When we arrived for our scheduled visit, we were not allowed to see a number dogs because "they don't get along with other dogs" even though we asked if we could bring our dog with for a meet and greet. We were only shown one dog, unfortunately, it was a three legged dog and we have many stairs. We were told we could make an an appointment with a dog being fostered. But they didn't tell us pre appointment. This all could have been communicated through email. What a disappointment.

The guy who put her down made sure that I took enough time with her & was very comforting. The whole staff was extremely kind through the whole process & never made me feel guilty for making the decision. I then bought my new puppy Duke from them & they helped me with everything to ensure that I left with him. This was very unlike the other shelters I went to because they want more than anything for every pet to get adopted. They had all his paperwork, microchip data, instructional tips, and even clipped his nails for me before we took him. Even though Duke has a couple fixable behavioral problems, he has become apart of our family. You can also tell they care for every animal in there. They knew all of the pets by name, and each pet had a huge space to themselves with a cot & occasional walks. All of the pets looked super healthy & I was glad to find a dog as great as Duke. South Suburban Humane Society has been there for me through my saddest moment to one of my happiest! I can never thank them enough for all that they have done for me.

Also the 3 vets and assistants who handle her didn't disinfect the room and touched her bare handed and probably spread it to other pets. I also asked if she should be confined from my other chinchilla and was told no. I was told she has ammonia. For a pet that's eats and lost alot of weight and cant walk straight you think they would at least have a better diagnosis. They also wanted to change me an additional 1300 dollars dor a CT scan that would have shown nothing. Blood work and fecal sample is what they should have done first.

We took our little girl for her first time haircut which can be very stressful for puppies. Lisa made it simple and very comfortable for her. Our puppy was able to roam around and feel at home while having her hair cut. Lisa is very warm and welcoming. The boutique itself is clean and doesn't smell bad like other places. Also she thankfully does NOT use cage dryers which is a huge deal for me! Cage dryers are super dangerous. Google it at your own risk. Something I was very impressed with when first going there, was how they had this section on their front, counter, that showed how they would light a candle for someone's pet being put to sleep and asking for people in the waiting area to be respectful.
