I went to the Ding with my Mom for a Friday lunch and had an excellent meal at a great price. Mom had the fried walleye and potato salad and really liked her dish. I had Ahi Tuna, which was a surprise for a local tavern like this, and was pleasantly surprised at how it came out. It was tasty with a wasabi sauce and some good potato salad and very good coleslaw. The slaw had some type of pepper in it that gave a perfect kick. A nice beer and great conversation with the patrons. I recommend if you are in the area. read more

Isolated country bar serving delicious food. Daily specials. When one arrives, it is a nondescript building. However, the view from the bar is beautiful. Whitewater rapids on the Pine River, with a couple cabins on the opposite shore. One of the nicest views of any restaurant I visited, anywhere. Service is good, you order at the bar. Daily specials. I have been coming here since the 70s. Not much has changed. Great atmosphere. It is located on beautiful Pine River. The views are stunning. Great patio overlooking the river. Very friendly staff and patrons. Lots of regulars. Great place to watch a game. The food is delicious. The gluten free pizza is some of my most favorite. My husband loves the Ding Mac. There's a whole lot to like about The Ding! You might be surprised when you pull up to this bar/restaurant in the middle of nowhere and see a packed parking lot mid afternoon. This country bar and grill would be easy to miss, and that would be a shame. The pickup trucks in the lot indicate it's a local favorite. I quickly found out why. I sat at a high top. A sign said no table service, order at the bar, but the very friendly and sneaky cute bartender came over. She was a middle aged blonde who said she liked her job, had been at it a while. My brother arrived and we both ordered mushroom Swiss burgers. The menu said everything is locally sourced. I like that. Since there's no wait staff, it was the cook who delivered the food. I liked that, too. The burger was good, the atmosphere warm, the people friendly, the prices fair. What more do you need? If you can find Wild Rose, Wisconsin and drive East a few miles to find The Ding. Be sure to ask how it got that name. The theories are interesting. read more

I placed and paid for an order prior to the other couple in my party. I ordered the pizza that was on special and an appetizer. The other couple ordered a couple appetizers a pizza and burger and fries and were paying on a tab. They received their food. I received my appetizer when their food came. After waiting 1 hour and not receiving my pizza. I went in to ask the lady in charge. She then came out and reported the order never was put in and it was because of a computer issue. They did not charge us for one round of drinks and I still had to wait for the pizza to be made. A good business would have refunded me my money and given me the pizza. To use the computer as an excuse is truly not an excuse, and additional compensation should have been given. read more

The food here is stunningly mediocre, provided you can actually get the staff to take your order and/or bring it to you before you die of old age. Prepare yourself for the "You ain't from around here stare from the staff and other patrons while you wait" Showing up completely intoxicated would help with your experience here, not only making the food more palatable but easing the other patrons paranoia that you may be a cop scouting them out to make an easy DUI arrest. read more

I've been to "The Ding" on and off for 15 years. I am so impressed with the changes that have been made. The atmosphere is phenomenal with the view of the creek and tonight was the first time we have had the opportunity to eat in post pandemic (we did lots of takeaway fish fries). The Friday night perch is to die for! Potato salad is so good, not overly goopy. Same goes for the cole slaw, you won't be throwing it out. Great burgers, dynamite tenderloin sandwich and some of the best ever fried green beans. Get here early or expect to wait. One of the lady bartenders was so efficient, like she could hear me set down an empty bottle and had a new one coming. It's rare to find a great bartender like that. read more

The past owners were very unfriendly and treated anyone that wasn't a local with zero respect, so in 16 years coming to my cottage I went in 2 times and stopped. The new owners have tried to give the original Ding a face lift but it still seems like a work in progress, it's a bit more friendly but still needs a lot of work when it comes to customer service not to mention the prices on drinks are equal to big city prices. As a former bartender.....My advice; change the name the "Ding" has a sour taste in a lot of people's mouths except for the locals, Have some drink special and go out of your way to welcome "Guests" into your bar. If you want to feel welcome go to Oakwood, the owner there knows who is putting money in his pockets and treats guests like family. read more

If you want to get dressed up fancy and have a fancy night out, this is not the place for you. Hell, if you want to feel totally comfortable using their restrooms, then this is not the place for you. But...But...But...If you are like me and you are looking for a bar where you can win a raw, uncooked pork chop or shelf vodka once a month, you have found your place. Oh and then throw in pull tabs, pool table, darts, analog TV, organ recitals, quarter plinko, Tuesday Burger night, video poker, animal crane, bar dice, Sunday Dinner oh and did I mention the meat raffle? D.o. N.o.t. M.i.s.s. If you want to just wear whatever you have on and spend $9 on 4 cocktails, then you've found your destination. This was the worst experience, I have ever had, it was my daughter and son-in-laws 10th Anniversary, Party of 5 went for pizza with Grandparent and two grandkids, ordered at the bar, took the furthest table from the bar and everyone else, our 3 year old was unruly, took her out to the deck but people were smoking, went to look at the creek, took her to the restroom, she was not behaving well, but had a lady cook reprimand our party numerous times, then had a man come and yell at us again and told us to leave, obviously someone doesn't understand children, and as a consistent patron should not have been treated like this. Maybe after being told it was an anniversary and being told to leave they shouldn't have charged for the meal? Again we had taken the 3 year old outside, away from everyone until the food was finished and was still being reprimand from kitchen staff, and the bar tenders were not aware until the end when we told them we had to leave abruptly. read more

Hostess gives new meaning to the word B! I called earlier in the day to find out what time they start serving fish fry. She say it started at 11:00 AM! Never did she mention it was carry out only and you had to call with your order very early in the day! Took us 30 minutes to drive there to get there at 4:45 only to ask the less than charming hostess ( never said hello, may I help you)about carry out only. Told her I called earlier and she never mentioned this. Then she says the earliest we can get take out is 7:30!! WTF! Are you kidding!!! Were told they had great thin crust pizza. We were not disappointed! Excellent thin, crispy crust with fresh toppings. Super yummy and great leftover too. Also had some fries and got a large portion. We will be back to try the burgers. read more

I need to mention that 2012 negative review was a review of the former owner, who stayed in the business too long. I do not doubt the truth of their review. That being said, the Ding is under new ownership and many positive change are occurring. The food is excellent, especially the pizzas. The bar was moved to offer customers a stunning view of the Pine River, with it's tumbling current and large strewn boulders. Yes, there is remodeling going on, but it doesn't detract from what is already good. To me it speaks of even better days to come. I only get there a couple times a year, but I enjoy myself every time. It's an "up north" kinda tavern with a million dollar view! read more

I wish I could give this place a "0" star rating. The owner of this bar is very rude and inconsiderate. Upon ordering our drinks the bartender immediately referred to us as flat-landers (we are from WI) and after spending quite a bit of money one of the bar "regulars" picked a fight with us and my husband and I were asked to leave the bar by the owner. This is not the first time we have been to this place and been treated poorly by the bartender or the owner. We will not be returning. read more
