I am a patient here, I had my lower back spine surgery. I came here for the recommendation of other people saying that this is a good rehab facility but for me it is one of the best facility. I am so thankful to all staff here at Lake Balboa. They helped me during my recovery including from the lowest position to top, DON Jonah, all very nice, all departments. I would like to especially mention some staff that I'm so grateful with.. nursing department- Jennifer LVN, Victoria Treatment nurse, Luisa nurse, Meybelth nurse, Lorraine RN, Amelito RN supervisor. CNA- Xochilt, Ana, Sylvia, Paula, Nicole, Jasmine. Laundry-Sonia, Juana. Housekeeping- Pedrina. Therapist- Arlene and Michael. Lake Balboa Care Center was the best-case scenario during a stressful time for our family. My mom spent two weeks here recovering, and a family friend thankfully recommended this facility to us. After looking at other options, Lake Balboa was clearly a step above, and they truly live up to the 5-star ratings they proudly display throughout the hallways. From the admissions team to the social workers, nurses, physical therapists, janitorial staff, and everyone in between, the entire team was professional, kind, and consistent. As a family member, you're not just "along for the ride" here. They keep you in mind too. You're greeted with smiles, updates, and they do an amazing job of quickly putting a name to a face. From intake to discharge, everything was handled smoothly, and even after my mom checked out, they were still helpful with the follow-up questions I had. The only downside: the food isn't great. To be fair, this isn't a restaurant, so it's not a dealbreaker, but it's worth mentioning. The easy workaround is that there are plenty of food options nearby, the location is very central in the Valley and easy to get to, and food delivery was what we leaned on. The facility also offered to store food in a fridge, which we did, and that made things much easier. If you or a loved one are looking for a care facility, I highly recommend Lake Balboa Care Center. DO NOT let your loved ones stay in this place!!! The DON Jonna is shiesty and arrogant about it. She owns boarding house and will try to solicitat business from people who clearly show signs of dementia. This constitutes financial exploitation. The social worker Sheryl and her assistant are in on it. If your loved is injured there will be no incident report made. The negligence is prevalent. If your loved one needs assistance their call light will be ignored for sometimes an hour. In some cases the call lights do not work at all. Bed sores and rashes are the norm for the patients. The nurses are inconsiderate of the patients. Being down right rude and disrespectful to them. read more

When my twin brother and I walked in with our mother we warned the staff that my mother was going thru a really tuff time. And full of anxiety and dispare. With in 2.5 weeks they were able assess her diagnostic, Medications and mental assessment... I thank the entire team... with out you girls and gentlemen that are their at work.. the quality of service and treatment is immeasurable to any other rehab facility I have ever been to.... Every person who worked with her demonstrated professionalism, patience, and genuine compassion. My mother can require extra reassurance and thoughtful communication, and the staff truly understood how to support her whether that meant encouraging her to take medication, helping her engage with physical therapy, or simply making sure she felt comfortable and heard. Our family spent a great deal of time at the facility, which gave us a unique perspective into the consistency and care shown day in and day out. While many people contributed meaningfully to her recovery, one individual who stood out was Zoila. She brought warmth, patience, and an intuitive ability to meet people where they are both physically and emotionally. Her kindness and steady positivity made a profound difference for my mother. This place is excellent. When I first walked in, I felt this subtleness and calmness. There was no chaos and no weird smell that hospitals and convalescent homes have. The food is really good. Their menu is like a restaurants menu and the portions are good. Jocelyn was excellent. I hope that's her name, and a young man that works swing shift there. Their Physical Therapy was a few times a day and that might depend on the person, but that is really really good. Maybe the graveyard shift is not very attentive and I know my loved one was paired up with someone who complained a lot so I feel like they didn't want to come in to check on them because they'd have to deal with the other person but everyone there during the day was great. Strongly recommend- I know it's hard to find a place that you trust but I got a good feeling about this place from the get-go. read more

