I had a reason to visit a social security office this past week. Not knowing much how they work, I…read morechecked out their website then called customer service to schedule a meeting. Apparently, it's hard to find social security administration offices with open appointment times. But, although a distance from my home, they were able to find an appointment a week out in their Wilmette office. As most government buildings are, this is an older location in need of a facelift. When we walked inside, the place was packed. I said to the person I was there with, "I'm glad we have an appointment." The security guard handed me a number and immediately the number one less than mine was called. He laughed and said all of the people there were ahead of me, and they don't call numbers in order. Before I sat down, our number was called next. We went to the window and the agent knew what we needed since we had an appointment. (I guess the crowd waiting didn't have appointments.) The transaction took less than five minutes and we were done. So, aside from the aesthetics, this trip was quick and productive. The rep helped us quickly and did a good job. I strongly suggest that, if you need to go to a Social Security office, you call their service number to make an appointment.

Mind you my number 58 never got called and I was sitting with a group of people and were all listening to eachothers numbers get called and still nobody calls me but everyone behind me goes up and when I finally say something they say they already called it???? Which is bs they can't even keep up with there numbers calling multiple numbers more than twice by different people. Then I had to start at number 10. Definitely need new employees who actually know what there doing. All I needed was a paper printed out and took 4 hours and counting because I'm still here cs it has the worlds laziest employees

I love this library especially during the summer time when they have the free concerts on Fridays…read more The staff there is really friendly and if they don't have a certain book they will do a interlibrary loan for you. The library is kept clean and santized. The remodels they have done make this my go to library. If you have children the children's area sponsored by Northshore is amazing. They change the theme of it and when I take my niece and nephew they have a blast with all the educational toys they have in there. The library is no longer just a boring place to them.

Paying for print is cheap, which is a plus. If you are living in a hotel, like my partner and I, you can get a temporary library card. The staff is super helpful as I was having trouble with the payment process since it is new to me. I love how clean it is, however, the noise is not for the noise-sensitive. I know they can't control it, but that is one downside. It is clean and well-kept. I went in to get something printed and went out with my item that was printed, a temporary library card, a movie, and a book. I love this library already as it was my first visit and I will keep coming here. I didn't expect much from this place, but they have exceeded my expectations.

Very frustrating experience with overnight parking citation…read more I have lived in Gurnee for more than 11 years and have never had an issue like this. In fact, I have not received a ticket of this nature in approximately 11 years. I recently received a $25 overnight parking citation for parking my vehicle on the public street directly in front of my home. My driveway was full because my family has four vehicles, and on this particular night I needed to leave very early, around 3:00 a.m. I parked the vehicle around 12:30 a.m. so I could leave quietly without disturbing my family. I understand that the Village has an overnight parking ordinance, and I fully accept responsibility for not knowing about the 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. restriction. However, I respectfully contacted the Gurnee Police Department officer N. Wright #125 and requested that the citation be waived as a one-time courtesy, especially since this was my first overnight parking citation and there was no complaint, obstruction, or apparent disturbance caused by my vehicle. I also pointed out that the citation lists the location as 1717 Hillside Ct, while my actual home address is 1705 Hillside Ct, which I believe is an error. Unfortunately, my request was declined. I was told that the citation had already been processed and that it would not be waived. What is most frustrating is that this situation could have been handled with a warning, particularly for a longtime resident with no history of this type of violation. I respect the police department and understand that officers are enforcing Village regulations, but I feel there should be some reasonable discretion for first-time, non-disruptive situations. I am not disputing the existence of the ordinance. I am simply disappointed with how this particular situation was handled and with the lack of consideration for the circumstances. I hope the Village of Gurnee and Gurnee Police Department will consider providing more discretion or warnings for first-time overnight parking violations, especially when there is no obstruction, complaint, or public safety issue. After living here for more than 11 years and never having this type of issue, receiving a citation for leaving my own vehicle in front of my home under these circumstances was extremely frustrating. I understand rules must be enforced, but I believe good community policing should also include common sense, communication, and reasonable discretion.
