So a few months ago, I was told my oil pan was leaky and that I'd need to get it replaced at some point. Not an emergency, but something to keep in mind. I decided to call Big Bargain's and order the parts for what seemed like a pretty decent price. This was close to Christmas when time and money are tight. "I need an oil pan and gasket for a 2005 Toyota Matrix" says I. "No problem, they'll be in tomorrow", says he. Picked them up and went on my way. My boyfriend had taken off the box with the intention of maybe trying to put them on for me (but thank god he didn't as you'll soon discover). Fast forward a few months when I finally had the time, money and opportunity to get them replaced. Took my car to Cdn Tire in Bayers Lake where as it turns out, a fellow from my hometown is the shop foreman. "I have the parts," says I. "Just need the labour". A few hours later, I get a call to tell me that the oil pan I have is NOT the right part. FFS. OK, so they have the correct oil pan but have no idea what the one I have is. So the bill goes from labour, to labour and parts. GREAT! Miraculously, I found the receipt in the back of my car for the original oil pan/gasket. Head to Dartmouth with my mystery part and hope for the best. The missing box becomes the issue. The missing part # becomes the issue. More or less understandable, except for the fact that they have a much better chance of figuring it out and selling it than me. AND the fact that it wasn't my mistake. It was them or their supplier. Cut to the chase and they gave me back the $ for my gasket (which was the cheap part) but refused to take the oil pan because "what are they supposed to do with it?" HA! What am I supposed to do with it??? The thing that really got me the most pissed off though was the fact that there was an expectation from the guy I was dealing with that I should have some understanding (sympathy) for his situation. He was condescending: "You look confused" said he. None of this was my fault. I trusted that I got what I ordered. And for the amount of money it would have been to accept the return of a clearly never used part, it wasn't worth how this whole experience made me feel. "I don't like pissing customers off, but..." he said. So he pissed me off for $85 and lost a customer for good. The only thing I can do is write this review. And hope someone on Kijiji buys the oil pan. Because otherwise I'm out the money for a part I never asked for. Thanks, Big Bargains. Really good deal.

We scheduled an appointment for the work a week later. The work was very professionally done and the quoted price given during the assessment was what I paid. I love that. Jim (the previous manager or owner) knew what customer service was and appreciated customer loyalty. Things have drastically changed! Just today I called looking to get on a hoist for an urgent but quick repair to refasten the heat shield to the underside of my car. The front half had fallen down and is acting like a plough and is about catch and completely rip off. Something that really couldn't wait, right?! I figured they could slip me in for the 5 minutes it would take to run a couple of screws in while I I waited. NOPE!! I called and spoke to a woman and told her the issue and that basically the car is not drivable without almost certain further immediate damage. When I suggested they might slip me in for this quick repair, she just about laughed. She went on to tell me that 10 DAYS from now is the first time they could possibly look at it and that they had 50 cars waiting. Huh? Not; " We happen to be super busy today but I'll see what I can do, OR try back later this afternoon OR I'll put you on a list for cancellations. Nothing. No effort to help. What's the point of being loyal to a garage when the one time I need something small done quickly they don't even try to help me? WTF I was extremely disappointed after all these years. I guess I'll have to go somewhere else. It appears their days of customer service are done and trying to jam through as many cars as possible is what's important. : (

On May 15, 2023, this repair shop, OK Tire at Lady Hammonds Rd., replaced a converter, charged me…read more$1,304.10 just for the part, plus costs for labors and supplies. With the invoice showing the code of the part, I was able to check by Googling the market price of the part - only to realize that the part is selling for $659.97 by Parts Avatar, delivered for free across Canada. So, the repair shop got an exorbitant 97% margin on the part! This is repair services where you make living largely on labor and expertise, not on parts you just order and pass their costs to customers, especially given the part's great availability in the whole country. Being in the business, the shop certainly can get an even lower price from its regular suppliers. The shop could have suggested to me to get the part delivered at a much lower cost to their shop to get installed; instead, they FOOLED a customer by HIDING such a possibility just to make UNJUSTIFIABLE money of $636 ! That is total lack of transparency, honesty, and customer care in best, and deceptive business practice in worst.

I scheduled my vehicle for repair on a Monday. They changed it to Tuesday. I dropped it off and was…read moretold it would be ready by next Wednesday. I called on the following Tuesday and was informed that it would be another week due to an issue with parts. An issue I had no control over. I didn't appreciate not being kept up to date and I told the receptionist as much. I may have said it was bullshit practice not to keep a customer informed or something along those lines. I wasn't happy. Anyway, she was apparently offended and today, Thursday, the manager calls and gives me shit for being not nice. So to recap: 1-they told me when it would be ready 2-they knew that changed but didn't bother to tell me 3-I call to confirm pick up and THEN they tell me there's a delay 4-the manager then thinks it prudent to call and berate a customer and says he listened to the tape of the call and claims I hung up and swore at her - not so much, but whatever. I told him it's the lack of communication and the poor attitude that's the issue. Is it just me or should they have let me know what's going on? And according to the manager " you have a rental so it's no big deal" seems a bit off. Perhaps keep your customers informed of changes and don't piss them off by being stupid about it. I don't know about the quality of their work but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I'll review their work when I finally get my vehicle back.
