Getting here is a bit convoluted, but GPS works well navigating the old neighborhoods. The library is also located at a bus stop that is well used. This particular library branch has both a poor reputation and ratings, mainly due to the homeless, but I have never seen any while here - and I've spent a lot of time here since moving to Lakeland. This library is incredibly clean, including the bathrooms. The librarians who work here have been very polite and helpful. They have a fantastic inter-library loan system, like larger cities, so I've not had a problem acquiring books. The system is quite quick. They not only loan books, but dvds and music cds as well and have a large display of them inside. They have a large shelf in the front selling discarded books. They have a large section for children, down a beautiful mural covered hallway. I have not checked that out, but from the proliferation of young families coming here, it's quite popular. There are also conference rooms, and from following them on Facebook, they have a lot going on here. It's easy for me to spend time at this library. The coffee house, Black & Brew, has a satellite cafe here and the library has a gorgeous rose garden all around it.

The actual library is through another set of doors to the right. We spent quite a bit of time in the bookstore going through the wide selection of used books they had available. I found one book on the racks they had out in front of it and then stumbled across three more I wanted while inside. All four of the books I bought happened to be Stephen King novels but they had a lot of other good choices. My kids picked up a couple of books for gifts as well while we were there. The people working the store were very friendly and helpful.

I spent one year of my undergraduate at SEU. As a student who came from out of state, it was a…read morescary experience moving somewhere completely new. I found SEU didn't help me very much in the process of transition into a new environment. The first problem at SEU began when I was assigned to live in an 8 person dorm. It was an absolute nightmare living with the girls that I would be forced to call roommates. They had their click and had no interest in being friends with the new girls. I sadly had roommates that showed a lack of compassion and were insensitive to others. I communicated with my RA about he situations that occurred, but SEU was all big about "working things out" instead of moving me to another room. The FOOD: RUN. Preview days are a lie. I remember move in day thinking the food at Chartwells was AMAZING. However once the parents were gone the food quality dropped and hospital like food began appearing. The options lacked flavor, some pretty unhealthy, and there was a lack of seating availability in the cafeteria. I found myself retreating to Chick-Fil-A 5 days a week so I wouldn't have to eat at Chartwells. However this ended up causing me to gain 15-20 pounds and was hard on my health. Professors: Majority of the Professors I had were kind, understanding, and helpful. I will admit there was 1-2 though that were not very helpful at times. I would checkout reviews of the professors online before enrolling into a class. Old Testament was an EXTREMELY difficult class and the professor I had at the time tried to force 85% of the class to attend mandatory tutoring after school. I ended up withdrawing from this class as I knew I wouldn't pass. I took it later at a different school and passed with flying colors. Dorms: The dorms themselves are pretty nice. I lived in Esperanza which had a girl building and across the quad was the guy building. I would never suggest living in a freshman building with the bunk beds. The rooms are tiny and the walls don't block out much sound in general. Buena Vida is a fantastic chance to walk up 5 flights of stairs everyday to get to your room. The rooms are rather small for housing 4 people in a bedroom. The elevator the year I was there always seemed to be breaking down. I would've hated to have to walk that many stairs on a daily basis. Chapel: I've heard chapel has changed since I left. I wanted to wait to write a review until I was no longer a student. Getting chapel hours was not impossible but waiting outside in a long line to get in, did add to the process. From what I understand they've added more time options since I left. But I'm not 100% sure what that looks like. Counseling: ROTFL the counseling department was such a hit or miss. I went to humans services seeking out counseling as the stress I was feeling at school was overwhelming. There was a lot going on and my roommates were making my life miserable. I found myself exhausted everyday my roommates were insanely loud and didn't care who they kept awake. I wanted the school counselor to help convince the housing department to let me switch rooms. Counselor 1: The first counselor I went to, we did NOT hit it off. She gave me a piece of paper with little cartoons on it with the title "Stress Management". LOL I never went back to her. Counselor 2: She was actually really nice and agreed it seemed moving rooms would maybe be in my interest. However she suggested I try out a Church she personally had never been to that she thought I would like. I followed her advice and the Church was NOT a good fit at all and I left early. I personally think she maybe should've not recommended it without never even going there once. Housing: So what ended up happening? Thankfully I was approved to move of campus half way through the term. I convinced an on campus friend to move off campus with me to our own place. I commuted to school and life was so much better. Activities: I personally only found 1 club I was consistently involved with during my first semester. From what I understand though that club no longer exists. There are a lot of options on campus but it really comes down to finding a few solid friends. So overall I would say 3 star experience. The campus was clean, the dorms were kept clean, the Professors were overall decent, but there were some negative aspects. SEU is extremely expensive and honestly is not necessarily worth going into debt for. I would suggest trying to get a scholarship to attend here. It has pros and cons but at the end of the day is one of the nicer Universities in the area. Parking was always a problem and is still to this day extremely hard to find.