My mom Joni was a patient there for 3 months after her hospital stay. The facility couldn't have been any better, they took excellent care of my mom. The entire staff was incredible, very caring and always had a tremendous amount of patience for my mom. The PT and OT were great. The facility was very clean and constantly made sure everything was taken care of. We were very grateful to everyone for being so kind and caring towards our mother. Lake Balboa is awful.I wouldnt put a dog in there. I give it O stars. It was the worst 16 days of my life post a bad fall. It is dirty, I dont know if they even changed my sheets once, the food is a step above what i would imagine jail food to be. The trays come out then they are all sent back. You can leave your light on forever and no one responds, There are lots and lots of Alzheimers patients in the halls acting out. The nurses turn their TVs up at night to settle them,then the patient falls asleep and the nurses leave the volume up for hours. They had to catherize me because they knicked my bladder and the whole bag was filled with blood not urine and I had to take a transport $300RT my expense to see my urologist to have him check me out. Late in the day I asked for a PT to walk me around the hallways and the answer was "sorry, they have all gone home." I could go on and on but why waste my time. I have renamed this place THE SNAKE PIT. A nightmare. read more

My dad has been a patient at Lake Balboa for about 4 months. He had some medical issues and was coming from an Acute Hospital . They treated his medical issues promptly and efficiently . Since being in the hospital and being Weak , he needed PT since he had not been able to walk around using his walker . LBCC has a Wonderful Physical Therapy Department , Christopher , Arlene , Paulo . They helped him to strengthen his legs using a machine for pedaling a bike. Dad really liked using it , and that it helped a lot . He was soon able to walk with assistance using the walker of course. ""5" Times a week . Occupational Therapy helped strengthen dad's upper body . Arm machine , pedaling with your hands like a bike . Michael was his therapist in there. Also "5" tima week , couldn't get better than that . The Care dad received was very good . Most all the CNA 's were so helpful and caring . Especially "Oscar", Thanks . In charge of the CNAs was a guy named "X" . He was there to really get it done , any issues with them he always was there to check it out , fix it and very caring . Thank to the LVN , charge nurses, supervisors , Shanee, Cecelia, Victoria ,Maribel , Lorraine , they all were so helpful with meds and treatments , very caring and comforting . Dad enjoyed the food most of the time . Meatloaf , chicken , fish were co some of his favorites . If you wanted something different they do have meal options . Trying to be as very accommodating as they can with your requests . Kitchen staff Rocked , Thanks. Activity was always fun , entertaining, and interesting . Freddie was the activities coordinated . He was the Best always On . Making all the residence feel special and. Cared For . Claire too . Rosario RNA took special care of dad & also when patients were in dining room . She'd be one who's In The Know . Social Service Cheryl and her Assistant Zoila helped with care planning , patient needs and discharge planning . All in All we want our loved ones cared for and comforted. After several weeks in this facility she can walk, talk and eating much better because of really professional and amazing attitude of their employees. I rarely write reviews, but I feel compelled to warn others about Lake Balboa Care Center. My experience here has been beyond disappointing--it was heartbreaking and infuriating. (1) False Promises About Room Placement I called in advance and was explicitly assured that my loved one would be placed in a two-person room. When we arrived, she was shoved into the far corner of a four-person room, next to a woman screaming at the front. The room was 83 degrees, with no window and no ventilation. It was stifling and completely unacceptable. They only moved her after I vehemently complained--and even then, there was no apology for the blatant lie they told me on the phone. (2) Unbelievable Mishandling of Belongings After my mom passed away, I had to call four times regarding her personal possessions. The fourth time I called, they casually informed me they had thrown everything away. Not once did anyone attempt to contact me to come retrieve her things. Even worse, they can't locate a piece of her oxygen concentrator that they removed and used on their own equipment--something they promised I would get back. They removed it without permission and now claim they "can't find it." (3) Unkind and Unprofessional Staff While not everyone was rude, many of the CNAs were shockingly unkind, unprofessional, and clearly undertrained. I heard staff respond to her call light with comments like, "What do you want?"--completely unacceptable when dealing with vulnerable patients who need compassion and care. I do not understand how it has any positive reviews. Please, if you are considering this place for someone you care about, look elsewhere. No one deserves to be treated the way my mom was here. ***And just as a response to the owner's comments. I have been in contact with Oliva about getting a reimbursement. She has promised her manager would call me last week but no one did. Still waiting on your responsive team. read more

