated to them that I needed to find a ride of course because I did not have another vehicle. They even offered to pick me up from my home and to bring me to the garage to get the SUV. I am so thankful for Pugh's Garage and being very responsive to me. They understood my frustration with having to deal with a vehicle with engine issues. They were very timely with completing tasks for getting the claim processed, communicated effectively and timely, quality work, and are open and honest. My daughter's car was towed to Pugh's Garage. I was charged $600.00 and the car was not fixed. My decision to have the car towed to a new garage because Ed could not tell me after one week of having the car and running two diagnostic tests that the $1,600 charge would result in the car running. I really lost confidence that he had a clue. First, he said it was a fuse, then charged again for another diagnostic test. I had the car towed from this garage after paying all these charges. I basically lost $600 and Ed did not seem to be bothered by this. This place sucks big time. Went there a few years ago to have front shocks put on. Dropped it off while I went to work. When picked it up my front tires were completely cockeyed and practically undrivable. I was p'd off big time when they told me they did not have a front end alignment machine to line it up. The stupid A-holed did not even make an attempt to visually align it by site. My front tires were screeching going down the road it was so bad. Luckily I didn't live that far away. The next day I had it towed to real shop to have it Aligned. The people running this joint are jerks! Like I said this was a few years ago.
