Cute little library I took my 6 year old granddaughter to, at her request. Turns out she already had an active account through Lake Alfred Elementary School. They do not issue library cards; I suppose that's a thing of the past (not sure if others do anymore). She picked out her five books (the max you can do) from the children's section and the checkout was simple. It is normally a two week turnaround, but the librarian added an extra week to give her extra time (which I don't think she'll actually need). She also asked, and applied, if I wanted a text message reminder 3 days before due day. That was/is a nice touch. The facility was clean, and quiet of course. We played a round of checkers before departing and I actually saw a couple of atlas type books I found interesting. I may have to swing in here solo and hang out to go through them. read more

LA Library is a good library for books, computers, DVD's and programs. The people that work there are very nice and helpful. They go out of their way to help you if you need to order something from the good size Polk County system. Love their decorations for every holiday, so cheerful! Love you guys! read more

Not a bad little library for the location and size of the town. There is story time for the kids, plenty of computer to work on, prices for printing and coping average, book selection on site is ok but they can order them for you from elsewhere so that is a good point. However, the women working there are horrible. One in particular is rude, has no knowledge of computers and needs to take a class in using her quiet voice when discussing personal problems (her doctors appoints). Lake Alfred Public Library-Edwin Moore Memorial is a fantastic library located in the small town of Lake Alfred. It is a full service library offering a great selection of books, DVDs, and children's materials for check-out. It functions as part of the Polk County Library Cooperative so if you do not find the book that you want on site, that item can be requested from another Polk County library and it will be delivered to the Lake Alfred Library for your easy pick-up within a few days. This library offers a full range of services to patrons and residents which includes notary services, copy/print services, fax services, and materials such as envelopes and stamps which make it easy for those who are working on sending out resumes. Very soon laminating services will be available as well. All of these services are offered at a very nominal charge. The staff at the library is ready to assist you with whatever your needs might be. Each staff member has various areas of expertise but they work together as a team to meet all of the needs of the patrons. The public library like other businesses will sometimes experience times of very heavy patron usage and there may be a wait time of a few minutes. The staff of the Lake Alfred Library works diligently to help every patron as quickly as they possibly can. Lake Alfred Public Library has free wi-fi available for users who wish to bring their own laptops, tablets, or other devices. Cell phones must be turned off or put on vibrate while inside the library. A high tech meeting room is available for meetings and presentations. There is a laptop, ceiling mounted projector and large projection screen in this room. The seating arrangement is flexible and can be set up with chairs only or with conference room tables and chairs whichever best meets your needs. There is a study room available for homework helpers or mentoring students. It has also been used by government service groups who assist those who are seeking to sign up for various government services. The room is private but is glassed in to provide clear visibility enabling the staff to monitor the activity within the room. The Teen Scene room in the library has a great collection of books aimed at the young adult readers. There are also public access computers in this room for the teens to use in their own space. There is a table and chairs available for teens to work on group projects too. The children's library consists of two separate rooms. The library section houses hundreds of wonderful fiction and non-fiction books for children of all ages. There are also computers with special software for the children's use in this room. There is a second room, the children's activity room, which is separate and allows the children to do noisier activities in this room without disturbing the quieter areas of the library. The children's activity room has large glass windows so that there is a clear view into the room at all times and no child is left unsupervised. The Lake Alfred Friends of the Library, Inc. operate their used book store in the south end of the library where they sell donated books, DVDs, and CDs to raise funds to support the many projects that they do for the library. They accept donations of clean used books at any time that the library is open. Just put your used books in a box or some bags and drop them off at the library. read more

This small library building sure has a huge selection of services inside. The items are always in very nice shape and the ladies inside are too sweet and very helpful. I love bringing my little ones in for their many weekly programs. The children's librarian is wonderful and my children love her. This library is among my top picks in Polk County. This library is great hosting family friendly events for all ages, offering a wide selection of books, and are able to offer assistance when needed. With plenty of computers available for use for children,teens and Adults. They even have movies FREE to check out that are in great condition, with reasonable printing charges and exceptional work ethic. And as a previous Volunteer worker i can give an inside review and have to say that they are like family. They will always try to make your visit as pleasant as possible. And for those who need time for computer work don't worry just ask for more time they can give extra hours if needed. And for those with their own electronic devices they offer FREE WIFI yes you can be on your own preferable device if you don't feel the need to use their computers. And if you need headphones(earbuds) then you can ask to purchase them for a couple bucks. While providing a placid environment for hard workers on the computers. And students if you need volunteer time then look no more they offer flexible work hours with easy tasks at hand. read more

Lake Alfred Public Library-Edwin Moore Memorial is an AWESOME library. They put the customer in customer service. The library ladies are friendly, helpful, patient, kind, and ever- ready to help with whatever you need; be it copying, directions, computer help and help finding books (even if you do not know the title or author). They offer printing and they sell everything from stamps to envelopes as well as let you use their stapler. The programs they offer meet the demands of the community and people only have to drive to the library to access these services and classes. They offer jewelry classes, free computer classes, storytime, and an afternoon craft program as well as performers during the summer at Lion's Park. They also have a literacy program that encourages reading and allows the participating youth to earn prizes, books, and a trophy. I have even seen the Florida Driver's License Mobile van there. I do not know of any place where you can get treated like family while catching up on Facebook, checking out materials, attending classes and programs, and coming in to make use of the 19 public access computers. Lake Alfred Public Library may be small but they strive to have it all. I feel as if they have exceeded beyond my wildest expectations. They are an AWESOME group of ladies.
