Needless to say, the boat had many issues and we were desperate to get it looked at quickly - so we called Marina of Avon and let them know we were in the neighborhood and would like to come by to pick up some odds and ends. Within 10 minutes, we pull up and are serviced immediately - well beyond what we knew we needed. They checked our motor, electricity, the pontoons - without an appointment and late on a Friday. Without these nice people (it's a family owned shop) we would have been duds in the water and we are forever grateful to them for granting us our sea legs. It is where my family goes for bait, obviously, but also for gas, and most importantly, boat rentals. When I was a wee lad my parents rented a small (9 horse?) motor from the Bait Box for me to use to putter around the lakes. Awesome. When I was a teen and twenty something I rented jet skis to roar around the lakes and be silly. And now, we rent pontoons from there, for family outings. I guess that's understandable and, fortunately, I was able to repair it myself. They have a boat launch that is not for public use. Ugh, this would be so convenient for me because they are so close by (but it's also understandable). Fuel is the least expensive on the lake (hooray!). During some weekends in the Summer, they host a food truck with some outdoor seating and games like corn hole. It's a nice concept and we have eaten there once but skipped it the last few years because the food truck worker/owner was playing Jason Aldean music and sporting his t-shirt (If you're not sure who he is, just Google "racist country singer" and you'll see him near the top of your search results). Facts: The "Try That in a Small Town" music video by Jason Aldean was filmed at the Maury County Courthouse in Columbia, Tennessee. This location has a history of racial violence, including a 1927 lynching and 1946 race riots. The video also incorporates news footage of protests and riots, which led to controversy and CMT pulling the video from rotation. If you skip the food truck too, you won't be missing anything special. The food was pricey and exceptionally basic, 'drunk people food'. If you're looking for a good value on some good food, it's totally worth it to enjoy a boat ride to the DQ in Crosslake instead.

Giving credit, where credit is due, the staff came immediately to clean the bathroom, after I trudged down to the office to request this service. The property is poorly maintained, a couple of roofs obviously sagging, hose, mower and broken stepstool laying around by the fish cleaning house all week long. The inside pine work on the walls was shoddy as was the caulking around the shower etc. The office/store only sells sweatshirts, hats and fuel for the boats. No grocery items of any kind, not even a snack vending machine. . Our group rented two cabins . Not once during the entire week's stay did any of the staff come to find out if we needed anything, if we were comfortable..... They also never serviced the cabins. Not once! Nor did any of the staff nor the proprietors give any of us a "thank you" for renting from them - not even when we checked out. After all common courtesy goes a long way, but that was missing as well. I did not feel welcomed and I will not be returning there - definitely did not get my moneys worth .. This Sandbay Resort of today is a far cry from the beautiful and well kept resort of fifteen years ago. There are many gorgeous resorts around that area, better maintained, better furnished -including towels which were not provided here - and less expensive.
