Everything I tasted was absolutely incredible, and I tasted at least half the things on the menu. My favorite was the crustless quiche on a Dutch knuckle breakfast sandwich. Literally one of the best things I've ever tasted. Honorable mentions go to the salted caramel donut, Blackberry morning bun, bagel breakfast sandwich, and apple fritter. The chocolate donut and cruffin were also extremely excellent. Shout out to Brenna, the butter fairy and butter princess for the buttery perfection. The latte drinks here are also phenomenal. In addition to the quality of the food, I truly appreciated the attention to accessibility and inclusivity. I'm not lgbtq but it was nice to see the pride flag flying out in front of the store. What I am is disabled and I was so impressed how this tiny shop in an old house made their facilities so accessible to wheelchair users like me. It was incredibly affirming to see not just a ramp but a perfectly graded one that anyone could wheel on and a large perfectly laid out restroom. We chose to sit outside on the porch and there was a table that was perfect for me and my two travel companions. Tables inside are accessible too. As a testament to how much I love this spot, we had to drive by on our way out of town to get more things. I will definitely be back if I come to saranac Lake again and hope everyone goes to support this incredible business and the talented, kind people who work there.

The caramel donut was really amazing; perfect flavor, just wow. The apple cider donut was unfortunately a bit dry when we got it, but likely would have been great if we had gotten it when it was fresher. Really great spot, definitely recommended!

I've been…read morevisiting Lake Placid for years, but only discovered this bakery this year, mostly by following its patrons who were perambulating around the Main Street with what looked like amazing little scones. Speaking of said scones, they're fantastic. If you're expecting biscuit-line scones, these might be a bit of a disappointment. These are on the bread-ier side of the pastry spectrum, but no less satisfying. We tried the blueberry almond scone and the raspberry white chocolate, and both were scarfed down within minutes. I also love that these aren't sickly sweet. Paired with a latte (for which I highly, highly recommend getting a pump of the hazelnut syrup), Bluesberry Bakery was responsible for supplying some of the best breakfasts we had during our stay in Lake Placid. City folks ought to temper their expectations. This is a small town bakery on a quaint main street, and inside, space is tight. There isn't any seating space, and if two or more groups of customers come in simultaneously, the rest of the queue has to wait outside the door. But things behind the counter are manned by a small, dedicated crew of folks who keep things moving. As with any bakery that makes things fresh, come as soon as the urges hit; when they're out, they're out. I learned this the hard way when I came late afternoon for a scone and found they were sold out.

Late last year we were in town and stopped in the bakery and asked if they'd be willing to do something a little different than the typical wedding cake. We wanted mini-tiramisus for our guests and a big tiramisu for us. Rene was delighted by the request and welcomed the break from all the wedding cakes. She delivered the tiramisus and set-up a beautiful display of them on wood stumps and she brought in some gold heart decor and greenery. We misplaced our cake topper and messaged her the day ofand she improvised by using a heart stencil with the cocoa powder that came out so nice. Our guests were already raving about how amazing the dessert display was and they raved even more after they ate the dessert. Some people were like I don't normally like tiramisu but I love this. and it was SO good. We brought our whole tiramisu (and maybe a few minis as well) back to our hotel and ate it all throughout our wedding weekend. Rene was a pleasure to work with. We had several calls and emails with her. And she listened and really captured what we wanted. A few of our guests saw I listed this bakery as our dessert vendor on our website and they stopped in over our wedding weekend and said how sweet Rene was as well.

This was a great…read moreplace to pick up some cute holiday gifts (fancy dish towels, things for making craft cocktails at home, soaps, etc). They also make baked goods in the store. I loved that each item had the simple ingredients listed with it on the name-- this made it easy for needing to ask if you have food allergies, but also terrific to see that the treats are made with basic ingredients like you'd use at home! I tried a snickerdoodle whoopie pie with cream cheese icing inside. The cookies were perfect and the frosting was a bit on the super sweet side but that's how I like my frosting so it was delicious! My mom got a slice of pie- the flavor was pretty good but since it was kept in the fridge, the crust lost a bit of the crunch/flakiness. We bought a take and bake frozen raspberry pie for the next time we have guests over. Mom also got a brownie, which she said was very good as well. The wide selection of pre made salads and sandwiches looked great as well as the large selection of take and bake meals and side dishes. This is my favorite type of a local gem to discover. It's a perfect spot to stop on the way to or from Lake Placid. I actually visited twice in the same day! It's open Friday-Monday (as of when I visited in November'23). I think I'll actually head back to that area next weekend and stop back in to pick up a few gifts and some more baked goods! Update--- We also did end up going back to the shop the following weekend for some more shopping. Customer service could use some improvement. **As I said in my main review, we bought a frozen pie to take and bake. We baked it for Thanksgiving l there was no scent while it baked which was unusual. It wasn't the prettiest looking when it came out of the oven. More unfortunately, no one liked it! My mom said it was the worst she's ever tasted. The crust was so thick and the filling and crust both had a strange aftertaste. This was very disappointing because the treats we had in the store were delicious. If the review was based only on the pie, I'd be a 1/5 stars.

When we first saw the pseudo-chalet looking building, we were struck by the name "Sugar Shack," immediately thinking of the iconic places you can find in many upper New England states that process maple sap into syrup and also into other sugary yummies. But then we noticed that the name also indicated "Dessert Company" and realized maybe it wasn't just about maple syrup and sweets. So we peeked in the window, looked at the big chalk menu which listed sandwiches, and decided to have our last breakfast here before departing. The interior is as puzzling - in a sense - as our initial impression. Yes, there is a bright display case filled with some delectable and delightful-looking pastries, muffins, donuts, and cookies. But then, there is a slushy machine right inside the door (?), and shelves of souvenirs (maple syrup in a variety of bottles), boxes of pre-packaged, brand-name chocolates and other candy, and chips to accompany your lunch sandwich. A diverse and wide-ranging mix in my mind. Our sandwiches were made on a small griddle like you would find in anyone's home and wrapped in foil for us. (We chose to eat them at one of the two tiny seats - I think there may have been 4 seats - inside, by the window). The sandwiches were fine...but that's about as far as I can go. We saw a "For Sale" sign near the door indicating the business was up for grabs and from all appearances, the person running it now is doing everything in their power to make a go of it. But without creating a more unique and efficient, competitive business, the end may be in sight.

Also, the cappuccinos were from a machine you press and when we went to press the button only water went out. The lady behind the counter added a powder mix that was not cappuccino mix -- it was hot coco mix, not caffeinated espresso and hot steamed milk which is what a cappuccino should be made from! Also, the lady behind the counter was not very pleasant. We were there with three little kids so I felt taken advantage of since I didn't have time to check my receipt instantly. Also, wasn't offered a paper copy.
