Absolutely adorable shop with staple and unique food and personal care items. This was a great place to pick up some cute holiday gifts (fancy dish towels, things for making craft cocktails at home, soaps, etc). They also make baked goods in the store. I loved that each item had the simple ingredients listed with it on the name-- this made it easy for needing to ask if you have food allergies, but also terrific to see that the treats are made with basic ingredients like you'd use at home! I tried a snickerdoodle whoopie pie with cream cheese icing inside. The cookies were perfect and the frosting was a bit on the super sweet side but that's how I like my frosting so it was delicious! My mom got a slice of pie- the flavor was pretty good but since it was kept in the fridge, the crust lost a bit of the crunch/flakiness. We bought a take and bake frozen raspberry pie for the next time we have guests over. Mom also got a brownie, which she said was very good as well. The wide selection of pre made salads and sandwiches looked great as well as the large selection of take and bake meals and side dishes. This is my favorite type of a local gem to discover. It's a perfect spot to stop on the way to or from Lake Placid. I actually visited twice in the same day! It's open Friday-Monday (as of when I visited in November'23). I think I'll actually head back to that area next weekend and stop back in to pick up a few gifts and some more baked goods! Update--- We also did end up going back to the shop the following weekend for some more shopping. Customer service could use some improvement. **As I said in my main review, we bought a frozen pie to take and bake. We baked it for Thanksgiving l there was no scent while it baked which was unusual. It wasn't the prettiest looking when it came out of the oven. More unfortunately, no one liked it! My mom said it was the worst she's ever tasted. The crust was so thick and the filling and crust both had a strange aftertaste. Always reliable and delicious! Today I grabbed a Buddha salad loaded with veggies and ramen with a spicy peanut dressing. Fabulous! Best of all, I could race in and find the perfect lunch; I actually had a tough time choosing as the tempeh also looked delish. The only tough part is walking past the amazing desserts. I stopped at Cedar Run to pick up a cup of coffee before my ride home. Due to Covid-19 they were just doing counter service outside and the process was a bit confusing so you may need some patience. We picked up coffee, a sour cream coffee cake muffin and a mango croissant. The croissant and coffee were good but the muffin was outstanding, probably one of the best tasting ones I've had in a long time. I had an awful customer service experience at Cedar Run on Easter Sunday morning. Much to my surprise the bakery was open as I was passing through Keene. There is no doubt their baked goods are incredible and made with love. My terrible experience was with the woman behind the register who clearly didn't want to be there on Easter. it started when I had three baked goods in my hands and tried to place them on the counter (excuse me mam if I interrupted your personal conversation you were having when I placed the items down). I went around the store and picked up one more baked bread ( I now have three of one kind and one of another kind of bread) . I also had three jarred items I was planning on buying. I placed them all on the counter and was promptly greeted with " you can only buy three of these breads- we need to have enough for others who might want to buy some later ( really, holding back product for someone who MIGHT come in?... never experienced this before) ok- your rules , I understand . I asked since I have three of one kind and one of another, is that ok? The response I received was ... " Sir, don't argue you with me! " Wait.... What? I asked a question, that's all. To close this review let me say, I left all the items on the counter, wished her a Happy Easter and went on my way, empty handed with no Easter treats for the family. The amount I was going to spend is not relevant to the review. How you treat your customers, address them, make them feel unwanted, maybe say when I put down three baked items on the counter" there is a limit of three today..... This was one of those small, family-owned business that I walked into and wanted to buy one of everything locally made and sourced! It's clear that the owners have put a lot of time and energy into sourcing high-quality products, fresh ingredients, locally (and lovingly) made baked goods, and dozens of pre made frozen meals. We picked up some summer sauces for cooking and several of the pre made frozen meals -- a godsend for those, like us, hiking and staying in rentals with limited cooking supplies. My only regret is that we only popped into Cedar Run at the start of our time in Keene Valley...but just means we have more to look forward on return! read more