Lake Balboa care center has been a great facility for my rehabilitation. The staff is wonderful. Very efficient and professional. I go to the activities room daily and Ysenia and Freddy are so friendly. All of the CNAs are also great-Oscar, Stephan. PT - Clair, Michael, Dani was great, but I don't know what happened with her. My mother fractured her pelvis and needed physical and occupational therapy following a hospital stay. She received wonderful tender loving care. I could tell the workers genuinely cared about her well-being. We had a great experience and my mom is almost fully restored. She is 92 years young and living her best life at home. The CNA's took on an average 45 minutes to respond. I was not allowed to get out of the bed without a CNA. After 45+ minutes I wet all over myself. I'm too old for that. The facility also gave me medication to increase my appetite. I didn't get extra servings and what I got was horrible. read more

It is the best facility by far. The nursing staffs are very professional and the awesome people are the caregivers from the CNA to the LVN to the higher ups. They are so caring and patient with the elderlies. The champions though are the therapists - from the occupational therapist to the physical therapist. It is very unfortunate to give a bad review to Lake Balboa Care Center. I don't know if they knew what happened or if they don't care or if a Covid outbreak threw them off their game, but I had to pull my Mom out 6 days after she arrived (and I wanted her out the day after she arrived). I had a horrible experience and no one was really in charge and no one either cared or had the time to handle their mishandling. From the start, I was alarmed and overly concerned, frankly livid that when my Mom arrived by an ambulance transfer (around midnight) from Holy Cross Hospital, I never received a call that she had arrived. I called first thing in the morning and I couldn't get anyone on the line. I ended up leaving a message because I was told that everyone was busy and "in a huddle". No one ever called back. I was very worried about my Mom, wondering if she ever made it there and they kept oxygen on her. I asked someone to check if my Mom was there and they did and said "yes, she's sleeping". I said I was coming to visit and the person told me that I had to make an appointment to come. Of course I did not get an appt because the staff wouldn't get in the phone with me. So, I came down in person madder than hell.... And it went downhill from there. I worked all week to find another bed in the SF Valley and get her out. I can't even describe the helpless feeling of not knowing how my Mom was and then the fear of the mishandling and neglect while she was there 6 days. Never again. (My Mom had a wonderful experience there about 8 yrs prior. She chose to stay there based on her prior experience. Could the pandemic and a Covid outbreak have broken their professionalism? Where did the fun and positive attitudes go that I myself saw each time I visited? They really had a BIG FAIL with me and my Mom.) If you consider putting yourself or loved one in Lake Balboa Care, I suggest that you find out who is in charge (so you can talk to someone if need be) and what's expected BEFORE you sign up. read more

My brother just spent about a month recuperating at Lake Balboa CARE Center. "Care" in all caps because they truly care about the patients!! I saw first hand from spending every day there. This place is unlike any nursing rehab facility you could find, and I've been through plenty with my brother and it's all because of the incredible staff they have there and the current management that runs this facility. Unlike other places where you have to walk on egg shells to ask for help, these people are always smiling and going out of their way to make you feel comforted and tended to. My brother and I both were actually sad to leave because the atmosphere is so kind! He also is on a ton of meds and I never had to worry about them messing up the medication. They are so on top of things. The Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy are wonderful and really helped him a lot. The Activity Room is run by an incredible group of sweet, funny and fun people who make you feel like everyone is family and always have fun things going on. The Social Services department is always striving to have your needs met and the place is very clean. I know it sounds like I'm making this up, but I'm not!! The guy who hires staff named "X" put it to me like this: He tells his staff "You aren't here just to pass out pills and change diapers. These patients are uncomfortable and your job is to put a smile on their face no matter how difficult their personalities may be." He said that even though everyone has a title, in the end, they really don't because every job here is just as important, from the person who does the laundry to make sure everyone has clean linens to the CNAs who need to make sure patients are comfortable, to the nurses, etc. And the food is also really good and they give you plenty of alternative options, as well. I hope my brother doesn't need a nursing rehab anytime soon, but knowing that the Balboa staff is there gives me tremendous relief and takes my fears away.
