Not to mention, it took about 30 minutes to get our food so we were just ready to be at home after working all week. We didn't expect the wait to be so long. The next day, I placed the fish in the air fryer and potatoes in the microwave. Potatoes needed butter and seasoning as they were dry and not much flavor. The fish...woah! Even reheated and crispy again from the air fryer, it was wonderful. I squeezed some fresh lemon on it and a little salt...wow! We'll go again but not plan on wanting to eat right away in case it takes as long to get our food again. I went with the house-made fries which were thin and crispy instead of the frozen crinkle cut (someone in our group who tried both said they preferred the house-made). My significant other chose the hash browns with his prime rib - we both agreed these were delicious. I tried a few bites of the prime rib as well, and I thought it was good. All-in-all, we had a good experience at The Rivers. The service was great, the atmosphere was traditional, and the food was good. The food was a little on the pricey side ($20/plate), but the portions were definitely large. The drinks were inexpensive; they had an old fashioned special going that night of $3.50/drink. I don't normally order cocktails but being in a supper club it seemed like the thing to do, so I went with a brandy old fashioned sweet with olives. I was pretty satisfied with it! When you consider the food prices, the credit card fee, and the taste of the food itself, it's hard to even give this place 3 out of 5 stars and call it "average." To start, the prices are quite high. For what they're charging, I expected much better food. On top of that, they also charge a credit card fee, which means they are passing that cost onto the customer in addition to the high menu prices. That alone is an immediate negative for me. The ambience of the place itself isn't bad. It's a larger restaurant, and the curved door and circular shape are actually kind of cool. It's also cool having TVs all around. We were there on a Saturday night, and it was pretty slow. That said, if the locals have been here before, I can understand why it was slow, given the food quality and prices. I got the 1/2 Tequila BBQ Burger, and it was pretty boring. I can make much better burgers at home. It needed better seasoning, or really just any seasoning at all. The tequila bbq sauce was fine, but it mostly tasted like very sweet barbecue sauce. I got waffle fries with my order, and they were also just fine. Someone else at our table got the beer-battered fries, and those were much better. I do want to give them credit there. The beer-battered fries were actually quite good. I asked my wife and sister what they thought of their meals, and both of them were incredibly disappointed. My wife got a salad with chicken, and it was very boring. Again, it was something we could make better at home for cheaper. My sister got the salmon, and she was not impressed at all. I read through some of the other reviews, and I think a lot of them may be from locals, whereas I was just visiting town. But I agree with many of the negative points people have made, and I've already said it here: the food just isn't good, especially considering the prices they're charging. I'd recommend looking for a different restaurant in the area. If management happens to read this review, I think they could improve things by reviewing the quality of the food they're serving and working to improve the overall taste. Otherwise, they should consider lowering prices to better match the quality of the food. The portion sizes were good, and that is another thing I do want to give them credit for. At the end of the day, maybe we just didn't order the right things, but no one at our table enjoyed their meal enough to want to go back. This place needs a lot of work, and I hope they have better success in the future. Next time we are in town, though, we will be going somewhere else.
