Unfortunately, we rented this houseboat under false advertising. The video of what the houseboat and the amenities looked like, was absolutely not what we paid $6000 for (thurs-sun). It was highly disappointing. We were told to only use one engine for a 70' houseboat due to a check engine light, there were not screens on every window to prevent bugs coming in, the ice maker and refrigerator on the top deck were completely removed and boarded up, the deck chairs were broken in some areas, only one speaker worked, there was mold on the interior window of the bathroom, the hot tub was dirty and had no cover to keep the bugs out of at night and no skimmer to clean it out, it had a coffee maker, but no coffee filters. There was severe water damage inside the bathroom and kitchen from the hot tub's water flowing through the windows during travel. We honestly made the best out of a really crappy situation, but we will never rent another houseboat at Lake Don Pedro. We literally were charged a ton of money for garbage. So utterly disappointing. Rented tritoon #11 on Saturday August 26, 2003. This pontoon seats 12 with half a bimini for shade. It was perfect for our day trip for fishing and sightseeing. Reserving the pontoon online was super easy. When arriving at the gate, the marina is a sharp right, with the boat rental to the right of the ramp. Parking is available at the marina along the ramp and upper level lot $20 for the day. The store is open until 4:30pm and they have 6lb bags of ice for $12. The store has beer and other essentials like sunblock and clothing. The pontoon rental was due back by 4:15pm that Saturday. We returned it early and gas refill was $97 for 15.5 gallons. Overall the LDP marina is a great resource and rental was super easy, efficient and a great day spent with family. read more

When planning a family vacation to remember I started to search lakes for houseboat rentals. I began looking at several locations but narrowed it down to Don Pedro Lake due to the great reviews. I read about the great staff at the Marina and how renting a houseboat was a great experience, but they go above and beyond to make sure you are successful. Not only were they very helpful on my pre-trip questions, but they also made returning the boat a breeze. With a driver that gets on and off of your boat to get you in and out of the marina, you really can be successful in driving the boat on the lake. I can not tell you how supportive they were in helping us with our daughter who had to arrive a little later than we anticipated when we booked. With the great staff and the incredible lake, this is a vacation the whole family votes to do again in the future. We rented a 58' houseboat that fit our family and had plenty of room for more. With 4 bedrooms and a fully appointed kitchen, we could land where we wanted on the lake and set up camp for the night. It was amazing, to be able to jump off the back of the boat for a swim at any time and enjoy the sun from the top deck in between swims. We found a new spot for each of the 3 nights we stayed. We enjoyed each location for relaxation and great views. This was our first trip on a houseboat, and I realized all you need is some meals, a swimsuit, and some floats. We also brought a few board games, but overall the lake was the entertainment. They have a great stereo to which you can hook your phone (download your playlist) and enjoy the lake. I went on a 6 night houseboat trip in the 58' Golden State Houseboat. It was AMAZING!!! From when you first show up, there were wheelbarrow type carts there to help you load up. Having those there were beyond helpful. Especially if you have to carry in a weeks worth of food and gear. (Know that you will be charged for parking, but it's worth it because your car will be watched while on the lake. I think we paid $140 for the week.) Once we checked in we got a thorough tutorial from the dock crew we were of to have one of the best vacations of my life. The dock crew were incredibly friendly, and answered all my questions with a positive attitude. The Golden State boat was super cozy. I have been to Shasta on a houseboat trip in the past and its layout/furniture were leaps and bounds better than any dock on Shasta. The HVAC system is central air, so air conditioning covered every room onboard. My room at night was a perfect 68 degrees all night. Perfect for this Bay Area boy. The best part is that the generator was highly efficient so we barely used any gas for the first 3 nights with system on. One thing to note is that the on board toilets were a little close to the ground as they are marine style heads. If you have any big and tall folks with you they may struggle with that. It's not impossible to use, just awkward. The kitchen had everything you could need to make yummy food and the grill on the forward porch was kept well maintained. Having a reliable blender and coffeemaker made breakfasts amazing and Happy Hour memorable. Beds were a little small as they are all full size, but very comfortable. Each bedroom has a power outlet for charging your devices. Also, I use a CPAP. With the generator I was able to breathe free all night with no problem. All around it was a great trip and the Marina crew did everything possible to make our trip safe and fun. Big shout out to Alyssa and Caroline (hope I spelled that right). Visited Don Pedro for a week long family outing, and had to make the mandatory stop at the Marina for a cup of soft serve for the kids. The store is well staffed, clean, and tidy. They offer a variety of products you may have forgotten to pack for your trip. The also have a nice offering of souvenirs, snacks, drinks, and yes, booze. We frequently go on day trips and rent a boat from the marina. We always get food from the restaurant at the dock before we head out. The staff at the restaurant and at the marina rental counter are always so friendly and on top of things. We often see some of the same faces and they're always welcoming and personable. The lake itself is chill and clean, and we absolutely love it. I cannot recommend the lake and highlight the experiences with the staff enough! read more