This place is a dream come true for hikers staying nearby in a cabin. I appreciate all the carefully selected goods they have stocked their shelves with- some local and some gourmet. They have amazing food and the best homemade muffins but the staff is very rude and aggressive. They make you grape a mason jar ring to enter the store that's basically 200 square feet to keep track of how many are in there at once. Really? I have been in there at least 5 times and every time they either stare at you while youre walking around like they are waiting for you to steal things. We asked to go in the wine shop once and we're basically yelled at because it was 10 mins too early on a Sunday. Stopped in for baked good for breakfast. So my review is only for them. Got a box of turnovers, muffins, and scones. Everything was fresh and delicious. Surprising to see a small specialty mark in the middle of a small town. Usually only see markets like this in the really wealthy towns of Long Island or westchester near me. In its current location, they do not offer sit down dining, but have many sandwiches to go, which can be eaten outside or at 1 of their tables inside. If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. The worst customer service experience I've ever had. The waitress was extremely rude when taking our order. When we asked for her name she said to talk to her manager and that she would send us off the same way she did. Utterly disgusting customer service for a place that served us stale bland sandwiches. I hate leaving bad reviews right now because I'm sensitive to the fact that all businesses are struggling but whoever owns this place needs to reevaluate who they have at their front door "greeting" their customers. When I say rude....I mean this may have been the rudest person I've ever met. I understand each establishment is allowed to implement their own Covid protocols but the lengths that they've gone through well, you may as well stayed closed. My friends and I were staying in a cabin near Upper Jay. This is the perfect grab and go place. We went back every day during our stay in the area and couldn't get enough ! "Must haves" are the spinach balls and the Kitchen sink cookie dough. Had a lot of cool natural skin care products and artisanal cooking items. Also a whole section of gluten free/vegan options which we loved. Another yelper mentioned the tip spot on the receipt. I cant help but agree that it feels a little unnecessary given that this place is entirely self service, similar to a local grocery store. Horrible customer service! From the moment we opened the door, we were made to feel unwelcome. My husband was holding an empty coffee cup. The clerk greeted us by letting us know that they don't accept outside trash.... We were then directed to go back outside and take a ring from the post and disinfect our hands. The rings were literally mason jar tops which clearly hadn't been cleaned and disinfected. When we came back inside, the clerk stopped us to provide a lecture about proper mask usage. Mind you, we were all wearing masks over our noses and chins. We were looking for a place to sit and enjoy a baked good. Since they aren't currently offering indoor seating, we purchased drinks to go and asked for a recommendation for indoor dining. The clerk told us that nothing was open due to the pandemic. Having grown up in the Adirondacks I knew this was untrue as we were a few minutes outside of Lake Placid where we found many restaurants and bars open, serving food and offering wonderful customer service. My husband and I stopped quickly here this morning to grab some coffee and a quick muffin as we were leaving from Ironman race. What a fabulous bakery/market! We found delicious fresh bakery, blueberry scone was so delicious as was the blueberry coffee cake, and I believe my husband had a strawberry turnover! Everything tastes absolutely delicious. Cedar Run is not your typical greasy spoon. Though if you're in this area for any length of time you'll see that Keene isn't your typical small town. While the townsfolk don't make a ton of money, the visitors to this part of the Adirondacks do. And they loudly talk on their cell phones while doing some sort of contorted dance to keep their one bar-signal. However, the sausage, egg, and cheese on a warm flaky croissant makes drowning out the loud track suited ruling class a little easier. Cedar Run is a cute place to get some coffee, pick up some grocery items that might otherwise be hard to find in this area (like gluten-free quinoa or rice pasta) or grab something to that and reheat for an easy tasty meal. They've got limited seating and parking. Their foods aren't labeled for common allergens and that would be nice, but I'm so used to reading ingredients for everything it's not a problem. The coffee is delicious, hot and plentiful and they'll bring you soy milk if you ask for it. We had some veggie sushi which was thoughtfully made but had been sitting in the cooler for long enough that the rice had become hard and unpalatable. We had some veggie spring rolls that were awesome - the ingredients were really creative and had a unique and welcome flare to them. Because the spring rolls were so good, I was really disappointed about the sushi but I realize that Keene isn't exactly a sushi kind of place. Fortunately this is a fixable problem. I hope they catch on so that their sushi rolls aren't the only thing that's vegan, gluten-free and amazing! I'd fall over myself to get gluten-free vegan bread! read more
