Get your eyes checked by the doctors; trust them with cataract surgery. 5-stars for the doctors, nurses, receptionist, and other surgical help staff. My dad is a long-term patient who routinely gets his eye exams by Lake Eye. The doctors caught the forming cataracts and monitored until the cataracts needed surgery. He's had one surgery and is awaiting the other. Everyone was very patient with his nervousness and all my after-care questions. Avoid Sharon who helps pick out frames and arranges making the glasses! Go to the Tavaras location instead. The good thing is she isn't high pressure or concerned about making sales. However, She doesn't listen. First, she insisted that my broken glass frames, which were not purchased there, were under warranty even though they are not. I told her lenses under a year old and frames were over 2 years old. Second, she insisted I replace them at the store I got them instead of just giving her the prescription and paying for new glasses frames ($215) and lenses. She could not understand, because she wouldn't listen, that I only had sunglasses as a backup and needed my regular glasses to read, drive, and work (even if the ear piece was taped). I told her I didn't want to drive down to Miami. She snottily replied "have you never heard of mail". Now, how is that suppose to solve my problem as I would be without glasses for a substantial period of time especially using snail mail?Totally disgusted and frustrated, I sat down in the waiting room to await my dad. While I was waiting, an elderly couple came into see Sharon explaining that the husband had scratched one of his transitions lens badly and wanted to purchase a replacement lens or have the scratch buffed out. Sharon explained she could not buff out a transition lens so the couple attempted to order a replacement lens. When Sharon was told that he had an appointment at the end of November, she told them it would be less expensive to wait for the new prescription. The wife explained again that he couldn't see and the scratch was causing headaches. Sharon replied it would be cheaper to wait and told them to go home and reconsider their decision. Looking befuddled, they left. Really?!?! My elderly mom who in her southern belle way was quite well dressed for the doctors wandered over to the glasses area. Sharon was all over her immediately with trying to sell her something. I got their Bill. tried to pay by phone , did not work. then I tried to pay online , none the button including pay on line is working. call their number and talked with a representative and she said she can take my payment but I have to pay additional 3%. Made my appointment for 12/25. PERSONALLY, stopped in and GAVE them my insurance information, I took the day OFF work, arrived at office in Leesburg........UMMM, I am sorry, the doctor doesn't take this insurance, we will have to schedule you with someone else??? WTF...I personally GAVE you my insurance and NOW after taking the day off, you tell me he doesn't take this insurance. The girl at the front desk said, I am sorry, they should have caught that earlier.. YA THINK? TODAY 2/26, I got a refund check from their office?? I didn't pay anything to them, when I got there.... So I call the billing department, which you can't get through too, they had to call me back. Finally this afternoon, I got a call. The girl answering the phone said you called us, what did you need??? I am like, who is this? She then said, oh, Lake eye associates. I told her I received a check and I never even saw a doctor. She said, well, it was probably an overpayment?? I said I haven't seen a doctor in 2 years....I said, well, you mean to tell me you can't tell me what it is for...she said, well, yes, but I need your name? VERY RUDE!!!! so after she was on the phone for a bit, she said, oh yes, that is from 2024????? again, WTF...well, we will just say we have been audited and now they are having to pay everyone back for the overpayment THEY received from my insurance company and have been holding on to it...... HELLLOOOOOOO????? are you kidding me? This place is committing fraud!!! Forget it, I will NEVER go back here!! HORRIBLE! Other than the women at the front desk who were very kind and pleasant. Took my 95 yr old mother for a specific eye test related to a medication that could cause permanent damage and no one ever called her to stop taking the med! She had to make 2 calls her self and still no one has called her to explain anything! I have put out 2 calls to the clinic manager over a week ago and " Miss Wendy" has still not called me. So today, I went for appt #3 at Lake Eye Associates, just to check the fit and correction on my newly prescribed left contact. I love it. The appointment to establish the prescription was wonderful, and the correction is great! The trial lenses were only 10 days worth, so they ran out before today's appt. So, I had already ordered some online with the "trial" prescription. They are also fabulous! At the appt, I was asked to verify exactly what I had ordered--a little annoying, but ok. With that done, vision and fit were checked, and Doc said they would "finalize the prescription" and print a copy for me. Awesome. At check out, I was told that "a prescription costs $50." To print it, I asked? Apparently so; or someone was very new. Skeptical, I googled this practice online and found that the FTC has sent numerous letters to ophthalmic providers concerning prescription copies. A copy of the letter follows: FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION Division of Advertising Practices December 2020 Notice of the Ophthalmic Practice Rules ("Eyeglass Rule") The staff of the Division of