I have rented here three times and had a very good experience each time. You can try a boat out for 2 or 4 hours instead of an all-day reservation if you are willing to take a chance on availability. On a short rental you may be able to negotiate the return time as 2 hours from when you pull away from the dock with the dock hands. The paperwork does take 15 minutes or so, so arrive early. The staff explained the boat and training well and was friendly and patient. Don Pedro is a good-sized lake, and the Flemings Meadow side is less attractive than the Moccasin side. You can rent at Moccasin also. So if you have time, head to the other side and go up to the Tuolomne river finger, which is the main source of the water for the lake. The lake is usually smoother in the morning and usually smoother on the Moccasin side. The boats are not in perfect shape, so pay attention during walkthrough, and consider changing boats if something is broken. Test your boat near the marina before you head off far. Before you leave, look closely at the gas gauge and ask them to top off the tank, and then look at the gas gauge again and have them write down where the needle is. The needle moves depending on how the boat is sitting. Boats get about 2 miles a gallon at full speed, so be prepared to spend $25+ an hour of run time. Bring most of your food and drinks as there are limited options at the marina and around the lake. And bring a garbage bag for your trash. The water level is low already this year, so the lake is smaller but still big enough for you, your boat, and your crew. I understand the frustration of other reviewers who had bad props and engine problems, so you need to be ultra-attentive and hands-on before you arrive and during checkout. If it's not right, then demand a different boat or wait for the repair. Boats can be needy and renters don't or can't always treat them well. Last time I went out on a private boat, it had a steering problem and sucked up half the play time with dodgy repair. The marina has a mechanic, and that's one more than we have. read more

The people who work here were great, informative and fun. I had my boaters license but I guess you dont need it here. They also did not have anchors on the boats. They said the anchors they had were only 8 pounds so didnt hold. So it was a pain to go in coves and have to move every 10-15 minutes becaue the boat would be floating off. What I didnt like was that I had an expectation that paying $848 for a ski boat that it would go fast. There was plenty of seating, but the boat was hella slow and disappointing. For some reason I thought the gas was included, but when we got back the gas was $125. They asked me if we had fun and I said it was too damn slow, the fastest was maybe 20mph IF that. They said they put governors on the boats so people wouldnt go too fast. I said thats the point of a ski boat. I won't rent here again because of how much I paid and how slow we went. When we go to Bass Lake boat rentals in Oakhurst they dont put governors on their boats. read more

We rented a 12-person pontoon boat from here last Saturday and had an incredible time on the lake. The staff here, especially Colleen and Tyler, were especially kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. The check-in and check-out process was smooth and easy. The boat was clean and functioned well, no complaints. If booking during non-peak season, instead of booking an 8-hour reservation (the only thing available on weekends), I recommend trying for a walk-in which lets you rent by the hour (2-hour minimum). The marina also had live bait which we purchased onsite for fishing. Overall, had a great time here and will definitely return! read more

Ski boats to slow!! Planned a weekend trip to the lake and the highlight of the trip was our ski boat rental at Lake Don Pedro. We rented the Bayliner 19. Not only was the boat slow, I think they put governors on the engine, but the motor constantly sputtered as if there were water in the gas tank. The boat was so dirty! The dashboard was dusty, the splash guard above the dashboard was dusty. The mph gage didn't work, cobwebs all over the bimini side poles, spiders running around, cushions with huge rips. I think that boat was in storage and pulled out to use as a rental at the last minute. I was truly disappointed that I paid over $800 to rent this boat! It was too slow to pull a wakeboard and barely pulled a two person tube. When we called them to notify them of the engine problems the response was that's how the boat is. They didn't charge us for the rentals of the wakeboard and tube since we couldn't use them but they should have given us a discount off the rental. The employers were nice, understanding and really helpful. I don't blame them on the quality of the rental. The management of this Suntex location should not rent out such poorly maintained boats. read more

Beautiful skies, nice body of water , scenic view , restrooms on site as well as showers ?! This place has it all , if you are not use to camping and have fear of wild animals this is the place for you ! I love camping , going to the most remote areas and fishing in some of California's greatest lakes I can honestly say that this place is a good start for beginners . On this trip I went with about 9 others and we all set up shop right by the water . We were able to drop out jet ski in the water at the dock and leave it on the water by our lot over night . Everyone here is very respectful the most part.safety is a big then here so you will see dozens of signs with warnings , per caution and more. Each lot has a fire hole and a storage container to keep the critters out. As far as critters the only ones that I saw were lizards , toads (caught three and placed them in safe areas away from foot traffic ) , fish (tiny tiny ) and jack rabbits . My concern is the lack of supervision . Our neighbor next to us continued to shoot air soft bullets in the water where we were swimming and they almost hit out jet ski several times with theirs . They had no care for the speed and distance laws and allowed under age children to drive the jet ski (7 and under ) Other than this incident everything else was okay , great experience and would definitely return ! read more

Wow!! Lake Don Pedro Marina just called me two days prior to my arrival to tell me that the generator on the boat went out last week. Over $400 on food and supplies have been bought in preparation for a trip we can no longer take. People took time off of work. What type of greedy ass business are they running? It was my sons birthday party and now I have to call 20 people and let them down. I'm beyond pissed. The days are hot and Cooter gets grumpy when its hot... so it was time to take old Cooter on the lake to cool off. Myself and 4 friends, including old Cooter, called in and reserved a nice little house boat called the Carmel. Nicole at the marina helped me make the reservation over the phone and it couldn't have gone smoother. We arrived an hour before our scheduled boarding time and the team at the marina allowed us to load our stuff so we could take off on time.
