Forty-eight hours after completing the final lock-in for my Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) cataract surgery with Dr. Scott Wehrly at Lake Eye, the transformation is astonishing. My distance and near vision are clearer than they've been in more than 40 years! From the first consultation with Dr. Wehrly at the Tavares, Florida office, to the procedure at the Santa Fe Surgical Center, and the subsequent light adjustments at Lake Eye's Wildwood, Florida location, every step was handled with exceptional skill and professionalism. I felt completely at ease throughout the process. Special appreciation goes to Nicole, Zoe, and Amanda, whose kindness and support made each visit enjoyable. Dr. Wehrly and Lake Eye earn my highest recommendation for cataract surgery as well as routine eye care. For anyone considering the Light Adjustable Lens process--my treatment involved 10 appointments over 11 weeks--I found it worth the commitment. My husband and I each had appointments, separate days, with Dr. Mari Holderby, for routine annual eye exams which is covered by our insurance. We each paid for a contact lens fitting ($105). We learned that our insurance covered this as well, but we were never contacted to receive a refund. After numerous phone calls, we were reimbursed $65 each, but they kept $40 for each of us as our co-pay. I tried to explain insurance pays for routine eye exams. After speaking with the insurance, the provider coded our exams as speciality exams, not routine. Their office was contacted and they would not resubmit or recode the visits. We are done with them. We do not like their business practice and feel they would have completely kept our money and the insurance company's payment to them had we not found out and contacted them. In other words, they double billed. They are also dishonest about our exams being specialty appointments. This was our very first visit to this provider for our annual routine eye exams. We will NOT be returning. If you have insurance, be sure to check your benefit with an eye provider and your EOB! We do not feel they are to be trusted when it comes to billing practices. read more

I'm finished with this clinic. Optometrist was okay but when I checked out the receptionist wanted me to pay for a contact lens exam and prescription. I didn't ask for contacts or for an examination for contacts. I paid for a refraction for glasses but I had no need for contacts. I do wear contacts but only occasionally and my supply was adequate! Not to mention my last exam for contacts was only a year ago. The receptionist from the other office said too bad I had to pay for it. When they checked with the doctor she said that was fine just not to give me the prescription! They shredded it. Which was fine with me but I'm left with the overall impression that the name of the game was to get every single dollar from you that they can. This was my last visit with them. read more

Had a follow up appointment today for an eye pressure check. Had first appointment of day - 8am. I was here at 7:45 to check in - which BTW they had sent me a text at 7AM stating that I MUST check in now for 8AM appointment... looks like they would prefer self check in /out as I guess this gives the employees more time to talk with coworkers as they arrive (late I am sure)the receptionist did stop taking care of me to talk with an employee about last nights dinner - anyway, 8am came and went and I watched employees slowly arriving. Eventually I was called in for a couple of exams. Once completed, they placed me in the second waiting room with several other patients... apparently we all had 8am appointments... They finally started bringing patients into exam rooms for the doctor... we were now at 8:45am - could have been sooner if employees actually showed up on time but that is not the case. I guess they lack an actual practice manager to address tardiness of employees OR maybe they just feel it is okay to be rude / unprofessional when dealing with patients who do as requested and arrive in timely manner so we can just sit around waiting for them to arrive and do their job. - when I finally saw the doctor for the three minute visit (yes, I timed it) I was done with my appointment at 9:25. While a "full" exam can take some time, this was only to check eye pressure which was completed by the first assistant after being in the first exam chair after about 5 minutes.... Lesson to be learned is to teach our children how to be respectful of people (including others value of their time) and encourage them to get into medical field as they really need employees that treat the patients with respect, arrive to work on time especially when their tardiness impacts others, and not be more concerned with what your coworkers did last night VS doing the job they were hired for. Today's visit gets one star and that star is for me, the patient, arriving on time and doing as requested. Lake Eye Associates, do better! read more

My dad has been going to Lake Eye for several years, happily. This year, they also removed my Dad's cataracts. The surgery went well. My impression was that he was not suppose to be aware during surgery or be able to remember, but he was. Even when we mentioned this between surgeries, it was the same issue for the second one. As I am a complete chicken, this would terrify me. He, however, has no qualms so was fine. He still needs glasses as he didn't get the $1600 per eye laser correction too. We are back to get the glasses prescription. The lady who did the eye exam was super nice. My dad suffers from anxiety and gets nervous. She was extremely patient with him. This location has a large lobby with a TV. There is a gender neutral restroom inside the lobby. There are also women and men restrooms with located next to the elevators off the hall, outside the office. The office also has a small frame selection. The person helping with frame selection was also very nice. read more

I have used Lake Eye for years. I don't know what happened, maybe because a corporation purchased it, but it has gone downhill tremendously. It truly makes me sad, as I used to recommend them all the time. They never answer the phone during business hours; if you schedule for the Mt Dora location, don't be surprised if no one is there. I had ordered glasses to be delivered there, and they sat for weeks, unknown to me because no one was at that office. If I hadn't called to ask and make them go get them, It would have been even longer before I got them. The Tavares location doesn't even have a phone message to tell you about their business. After waiting a month for the contacts, I found they had ordered the incorrect ones, and they had to reorder and wait another month. I just got the new ones in, and they are not right either. I will not even ask for a refund as I am so tired of dealing with them. I will chalk this up as a very expensive lesson. They have lost my business of many years. They really need to shape up and run all the locations better or they will keep losing good clients. read more

I have been using them for about 5 yrs. now . I never had a problem with them until I received my glasses last week. I know that when I ordered them I said that I wanted translucent lenses because I read when in the pool. I picked them up and when I got them on the did not get dark. When I went back they said that I did not order them that way and my ins. doesn't cover that.I have gotten glasses from them every year with it. I went home and called my ins. co. and they said it was covered so they called lake eye and were told that I would have to pay for new lenses if I wanted them that way. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE ORDER in writing when you order your glasses. read more

Last exam was over two years ago so I needed checkup and I was experiencing flashes and floaters for the first time so I called and got an appointment. Dr. Gutti was very rude and did not explain why I was having the problems. Firstly the assistant put the numbing drops in the wrong eye. I was told repeatedly to hold my head still, then I was told if I didn't hold my eye still he wouldn't be able to do the test on my retina. Then said there is nothing wrong with my eye and floaters will go away, told to follow up with my annual doctor, then he walked out. At check out they asked if I wanted to schedule an appointment for next year. And there was some miscommunication between then and doctor. I asked if I was going to get a prescription for new glasses and was told I would need to have an exam. I said I haven't been here in in 2 years and I thought I just got an exam. I was given no paperwork explaining what had just happened and now I will have to pay out of pocket for another exam since insurance only covers 1 a year. The staff is friendly and professional, and other doctors I've seen in the past were great. But I did not feel comfortable with and do not recommend Dr Gutti. read more