Advertising Practices of the Federal Trade Commission recently received a complaint claiming that your office failed to provide a consumer with an eyeglass prescription at the end of the eye examination. We are writing to inform you that such a practice would violate the FTC's Ophthalmic Practice Rules, 16 C.F.R. Part 456, known as the Eyeglass Rule, which require prescribers to provide a copy of the eyeglass prescription immediately after the eye examination, even if the patient does not request it, and prohibit prescribers from requiring that patients buy eyeglasses as a condition of providing a copy of the prescription. You should also know that prescribers cannot place a liability waiver on the prescription, require patients to sign a waiver, or require patients to pay additional fees,1 in exchange for a copy of the prescription. I just wanted to take the time to thank Lake Eye for everything they have done for me. Being new to the area and looking at reviews, I came across Lake Eye while looking for someone to perform cataract surgery on my right eye. I had my left eye done in South Fla. and waited to get scheduled for my right but could not get it done before I moved up here. I went 1 yr. before I could get the other one done. From the first contact with Lake Eye, I knew I had made the right decision. Natile was awesome! She had to deal with my old PCP ( I had to fire them...long story). They would not cooperate with her in getting the right codes to get the authorization to be seen by Lake Eye. Thru her persistence, I was finally able to get them from my new PCP. Everything after that fell into place. The staff is super friendly, and Dr. Werly was the best! Everything explained, great procedure, and now I can see so much better. Then after the surgery and trying to pick out where to get my glasses, I ended up buying from them in-house . Dinna was awesome also! She even saved me $100.00 out of pocket on my new glasses. Got a great pair that look and fit great. So happy to see clearly again! I would highly recommend Lake Eye for all your vision needs. 5 Stars! read more

Three Strikes and I am OUT Original appointment a year ago went well, loved the Doctor (Dr. Rawls). Ordered new glasses for computer work that the Doctor went to great lengths to make sure the on-site lens shop would understand. (These are different from a standard progressive lens). First set arrived and were just basic glasses - not what was ordered. (STRIKE 1). When I called, the lens shop said I had to return and go through the doctor appointment again because they didn't believe they were the issue. So, I drove 45 minutes, one-way, to see the Doctor who promptly looked at the glasses and walked over to the lens shop and told them they were wrong and showed them, again, in great detail what she (I) wanted. (The lens shop argued with her and she was pretty upset) Two weeks later, I received lenses that were identical to the first wrong ones. (STRIKE 2) I eventually contacted a Manager and I spent almost an hour on the phone with her over an afternoon getting it sorted out. Three weeks later (8 weeks from when I first ordered them) I received glasses that were correct. I made an appointment for this year (Originally Dec 7th) back in the summer and received a call a couple months ago asking us to change dates because the Doctor's schedule changed. No big deal, set it up for today (12/10). A quick aside - I had problems with the first appointment getting made at the correct office (I wanted it at the office near Wildwood on SR 44, they kept putting me at 'The Villages' office which is near Spanish Springs which is 30 minute further for me. I finally started calling the office I wanted as 'Near Wildwood on SR 44' to make sure they got it right.) We get there today and they had made the appointment for, you guessed it, Spanish Springs - (even though I asked to make sure it was Wildwood) and there is no way you can get there in time to make an appointment when you are 'on-time' at Wildwood. (As an aside, both times I've been to this location, at least one other patient showed up and found out their appointment was somewhere else. I suspect I am not the only one with this issue) Well, you know you can't make an appointment in December at the last minute so now, we are screwed for the year - basically threw away our VSP for the year. As a new patient, I received a "warm welcome" letter with my package of forms to fill out. Had an appointment at 7:30 a.m., and I was asked to be there 15 minutes early. Got there at 7:10, and all the lights were off. Sign on the door said open 8:30a-5:00p. Pulled on the door,, and it was locked. We called the office to confirm location and got answering service, who told us the offices don't start answering phones until 8:00 a.m. We waited a few minutes (past 7:15) and didn't see any activity, so we thought that maybe it was the Leesburg office instead...that I had my information incorrect. Tried calling that office and got answering service again. Drove to Leesburg office only to be told it was supposed to be The Villages office after all, and they usually don't open their doors until 7:20 (so why ask a patient to be there 15 minutes early for a 7:30 appt when you know you don't open until 7:20?). Leesburg office called Villages office and asked if I could drive back (it's now 7:35). Villages office said "I would not make the 15-minute-late appointment window, and Dr. Wehrly was booked for the rest of the day, so I would have to reschedule." Uh, no. I don't. I told them to forget it. If this is how the offices are run, and if this is how they treat a new patient, the last thing I want is them touching my eyes.
